Nice to see one group of dev paying attention to the MMO community, and finally giving us want we want, and making things convenient, and fun, rather than trying to impose asinine constraints at every turn.

If they can follow through, they have a winner on their hands.

Yeah, I hope they don't put a limit on how much you can store too.

Realistically, there has to be a limit. It would be impossible (or highly impractical) to give everyone limitless storage capacity.

You know, I truthfully dont think that a spawn implemented in this game would be good at all, it would be to xploitable and would create instabilities, but hey, I'm just commenting. I do think that is a good thing though, the solo patch.
I have a question though, will banks be implemented in this game? And as well if they are can you share some of your bank slots with your other characters on your account? Kind of like EQ's bank system.

No there is no spawn and I like it that way. if you want a new respawn just zone out and back and as for traveling to the mob even the solo area has alot of added TP points for the map. If you didn't know this you might not have spent much time in the solo area. I had a ton of TP points I was able to go almost right to the exact area I wanted. What was even cooler was that the guards started following with me and helping it was like my own private group exept I got all the loot. I can see me soloing alot its very cool.

I am not sure about a bank system they had a chest in diablo so they might do a bank thing but don't count on a shared bank slot. If they do that it would be in an expantion just like EQ's was. But I have not read anything about a bank yet.

Crowen, it seems you didn't read the post 4 above yours about storage.

Ya I did but that post is about guild storage not about personal storage. He posted that they were doing storage but if you read the link provided its about guild house storage not personal.

Also in the link they did not state that it would make it for release and they even hinted that guild housing would be in an expantion.

Right now we are all guessing I am just guessing that they will have personal storage at all. But its a good guess since the game is being made by the same guys that wrote Diablo and that had personal storage. Like I said just making an educated guess.

What I mean is, they state quite clearly that storage will be easy and there will not be a need to mule.

You will obviously have a storage in town with extra space. This much is obvious.

I would think so too but I have never seen an offical post to confirm this. Are you posting that there will be for sure? Did you have a link to this fact? I would love to read it thought I saw all official posts on Dev chat might have missed something.

They state that there will be guild houses hope this also means that there will be personal housing as well.

    Crowen,
We've been told that there will definately be some form of account storage system, so you can xfer items between your characters easily and without hassle nor risk.

No idea with personal houseing however.

  • TiberiuxTiberiux Member Posts: 90

There are no plans for personal housing yet.

I read this for sure somewhere but not sure where.

But definately don't expect to see personal houses in the release version or any time thereafter.

  • CrowenCrowen Member Posts: 128

Well I thought GW was great before this info now its even better. Even WoW will not have ingame support to item transfer at release.

Because we all know how uncool it is for combat oriented games to include an element of difficulty or risk when it comes to hoarding wealth.

Your a happy chap now aren't you?

Its just another factor of this game to appeal towards the more casual gamers. Granted, your hardcore gamers will find a way around just about anything - given enough time, but its ussually those same restrictions that they bypass that has the most effect on the casual gamer. By making it easier for the casual gamer to do things, you can appeal to a wider audience. By not having a monthly fee, GW needs to appeal to a wide range of players with a similary diverse gaming needs.

Besides, when you really look at it, the game isn't really based around your equipment. Granted, there is *some* difference but it really isn't that noticable.

  • KartelKartel Member Posts: 241

Ah, calling us "@#$%ing Carebears"; truely the hallmark of a worthwhile post.

Well call us what you want, and I'll call you a masochist. Personally, I don't like investing countless hours/days/weeks/ect in a character only to have him wrecked by death. I don't like being set back hours or days worth of exp for dying. You call if fun if you want, I'll call it a day ruined.

And losing my hard-earned items? In many games, that would be a permanently ruined character (unless someone can hook you up and get you back in business). Granted, items aren't as vital here as in other games, but many of them will still be just as hard-earned.

Real life already sucks enough most of the time; I don't need to have my game experience ruined too.

So go ahead and all me a carebear. At least I'm not a masochist. If you like that crap, then you're on the wrong board here. Lineage 2 sounds like more your cup of tea. Hell, you can lose whole levels there. Have fun! ::::28::

  • TiberiuxTiberiux Member Posts: 90

Personally, I think GW is the MMOG with the fairest death penalty I have experienced.

Exp loss is a no-no for any game. Especially since levelling is always frustrating at high levels to begin with.

I'm sorry that your real life sucks most of the time, sounds like you need a good gameimage.  Also I realize I came across as unnecessarily callous earlier, my apologies.

Try http://games.yahoo.com/ it sounds more to your tastes

And yeah SonofRah I agree, Arenanet's actions seem to support your opinion.  The part about trying to expand their playerbase, not my being a generally unhappy person. image

WoW might be funner to play but I do have to admit. I'm scared the screen shots and no monthly fee make this game look amazing.
    MMORPG's are going to change.

Here we go again with the whole graphics thing....GRAPHICS DON'T MAKE THE GAME ALONE!!!!!!

and i don't think people would really have to pick between these 2 games if people like both and are smart...PLAY BOTH!!!!if GW has no monthly fee then why the hell wouldn't you play both???

I'm going to do both. I love WarCraft and Guild Wars is free. Why choose?

    When in doubt, play dead.

Uhmm because some of us refuse to pay monthly fees out of principle? Hence why the vast majority of gamers who are into rpg's will buy GW and not WOW.

    The showdown will be interesting.

How many new MMORPG players will WOW attract? And how many current MMORPGers will it steal?

How many non-MMORPGers who love RPG games will buy GW?

  • TasidarTasidar Member Posts: 19
Because Blizzard has tons of Warcraft fans, a MMORPG of Warcraft will captivate a good number of those them, plus everyone who trys the game out of curiosity. Guild Wars also looks cool but is an untraditional MMORPG. People don't always like change. WoW seems to be more the classic MMO style. There is nothing wrong with either, but I believe with it being a Warcraft game, and being more of a classic style, it has a better chance than you think.

I've never said that WOW won't be a successful game.

To the contrary, I know for a fact WOW will be very successful.

The only doubt is how successful will GW be.

WOW has a huge loyal fanbase that will purchase the game. The question is how many other current MMORPG players will it steal from other games such as EQ2 and SWG?

GW is a completely different story. The game will be great - yes. But how good will their marketing be?

Many great games have had horrible exposure and have had to be redeemed by "part 2" years later.

GW will attract a great variety of players (if done right) who do not pay monthly fees. How many of these will the be able to get?

Also, how many existing MMORPG addicts will also buy Guild Wars to try it out? That is another question which will be interesting to see answered.

The no monthly fee thing really makes MMORPGers who are used to paying ALOT of money for a game think that it might be a great idea to buy it anyway since there are no fees to play just to test it out.

If anything else, the simple question alone of how successful will GW be will make it a very interesting game to follow closely.

And they have just announced that they are making large areas for teams as well like the solo areas due to the feedback we've given them. Again, appealing to the MMORPG types.
