Middle Earth Online: Time Based Advancement

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

Vivendi has recently posted something on their MEO site detailing their "time based advancement" system.  Here is what it said:

One of the many ways to advance in Middle-Earth Online is the unique Time Based Advancement feature, which lets you make the most of the time you can't be in the game. Continue to advance your character's stats even when you're signed off!

Advancement Features:

  • Character stats advance in real time, whether you are playing or not.
  • When one stat is finished training, just log in and select the next stat you want to improve.
  • Not being able to log in and play a considerable amount of time every day won't mean that you're left hopelessly behind your more active friends.
  • Reduces repetitive game-play, or grinding, associated with increasing stats.
  • Players who log in after a long absence will benefit from a small advancement bonus.

I don't think it's such a bad deal.  But then again, maybe that's only because it would complement my gaming style...  I can log in every day, but I won't necessarily be able to play for a long time every day.  In fact, I get most of my gaming done on the weekends...  So I'm going to give it a thumbs up.  I'd like to know exactly how this would be exploited though.  If I knew the "many different ways" this could be exploited, I might actually change my opinion.  That's my 2cp for now...

I'm not sure if I'm for this or against it.  Ya, it kind of helps if you were offline for awhile.  But doesn't this penalize the people who do play a lot?  They aren't getting as much of this "bonus" advancement.  Kind of cool I guess if you were on vacation or something :)

Yah, this whole time-based system is a good system, EVE Online is the first MMO that I know of that's used it, and theirs works good. It eliminated the some of the Griefing related to Powerlevelers, people that play more often will still have more money cause of the time they devote, while yes, players that don't play much, can still advance good. EVE Online does this the same way, you have to purchase new skills, but once you've bought it, then you tell it to Train, and it can take anywhere from 30minutes at lower levels, to week at higher levels :) So I'm in for this idea, if they can build on what EVE has started, I think it'll work great!
