Why hasn't SOE made a server which just contains the orignal everquest with kunark? Why the hell not im sure alot of people would like to go to it who miss the "old school EQ". I think it would be a profit on their part and somthing that alot of people would enjoy.

As long as they keep the graphic upgrade......
I found the game much more involving back when there was no POP. It was more challenging and people would band together more often to go on adventures. We needed each other back then. The only way to travel around was the spires and it required a wizard or a druid I believe. If you didnt have access to one of these then you had to brave the dangers of each zone in order to reach your destination on foot.
It was truly the height of RPG back in the early EQ days. I would be willing to sink a few dollars into seeing it again.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
I totally agree with you! maybe even add velious... I bet you 50 bucks that the majority of players who joined after luclin have NO idea what kunark even is(well to be honest they probably knwo what it is but I'll be damned if any of them have explored more than half its zone content).

Yeah, seriously I miss the old eq so much velious was great too but basically after the luclin expansion was when I left and alot of my friends did too. I've tried making a return but its just not the same i love the old content so much more and since SOE is now considerd money obsessed ect i think it would be a smart move just to make ONE dedicated server to classic EQ hell they could probably bring back alot of past players.
I would consider coming back if there was a classic server with only original EQ. I'd consider Kunark and Velious too. My favorite time of all was classic pre-Kunark EQ. Kunark had a funny feel to it like the woods for instance. Instead of having the illusion of a grand forest with impossibly huge trees like Faydark they had you running through the branches and leaves of head-level trees.
Velious I found very interesting although mainly high level.
I too left with Luclin. I didn't like where the game was headed with that expansion. I didn't even like the graphical updates. I preferred the old character models.
Sony bought the game at that point. Raiding became the focal point, and my friends and I all left at the same time about 3 months after PoP came out and all the stupid flagging B.S.. DAOC has classic servers why not EQ?
A game with Velious at the end would be awesome!
never know if you ask often enough they might decide to do it. heres hoping

I think I'll make my funk the P-Funk
Yeah, im starting to miss the old EQ. I remember my first character, a little half elf paladin. Just running around killing the orcs in The commonlands, getting groups in the oasis, fun memories
Prolly for the same reason they didn't make a non-raiding server.
It would possibly get to popular and show them they are wrong about some expensions choices they made.
There is a point in time where it will be to late, no such particuliar server would draw the desired attention and they are missing the boat.
Classic and non-raiding servers should have gone live in 2002 if not before. I doubt we will see them in 2006 and it will soon be irrelevant (maybe it is already irrelevant, most players ain't half as dedicated or patient as I am) if we ever see them or never see them.

You doesn't understand. It would be pointless from the start since peoples beside would be more Uber and would be using advantages that you can't. Exactly the same logic as to why raiding can't give the best grouping rewards, I am sorry if folks can't understand what I am saying, but I never change my message.
If other achieve the same reward with easier mean, they completely shadow what you did, so you either do what they do or stop althogether.
I would not play on a Classic server myself, but on a non-raiding server with every expension enabled except the raiding content who is completely deleted, I would be buying it right away (I would be spamming those boards to have the raid loot inside harder and more hardcore grouping dungeons however, I know myself )! But I understand the motivation of the folks who want to play on a Classic server. Newer expensions remove all the interest because they give better and easier to achieve rewards (exactly like raiding remove all grouping interest). A level cap system could have work, but it would have needed much working and side AAs/gear cap...wouldn't be Classic per say, but it could have work as well.
A classic server could have a name resolving around Old Scool or that concept. A non-raiding server could have a named resolving either around skill or worthyness (which groupers consider raiders arent). Anyway, like I said, I don't believe we will ever see those and honestly, it might be to late by now...when those ideas where first proposed (2002 or earlier) they would have gotten a very positive answer, now, I dunno...me I would still answer the non-raiding call for old EQ, but I honestly doesn't know, it is getting late and folks have seen WoW, GW' CoH and now DDO coming soon. Like I said, me I would answer the call for a non-raiding server, but the majority of players? In 2003 they would have, but now? DAoC capitalizes on this idea many times already.

