The thing about MMO's that just blow my mind are that most are geared towards Combat/PVP. SOE has over the last year completly changed 2 of their games and geared them more towards PVP and IMO failed at it to an extent.
What we need are the programers and developers to get together and produce a game that you only need pay one time to enjoy it. DiabloII was the best example of the ideals of the gameing concept, but alas fell through with the rest of the gaming industry with WOW and a 14.99 a month fee. Over the last 15 years, bandwidth providers are charging less amd less for major bandwidth required to run most of the games, and hosting fees have dropped due to massive ammounts of competition, but they all still suck the monthly 14.99 out of all of us to line the coorp pockets.
After the devs and programmers finish a product that they are working on for a Company, it is company "intelectual property" due to signing a contract at the time of employment of conceptual development. For the life of me i cannot seem to grasp why any person with the ability to write and create such works of art as MMO's would subject themselves to making money for someone else and not themselves. IMHO what the gameing industry needs is a "REVOLUTION" of players and developers alike and make things enjoyable for everyone, not just the select few.
Gaming companies have sprung up over the years and we consumers have kept them all on the stock market while keeping our hopes up that something will come along we can enjoy day in and day out. A pleasurable game to some might be a kiddie fest to others, but a variety of diffrent games and scenerios available to the market has always made it the most competitive market. Companies really just dont care from what i have seen over the years about what we gamers want in a game, and they use market analyst to find "target" groups and use those for marketing ploys and gimmics to get the attention of gamers everywhere around the world.
Most MMO's have some sort of battle or pvp involved because in general people like competition. When SWG came out the ideals of a Game that was skill based was phenominal, and the concept i dont think was ever tried, not that i can remember any other game structured this way. Along with thousands of bugs and problems involved in PVP combat, SOE/LA took it upon themselves to try the traditional concept of a lvel based system because of the success rate of all other mmo's on the market, or that is at least how it seems. CopyCat tactics, lack individual originality, thus looses an image of being unique, and fall into the catagory of being like every other game on the market, and face it , there are a ton to choose from.
If the game developers or people that could possibly produce a game, that was Skill based, with moderate PVP, and competitive gameplay, they would surely at least in my book get the vote from me. PVP in gameing is ok, and wanted by thousands, but Balancing the Professions or Classes is the hardest thing to do from what i have seen and read. There never seems to be a balance in any game and one person is always complaining that someone else has an unfair advantage, wether it be a skill or talent. I guess it is to be human to be competitive.
In close if any gamers that really enjoy the massive ammounts of change and a open-ended game that leaves room for additions and development read this, and can produce such a game or develop it, my hats off to you. The community must band together and work for something we enjoy, work together and make the MMO, the game of the century and enjoy it when it happens. Most of all remember guys dont be greedy, because that will just put you with the others on the market, SOE, LA, Blizzard, and so on and so forth.

This would mean a massive, free and dedicated workforce of willing people of which most have good ideas.
