RPGamer Preview of DnL

It is quite negative about the state of the game - the preview was released sometime earlier this year. ::::33::

Inferno is still stomping his feet cause he got booted.

Getting fired from a VOLUNTEER postion? Oh yea thats gonna leave a mark. LOL

The preview you linked to doesn't tell anything new. It highlights the features that we know about, which I can guarantee you, won't keep you entertained for long -

    huge single world
    much freedom
    good landscape
    dynamic weather
    yadda yadda yadda

Those are nice features of the game engine, but those are not features that will keep you entertained and playing for long. There has been no mention of any sort of actual gameplay in your preview, which is symptomatic for the state DnL was in when the preview was written.

The one I linked to says why there is no mention of gameplay - because there is no gameplay to preview. I wanted to write a preview of DnL myself, but chose not to do it, since it would not do the game justice - that was in February.

Now, I could still not write a preview about the game, unless parroting the same the other previews say, would be sufficient. I'm thus curious how the game will look like in November. Because if it will have the (non-existant) content that it had in February, it'll be a grand failure.

That's not true. I'm glad that I'm gone from there. Working with AD was a pain in the ass - actually getting responses was a pain in the ass - working on a site for a game that I no longer believed in was a pain in the ass. It's over. Thank god.

are you seriously calling a game bad because it lacked content nine months before release?

Make of it what you will.

No. I'm saying that if it did not seriously improve since February, it'll be bad. We'll know for sure in November.

Blacksac your link doesnt actually disprove or even argue anything said in Infernos link its just another preview about how big the world is. I am personally concerned about many things mentioned in Infernos link like how many quests there are and how easy it is to meet with other players.

Im not trying to say this game will suck because atm im personally very hyped about it and waiting anxiously for the release BUT lets be realistic very ambitious game coming from completely new company, theres a huge risk of this being nothing but hot air.

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Of all the mmorpgs I have tried or played, DnL has a lack of information about it so close to release.  I am not taking this to be a bad thing, they could be concentrating on the game instead of hyping it up.

There is only one way to see for yourself if you will like the game or not, and that is to try it out.  There are many features I've heard about that, if included in release, will make me happy and likely keep me interested.

For me, and I am sure for many other roleplayers, the landscapes, dynamic weather, etc. ARE things that will keep us interested, because they are important things that add immersiveness to a mmorpg.  Roleplayers will thrive in DnL if there is a RP community that is there to enjoy what the game has to offer, even if the content is on the light side at first.

I agree that content is important and helps a lot to make a mmorpg last a long time, but a good community in a rich, immersive gameworld cannot be overlooked, or made less important to players like me.

I'll be playing in November, despite some of the negative things I've heard.  For each negative post, there are also positive ones, so it's going to be up to the players to decide once they try it, don't listen to a disgruntled ex-player . . . .

Sort of true Tymore. There is a definite shortage of verifiable 3rd party information. However there is plenty of press release hype from NPCube talking about all the things they are planning. Too bad the only way to find out id they are BS'ing or not is to either plunk down your money blindly in November or wait and see what the release reviews will be like. That is unless NPCube decides to try and maintain a NDA on the release also.

So far this game sounds like one of those late night info mercials we have here in the states. One which is stating that you can eat all the ice cream and cookies you want, never get off the couch to exercise and still lose weight and become a millionaire overnight in the process as long as you buy their weight loss plan.

But just like Suzzane Somers and her thighmasters there will be plenty of people who want to believe that it will work or is a good game so I am just goiung to sit back and see how it turns out. If the game gets positive reviews I will get it for myself for Christmas.

    I miss DAoC

Like Inferno said, thats the exact same thing weve heard over and over and over again in every single other DnL preview. Graphics are nice... weather is cool... transportation is unique... where's the gameplay!?. I dont care about that stuff anymore, ive heard it enough times already! WE GET IT! AD WHERE IS THE GAMEPLAY? We have yet to see ANY game footage of how combat works (other than that terrible video they released at E3 trying to tell some poor saps adventure story), how sieges works, homes and cities being built by players... nothing. If there is, and I dont believe there is, a preview out there or something other than what was released in a dev chat please share because I havent seen jack on it.

