Warrior / White Mage combo bad?

Eric42Eric42 Member Posts: 3

So I've been reading up on what most out there consider to be the good job classes and what not, and before I even started that I decided that I would be a Warrior/White Mage. But as I've read, I learned that a lot of people don't like a Warrior/White Mage? What's with that? Having yet to play the game (TWO MORE DAYS! ARGH!), I don't know what kind of bonus' or minus' that the game may have on this combo. Can someone help explain this to me?

And yes, I do plan to become a Paladin. I have this strange obession to always be a Paladin in whatever game I am playing if it has the Paladin class. Like in Diablo II, I can only play as the Paladin. Weird, yes.

Warrior/white mages have pathetic MP, only half of the white mage spells, and they are pretty useless in parties.

I've heard that they're ok for consideration for soloing, and could probably help with minor downtime with parties... but as a Warrior your main priority is provoker and meatshield. You shouldn't be casting spells in combat... so party-wise it's not optimal, but it's not useless either.

Play whatever you want and make yourself happy in the end.

This is the best I could find anywhere on an opinion about a main/sub combo sheet

    Hope this helps everyone.

The Gamefaqs forums suck. Go to FFXIOnline:

Something very worthy of mention is the fact that the writer of that FAQ is getting his info all from forums, not from gameplay experience.

Well, Eric42, I suggest Only using White Mage for your Mains skill untill it hits level 30.  Im sure by then you will find some other powerful people strong enough to do the paladin quest.  Then you can do your SubJob quest, and youll most likely start out as a level 1 paladin/level 1 white mage.  BUT just keep leveing your Paladin and your white mage will go back up.

I am a War/WM, will I get at least low-level Cure spells that I can use to heal myself on the fly? That's really the only reason I wanted the combo in the first place, until I get Paladin.

It's "not bad" for solo play from what I heard... but for group play it's not optimal, since you will have a white mage that's healing better than you can with the low warrior casting stats. Perhaps you might want to look into "Red Mage" class?
