hmmm... it depends on the situation. in most cases a sword would be the weapon of choice, but say ur trying to take down a keep and ur defending, a bow comes in great handy there.

Hmm, maybe they should come up with a cross of the two, you know like a spork is to a spoon and fork.  A sword that shoots arrows!

Forget the sword and the bow, i like to chop things up with a whopping bid double headed axe.

Bow... distance gives you the first strike, plus with a sword.. you need to be in extreme close range to use of course, giving the opponent a chance to retaliate or react. With a bow.... *twang*, about 1/2 a second to turn around just in time to catch it in a few internal organs, leg or eyesocket. Besides if the enemy gets within close range, you always have a few arrows to poke badgers with.

    **SIP**

*you hear an arrow fly past

    Murt scores a CRIPPLING shot

    Lansid staggers, then falls

    *you hear Murt run away

    imagesee.....you have an advantage

    *EDIT

now lets see the sword version

Murt goes behind lansid and strikes him with a sword...

since he didnt have time to get a nice hit...it isnt critical

Lansid turns around and beats the hell out of Murt

    ....you see?

swords and bows have their advantages and disadvantages, both equally good and bad.  I think I would like the sword because of how versatile it is, if it's a broad sword it could be used as a shield, if its a smaller/lighter sword it could be used to cut foliage.  Bows also take more time, precision and accuracy to be any good with them.  Swords dont take a whole lot of skill to use but when you actually learn to use them then you're virtually unstoppable against another melee.

If I had my choice i'd use both... or a hybrid sword/bow.

A dagger in the dark is greater than one thousand swords and bows.

Go on, if you want it.
    Another world awaits you.

Ahhh... the memories of terrorizing in Shadowbane... *maniacal laugh*.

*wait for person to sit... impale, loot and run* Then run back to the town so you can ask them how their day's going and if you can join their party.

We don't talk about shadowbane on these boards

it dosen't deserve the title of MMORPG

    it should be stabbed

    stabbed to death

    then burned

Bow for open areas, and a sword for dungeons or tight quarters.

  • SerienSerien Member CommonPosts: 8,460

but for open you also need swords too,

because i mean those things can run fast as F*ck

Another thought is that a sword will never run out of arrows.

Frankly, I feel like this subject can be interpretted in many ways.  First and foremost, the sword does do the most damage.  Goes without saying.

Now if you're quick enough, and well-trained (as maybe a ranger perhaps), then the sword would suffice in deflecting any and all arrow attacks.  Moreover, due to your skill level, an accurate sword throw could be the death blow we all know and love.

So perhaps two swords would be the best case scenario here.

perhaps... I also think it is pertinent to say that it depends on which kind of sword you use... if you are using a broad sword you have the weight and if it is a samuri sword you have light and sharp...

Absolutely agree with you.  I think there should most likely be one of each.  The broad sword for the close contact brawls, and the samurai sword for arrow deflection and throwing.  You would be truly unbeatable.....MWAHAHA!

  • AtolycusAtolycus Member Posts: 13

Hmmm, both weapons require some skill, one accuracy and precision (bow), the other balance and strength (sword). I would probably use both just in case the going gets tough. A sword would be nice for a fair fight while also finishing enemies who refuse to die by an arrow. Swords, when used in conjunction with flint can be used to start fires. Bows can be used to hunt animals that would normally run away if you chased them with a sword, not to mention being used as a means of fishing.

    Swords -

Personally I prefer a A Great Sword (The real kind not the Diablo II kind) or a claymore than anything else. There's just such a cool feeling having a huge sword. Plus they weigh less than axes and the weight is evenly distributed.

    Bows -

Would have to be the fearsome Britain Longbow. It had more distance, speed, and overall better performance than any other bow of it's time.

Sword. A person with the right sword is alot more agile than a bow man, the bow man will need time to take aim at longer distance targets, and at the same time, the arrow will be inflight for awhile allowing the target to move out of its way.

With a sword. upclose and personal.  The way it should be.

Sword is best in MMORPGs if you are only after mobs,  you have high melee and can take on numerous hits.  However, in the realm of PvP, ranged will always dominate melee.  It always happens.  Think back to UO...didn't you hate it when a GM Archer would run away from you while shooting arrows and you would be scraggling behind him to get at least one hit to save your dignity?  Then there's AC...I dominated PvP with bow..my bow was almost 450 buffed and I could one hit a pc many times.  SWG, another running away shooting the sword following fools.  It may be cheap and unfair...but hey...that's what PvP is all about!

I don't know what weapons World War III will be fought with, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
