Smed just posted this on the official forums about the producer's letters...
Hello Everyone,
I've been reading the threads about the producer's letters.. and it's obvious you're looking for a lot more detailed information. So we're going to give it to you. The format of this will be an update of what we plan to do for the next 6 months at a high level.. on a publish by publish basis. There will be a lot less information about the stuff that's further out and more details the closer we get to today. This will be a living document that we need to keep updated. You can reasonably expect this to change over time.. and you can expect that this won't contain every single thing we're working on... only the big ticket stuff. You can also expect that we're going to very, very agressively attack the bug database in each and every publish and hotfix.
It's important that if we're going to lay out this kind of a plan, that you be as understanding as possible when things change. Sometimes we may push something from one publish to another for logistics or resource reasons... but overall we're going to give you a lot more info about what we're working towards so you can understand it and comment on it. Doing something like this can be dangerous - if we put Entertainers in one patch and Creature Handling into another.. one group or the other will likely be upset... so all we ask is that you understand that we're working very hard towards making the game better.
You can expect this publish plan by the end of the week.
Thanks
Smed
I can't stop laughing @ SOE.

I like the part where he mentions CH...but somehow I wonder how CH will be implemented. Secondary skill available for all classes to tame mounts? Or what it used to be? I might not return, but at least my main would not be absolete like she is now.

Yeah, funny how they dangle the CH carrot to players...this is yet another PR stunt. I can't see how a business could possibly function with how they handle their customers.
You'll notice his post was at 11:50 pm, I am assuming PST.
Here's the way I see it:
They were watching to see how bad the producer's letters would be received. Yes there was an uproar on the boards, but they were more interested in cancellations. Probably around 11pm (when primetime usually ends) they had their answer. Larry and Curly (Julio and Grant) were probably already in bed, or deathly afraid career-wise to make a follow-up post to stop the bleeding. Moe was brought in.

I respect that someone over there had the balls to say we will get you what we promised. He saw this wasn't what was promised to the community saw the responses and addressed it (maybe)
He may also take this oppurtunity to straighten out torres and rogue 5 and ask where they get off dropping such crap on a battered community.
Last few posts from Smed have been informative. Such as the UI changes going in. The no more right click special nonsense. Now he comes out and does TH's job on this issue.
Seems the only one that is doing anything over there like what the community wants is smed which is funny. President SOE doing community management.
I would highly doubt that the two Producer's Letters were written without Smedley's instructions and authorization. Most probably, they thought they'd get away with it, then saw the reaction and changed their minds.

If you call stringing customers along for that last bit of cash "doing his job" then yeah, he's doing a bang-up job. This reaks of Smed's previous posts where alot of things were said and yet nothing was done.
If Smed wanted to come down on Rogue_5 or anyone else, he would have done it by now. Those letters were engineered, hell even TH said their lawyers were checking them. You can't tell me that Smed didn't have a looksie too before they went out.
The letters were posted, he saw the negative reaction, then posted his own "We are really, really going to get this done THIS time" just to keep people re-upping those subs.
More pointless talk.
SWG devs are the most hated devs in the industry....here would be the smart move....if they can't post anything concrete, they need to just shut up....their damage control is horrific.
Ever seen a baby pull its own hair and scream.....and it keeps screaming as its pulling its hair because it doesn't realize its hurting itself?
SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
It's just staggering when you realize that this game, despite being 2+ years old, has reverted back to what could best be described as beta...
...and people are still giving them money.
How any player can think that this bunch of morons are going to FIX anything, or make SWG a good game again is SO beyond me.
It is like claiming the world is flat. Not 400 years ago, TODAY.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

.... anybody care to speculate if his plan will be generic or contain some detail?
No, I think they'll be quite specific, they'll just make sure to stress that they're not restricted to that plan.
However, I'm willing to bet that Creature Handlers will be promised for a quite distant publish, in order to keep subscribers that hope to play a CH again for the longest time possible.

I'll reserve my respect for someone who deserves it. People who wait until the shit hits the fan before they wake up and respond do not deserve respect, they are not heroes, they are not really even TRYING.
I'm reminded of the EQ "summits" they had a few years back. People were pissed at SOE and Smedley decided that it would be a great idea to invite community leaders to San Diego for a free hotel, free food and a free baseball game. The supposed idea was to gather concerns from the community and work towards that. Smed got exactly what he was hoping for. Most of these "leaders" ran back to the community screaming about how much SOE "cares". One even posted about a tear in Smed's eye when he explained to the crowd that all the wanted to do was make the best darn goshest game in the world. Time has told the truth behind the blubbering. If you can give Smed anything, give him credit for being able to play his customers as some of the biggest suckers in consumer history. PT Barnum would give this guy the center ring.
Unfortunately, karmas a bitch, and you can only be deceptive for so long before no one believes you. I believe Smed has reached the saturation point.
Look for more "We are really here to listen, we want to listen, we will listen" speeches in the future. Also next time you fart, turn around real fast and try and catch it, you'll feel more substance.
P.S. For those that probably will eventually say that SOE is in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Please remember that's a direct result of finally having to pay the piper for years of some of the most craptastic customer service known to man. No pity and definitely not a shred of respect.
Wow, I really need some coffee. Hello wrong side of the bed
Way they're handling stuff atm I'm half expecting CH pets to become loot drops at teh Meatlump King's cave.
Whatever Smed says, don't get your hopes up. They have to be feeling some serious heat by now.

the producers letters and this smed letter are just to string the people along who haven't cancelled yet. It's totally unbelievable how gullable people are. On my former galaxy boards today I read threads where individuals were "crying" about this and saying, if they don't have this plan in place like they said I'm gonna be mad and say bad words...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh....instead of saying goodbye and cancelling like anyone with a brain already has...sorry for the slam on people still playing but don't they realize the only way to win is to cancel???? then quit playing?? geez get your swg friend phone numbers and email, and im and talk to them out of game omg its a difficult concept I'm sure but come on...
I'm surprised nobody else picked up on the 6months bit. The producer letters basically tell us there's only going to be 1 or 2 publishes in a 6 month span now. They've already talked about what's going to be in the next 3 patches. So basically he's promising LESS information and to organize it in one place it can always be found. No surprise that he's begging for patience and understanding from the community and promising bug fixes. Just like they did last January when they brought in more devs to stop the losses to WoW. Last spring after the CU. Last fall after the NGE. I find politicians and used car salesmen more believable.
The other thing that really struck me as a new low about this letter following the other 2. It's pretty pathetic when you have to do damage control for your damage control
You are so pathetically deluded. Or just a tool.
Actually I did, I guess I just wasn't suprised at all by it. I see he is throwing words like Creature Handler out now again trying to stir interest.
So has object collision dissapeared in the cracks yet or have they given a solid yes and publish number its going to be included in? I recall them saying it would take 6 months to add it to the game. I am not sure how they plan on doing all that work on object collision and all this other hard work that is going to take them months between publishes now at the same time.