I would resubscribe faster than you can say "Ambassador D'Vinn" if they made a classic server. It would be cool with only original EQ but Kunark and Velious are ok too. Heck, those were the prime days of MMORPG:s
Very well put, we would definitly need a classic server to truly experience the feelings we all once felt who miss the old content. What baffles me is WHY SOE does not make atleast 1 classic server just to try it out. All they care about is money right? So why not bring back one classic server see how it does for a few weeks and then decide to keep it. This could increase their profits VERY MUCH because it brings back old players like myself and others. If they did this I know lots of people who would make a return each person is 15 dollars or whatever they charge now a month.. can't beilve they wont do this since they are so money obsessed.
Me having played EQ for 4 years, (started just before Luclin) actually thought his idea of an old school guild was a good idea, and would even buy eq again cause I don't have it on my new computer and some of my old eq discs are scratched up. I would have to start allover because I deleted all my characters before I got rid of my old computer. Allthough I'd hope we would include Velious after getting epics from Kunark, then for those who even wanted to continue can make another guild to move onto Luclin.
Why has Sony not made a classic server? Because non-gamers in Sony's HQ are making game design decisions, in my opinion. Ever since Lucin and POP, the game world has been ruined. Yes, you can port around at your convenience, but travel and wilderness treks are meaningless when they used to be fun adventures. Basic towns are empty because everyone uses the POK to route between adventuring areas. What is the world of EQ now? Planes?
Now I agree with you that a "classic" server would be a major coup for Sony, financially, and I base this upon DAOC's introduction of classic servers. Their top classic server is x2 the population sometimes of the next couple servers down the list. Classic servers are popular.
Folks want more than just a game; they want a game world. EQ was that game world before 2001. Been ruined for almost 5 years now by Sony. What a stupid company Sony is in regard to game design.

The idea is nice. However let's face it...Your guild will start with many folks who believe like you. Eventually someone will "Just group with those strangers in the expensions lands and nobody will notice"...
"Classic" outside a "server with the rules to enforce it" is very hard to see happening...some folks can, but they are a minority, folks needs rule to be enforced. Exactly for the same reasons I doesn't group on a raiding server or play there, it is pointless if you want to progress and feel achievement...raiding ruins all grouping achievement for me. So for a classic oriented guild, raiding into the new expension ruins all the classic raiding...I think Afterlife would agree with me on this and...when I agree with Afterlife...it is a very sorry day!

It really would be great to have a this but I doubt they would add it, the reason? No new income no exspasions to sell you every few months. Maybe 1 day if the numbers drop low enough they might do this fingerscrossed anyway, cos if they did id be back in a heartbeat
In the mean time here's hoping Vanguard will give me that old EQ1 feeling back.
Considering I am not subscribing for 30 months X $15 = $450 they could have get. I am not a good reason alone to do something...but saying no new income is a blunt unconsidered remark. And many of my friends would prolly still be playing with me...
Of course me, I would need a pro-grouping LDoNish like server and I would welcome all the expensions they bring in, as long as raiding is not there in any form (well raid loot would be welcome in a LDoN system). So, that would be all the expensions in my case...but let's the little devs sleep in their raiding dreams, it secure them. A guy with a vision will rouse them up and kick raiding outside of grouping. That is just a matter of time before it happen in some game, too bad for them if they miss the train.
Vanguard is doing all the old mistakes, at best they would meet a similar success than EQ did...I doesn't see Vanguard doing better than EQ (which would be a 1 million subscribers post-WoW to even be considered equal).

I used to favour the idea of old school servers too. My favourite expansion still is Velious. I still love the Shawl quests, hanging around in Thurga exploring WW and occasionally i drop into ToV, which is sadly abondend nowadays. Some of you may even remember the run to Plane of Mischief right thru ToV. Those where the days.
However, the days long gone where not better days if one takes of shades of nostalgia. People where fighting over the drops, big guilds where doing raids, small guilds would have few chances on nameds. Same like today.
Besides, I do not need a old school server. I simply go to the old zones. Sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. Believe it or not, they are still there. I do not feel the need to compete with the people who have the newest top gear , 1001 AA and such. I still enjoy the old school game. I also enjoy the newer zones sometimes. Depends on my mood. Thats why they call it a game i suppose-
An old school server would be popular for a couple of weeks, maybe months. Then the farmers and big guilds would own the markedt on Thurga armour and such. Do not kid yourself thinking the profitmakers, scammers, killstealers and griefers would not frequent the server of your dream.
The grass was not greener in the old days. It had only a slightly different colour.
EQ classic server would be godly. I love Kunark/Velious. Anything after that sucks.
