This was the worst customer service I ever encountered.. I took a break of about a year and decided I really wanted to play this game again. However due to them deleting not only your characters but your entire account the only way to play again is to buy a new copy of the game and re-register. In other words even if you don't want to play anymore you have to keep sending them your money every month or keep forking out for a new copy of the game. Suffice to say I didn;t re-purchase and will never be lpaying this game again.

What the hell happens if you lose your job temoprarily and can't afford to keep paying for a few months?

This is the worst policy I have ever seen.  I knew that FFXI was a hardcore mmorpg when I played a while ago, but this takes it to a whole new level.  "Pay for it, even when you cannot log in, or lose it".

I think if you haven't been in-active for over a year, you can still use your software to create/purchase a new Content I.D.  After a year if inactivity, your PlayOnline I.D will be deleted and you have to buy the software again.  Not one single mmorpg does this, except FFXI.  It is odd, and it seems very wrong to me, for obvious reasons, one of them already mentioned above.

What if you are a soldier that must go overseas to serve?  Well, sorry, but you can forget about your account when you come home and get ready to buy another copy of FFXI if you'd like to play again.  It is retarded.

The Xbox 360 version is currently going on, which I have been having a lot of fun with.  I wanted to play again on my PC but of course I could not because I haven't had a subscription in over a year, so my account was deleted.  Fine.  I will surely not buy another copy of the software for my PC, but if I continue to have fun with the Xbox version I would consider getting that.  I've spoken with TSRs about using my Xbox 360 PlayOnline account with my old PC software, and they say it can be done.  So that is one way around the problem, but still not without having to purchase the game from them.

This policy is the worst I have seen in mmorpgs.  I can deal with character information being deleted, but this is total crap, and is only meant for them to make an extra buck, taking advantage of those players who may not be the loyal, steady subscribers.

FFXI is a great mmorpg, but beware of this aweful policy.

Wait a sec cause there is something I do not understand. You mean to say that once ur account is deleted u cannot use ur previous CD Keys? Cause up until I knew that if ur account gets deleted u can re-create it with ur old CD key.

  • TymoraTymora Member UncommonPosts: 1,295

You can re-activate your account within a year.  After one year without a subscription, your CD keys will be deleted, along with your PlayOnline keys.  Your software will be worthless unless you can somehow get more keys.

Your character information is only held for 3 months.  After 3 months, you can still play again using your old CD Keys, but you'll have to start over with a new character (purchase a new content I.D.)

ok, thanks for all replys, ok so i could still play with my cd key, but restarting a char just seems so annoying image . Btw ive heard that you can email them and ask for your character back (or maybe that was about the cd key) anyway , heard anything about that? or is it just a dream image...

I spoke to a TSR the other day and asked for both my keys and character info.  It was a long shot, and I didn't get either.  The TSR just said that my account had been deleted.

I used the internet chat under Service and Support on the main FFXI website twice and it worked out well.  I don't like their policy, but I was satisfied with the service.

Anyway, I am already grinding to a halt in the 360 beta of FFXI.  Nobody seems to understand what "grouping" is all about yet.  Boy are they going to be in for a shock in a few more levels.

Indeed...if the whole thing u r saying about the CD Keys is true then it is tragic. Basically they r saying what u purchased is not actually urs but theirs. ::::37:: Oh well,I'm not the kind of person to take breaks anyway. If I leave the game then I'm leaving for good. Don't c that happening anytime soon though. I'm enjoying it very much!

First of all it isn't guaranteed after 3 months. Simply get your content ID info together and you may be able to get your characters back. Every time I have contacted customer service with ALL of my registration info I have recieved quick responses. If you are under 18 don't expect them to talk to you, cope with this. You can't legal register for the game in their eyes under 18 and they will not answer your questions your consenting adult will have to (my lil cousin had this issue himself at the age of 16 using a credit card in his name, they still needed an 18+ year old to confirm all issues).

Beyond that return if you want to, if not then don't. But please use real words in your complaints. Or read the legal information first.

If u did not delete ur Playonline Account u are fine, when i returned my account was still there i just had to reactivate it.

Yeah I had to cancell my account before I deployed. I really enjoy FFXI and probably will buy the game and account again. I think it is a unfair rule, at least you shouldn't have to buy the game again.