You wont see any "gameplay" that has hasn't already been shown, until release. This an't the STD release, you will just have to wait until the open stress test, or the release, which isn't far now.

I feel they are building the surprise, as well as keeping info away from the competion... anyway apart from those 9 month old reviews, you won't get jack, and you know me if I had something, I'll post it instead of acting all helpless, and angry. image

    Not long to wait! image

PS: A 2yr old movie that has combat, so I would say combat has moved on since then, even if we dont get to see it now (Devs surprise)   http://www.darkandlight.net/videos/E3_Trailer_lowdef.avi image

Personally I dont like RPGamer.com and they are talking about there being animation problems and such in BETA almost 9 months ago. From what ive heard animation is alot better which seems to be his main point of concern. As far as only seeing 2 people thats also because its BETA! I mean come on! Not many people enjoy playing beta even when they get the account because its full of bugs and not much content. Not to mention characters get erased to.

They dont have many people in beta and the few that are dont play that often. When its released there will be people from 5 different languages all playing on one server. There will be guilds, friends, etc all playing. You wont have a problem finding people to group. There proably will be alot of open space but thats a good thing. In games like WoW when I explore I feel depressed that im not gonna find anything new or unseen to alot of people because its all been done. In DnL you could find places not many people have seen.

I also heard the recent stress test went well.

The few people that are in beta don't play often - duh. Guess why that may be the case - because there is nothing to test and play with! The exploration aspect of the game is highly overrated. It is *boring* running around for half an hour without seeing anything new, no monster, no player, etc. Trust me, it is by far not as much fun as you imagine it to be.

They also said they have a fully functional game not implemented into the beta test. I would bet that it would take a few servers to fill the entire world of DnL with monsters so they don't waste their money by doing it for beta.

When did betas become fun? Was it before or after you became bitter?

Arent you still a tester? You seem to be breaking NDA. When people meet you for the first time, I hope you are decent enough to let them know that you have no integrity and your word means nothing.

Where I come from, a man is only as good as his word (even on the internet). Of course, I am assuming you have a pair.

inferno that preview sucks so much lol,

"in the end this BETA lacks everything am mmorpg needs" or smt like that uh its a beta ...thats why all races aint avaible ... thats why he meets so few people ofc -_-,, i wonder why they let stupid "i wanna be a review guy" into the game -_-

and ya if you read the the QandA's you'll notice they withhold alot of info for it to be a surprise :| and let us explore i mean damn you could buy a book with wow when it came out telling you where to lvl and where to get items no need to explore no need to anything -_-. and wow sux :P

0h ya and uh ... you clearly didnt bother looking for movies with fighting look at the e3 movies, he lands with dragons attacks a bear and the dragon helps him killing it (it dies tho lol) ^^ and ffs SKY DIVING from a dragon ... how can a game that lets you skidive from a dragon not be cool ...

yeah it does seem that inferno is breaking the NDA - in a way, though i dont know what they are allowing and what they arent. not that he can answer or not but i would want to ask inferno, did you even explore? did you even really play the beta enough to try and look for people? did you do anything but be a little cry baby? i thought you were to review every aspect of a game, in which case, you show the good and the bad, obviously you are showing more bad then anything (though we all know you arent really a 'critic' any more for any site ::::18:: ) seems to me that you have nothing to do at all since you got kicked out of stratics ( even though from what you said you are happy you did ) you have done nothing but be a troll to DnL, why? because it led to your 'kicking out' of stratics. Now be a good big boy and find a real job so you can stop bothering people who trust the dev's and the game.

How do you know this, where is your proof and if you had any would be a breach on the NDA.
