Just ordered GW.. should I have waited for Factions

Perdition_ukPerdition_uk Member Posts: 181

Tried the DDO beta (big pile of Sh1te!) and got so bored of WoW if I had to do another MC run I'll scream, so I looked around for something else and thought I'd give Guild Wars a go. Is this a bit daft with Factions only round the corner (I assume they are completely separate games), or has the original Guild Wars got some life in it yet?

Some advice please guys ;o)

Guild Wars Faction will probably first be released in 2-3 months, so if you want to start playing now there is nothing wrong with getting Guild Wars.

The two chapters are seperate games, but they can be combined (if you add your acces key for one chapter to an account for the other chapter). With the two chapters combined, you can move from one chapter to the other with the same characters, and you can combine skills from one chapter to the other. PvP will also (at least partly) be against people who own either first chapter, second chapter, or both chapters.

In other words, chapter one (Guild Wars) is not going to die out any time soon. Sure, many people will focus more on the new content when that comes out, but people will probably also want to take the new characters (Assassin and Ritualist) into the first chapter.

Edit: Just wanted to add that the second chapter (Factions) probably will be better, since they have alot of experience from the first chapter, and they have had alot of feedback. Personally I would recommend buying chapter one now, and chapter two when it gets out though (but then again I really like this game). On a more serious note, I would recommend buying chapter one now if you want to play now, if you don't mind waiting for a couple of months, I would recommend waiting for chapter two. If you do decide to wait, you can always try to get into the preview beta event march 24th to get a taste of the game.

Sounds good... I think I'll play through the first one for a few months then move on to factions then (give them time to iron out the bugs).

    Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, Get chapter 1, It has a good story and very challenging end game that will prepare you for PvP battle which are fun. Factions is designed for PvP and if you are not ready, it may became not as fun trying to learn which skills to use. :) Unless of course you want to be an Assasin or Ritualist.

I believe it would be a good decision to get the orginal right now. It will not get outdated as they devs mentioned that they would continue to ad content to that one even with the release of expansions. Plus by having both, you will have access to all of the elite skills from the original that those who just buy Factions wont have.

Have fun and remember it is not like WoW or CoH, it is its own style and it is trying to direct you to the PvP side of the game. Find a good guild and have some fun.

I Agree with you all the first chapter has a class story and if you link the second chapter in it will proberbly link on and then you can get new skills and armour for ur old guy so it will be pretty cool to get ur guy new stuff or of course you could play the new classes

Im definatly getin the new one as i really enjoy the first image

So far arena net has handled dealing with bugs that need to be ironed out very quickly a fast and no game breaking ones have made it to live IMO. If you worried about massive lag or servers crashing I don't think that has happened ever...

Try the factions preview... I believe the game will be running quite well for that.

Just remeber the worst that can happen is you waiste 50 dollers. No fee and such. The game is nice and real easy to play once you figure out the skill system which can be daunting considering there are so many and you can only have a few at a time.

Faction is an expansion, I am not sure if you can play it without the origional. Besides you'll want to try all of the original classes from the first game.

Just wanted to clear this up factions is NOT an expansion it is a stand alone game.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I do recommend that you buy the first chapter though just because it is fun.

Is Guild Wars Factions an expansion pack or a stand-alone game?

Guild Wars Factions is a stand-alone product. Those who own Guild Wars are not required to purchase Guild Wars Factions in order to continue playing on their game account, and those who purchase Guild Wars Factions may play without purchasing Guild Wars. However, there is a strong level of interconnection between the two games that makes having them both an exceptional experience.

Really if I was you I would get a few of your guildies from WoW to come across and join you, what have they got to loose best thing about GuildWars is that its condusive to a great team fun, not fun if you dont have anyone you know playing with you, team Speak/ventrilo is hilarious and makes it a good laugh, and the best thing is you get to play the first chapter and when you finish that in about six weeks you get to have the new game coming out straight away, our problem is we played it beta and finished the game by july and only had PvP left ot just to do the game again with another spec character, and I tell you this must be the prettiest MMO there is bah non, I think it would be a shame to not play the first one. I am currently playing WoW and it passes the time TBH untill I get to play GW again, I hate this huge wait between chapters I was expecting them to release a new one every 4 - 6 months

NO.. u shouldnt have waited.. u did the right thing by buying it before factions!

by doing this u will have time to learne the game as well as get good at it before factions comes out!

i myself have pretty much nuthing to do on guild wars other then pvp because i got everything possible in pve and i havnt got a really good guild to pvp with so i dont play as much as i did before.. guild wars is an ownage game dont get me wrong!

EDIT: you will also get to enjoy the game before factions comes out.. beleive me it takes 3-4 months to actually get good at every concept at the game like me :)
