[Stress Test] First Day Tests - ReadMe! Welcome! First I would like to thank everyone for today's test. Although there were issues which ultimately shut the servers down for the general public be aware that your services were not in vain! Yes, while many experienced problems with updating, logging in and keeping connections I must state that unfortunately in these types of tests what we consider a success is more than likely considered a failure by some. This is not the case. As described earlier there was a `progressive` startup to the test that would only allow a particular number of connections to both the update server and the game server itself. While initial frustrations where high we soon realized that the server's were showing good vitals and thus more connections were added. At the time the tests for today were finished we had raised the connections to the servers from 40 to 120 on the update servers and from initiall 100 to 1000 on the game servers. There were plans to continue updating the total amounts from there forward until the full playerbase was able to connect. Once these initial values were raised vitals of the servers started to become a bit mixed. While the game server appeared stable the update server was being bombarded by massive connection attempts from various IP ranges. These ranges were identified and were temporarily banned as they were consuming much of the available bandwidth and concurrent connections to the update server. This helped many resolve their initial update issues and proceed ingame. As we were in the process of relaying information around our conference calls (which by the way is no easy task in and of itself) we got word the game servers were starting to show signs of the new ASSERT bug mentioned in the news articles. As many who were online or trying at this time know, the server did have a few hiccups and disconnect most roughly in 10 minute waves. These waves did not stop in vain of the developers and to everyones happyness the data collected showed a clear indication of what/where this problem stemmed from so the decision was to forgoe any additional frustrations to the communities and fix the problem immediately. At this time the issues are being looked into and the developers are working hard to eliminate this issue so future tests will enable us to get the majority of the player base ingame and experiencing the new client! We however note that these tests are still under the NDA which is displayed on each opening screen prior to loading and must be enforced. We do understand there is a short time until release and you wish to share information but understand this is a legal issue not a game issue. We just ask that those refrain from posting specific info publicly at this time. Also, one last mention that forum rules are still in effect. While we understand the frustrations of some we will not tolerate the attacks of many by flaming others either by direct or indirect means. Personal attacks are not allowable and if they continue we will temporarily ban user accounts to both forums and game. We are working hard to bring you what we hope is your expectations of the game and your continued patience is very much appriciated. Thank you all again and if anyone has questions that have might not been asked in prior threads please do so but lets keep this as clean and tidy as possible -- all spam, flame posts will be moderated or removed. --Xelphneigh [Edit] Please see the below reference threads for official news and status of the update servers: Test Status: http://www.darkandlight.net/forums/...ead.php?t=59091 Updater: http://www.darkandlight.net/forums/...ead.php?t=59145 |

I got temp ban too.
I runed in loop update.bat till I got connection. After I updated my client I wanted to give updated files to my friends and publish it to everyone.
The rsync for update they use is great solution if you make good infrastructre, they had only 120 simultaneous connection that is far low for 1595 downloaded clients ( source: http://bt.darkandlight.net:6969/ ) + some more shared betwen friend on FTPs or DVDs.
Ok back to my ban story to get exact file list I changed rsync line to:
rsync.exe -rtv --existing --progress --stats rsync://dnlst.darkandlight.net/dnlst/ ./
Now I could see exactly which files are updated and download speed.
By default all you saw is: "Starting the DnL Stress test version upgrade"... and "End of download" after 10-15 minutes .
So I re-installed fresh client and run loop again that would try to connect to update server every 2sec ( I did it after few minutes and patched my client again and got list of files. I made update package and put it on ftp, torrents etc... and gave list to other guys who did the same )
Later on I found out that couse of all those reconects my IP was temp baned and I agree its best solution to prevent flooding ( I have dynamic IP so I changed it ).
As for: More likely they were just banning paying customers again.
Probably yes couse dont see the reason why people without access ( paying customer only ) would even run patcher.

"Yes, while many experienced problems with updating, logging in and keeping connections"
this is what you want to hear one week before launch. what a joke. I don't think theres any other areas that could of experienced problems.
sad part is the game won't EVER be made to run good because the code is just flawed.
I miss DAoC
I miss DAoC

My Sager 5760 Review
I like that.."Paying DnL Beta Tester Elite" ...does the back of the card grant me exclusive priviledge of wearing lollipop land sunglasses, being spanked on a regular basis, high end enrollment cost, high end monthly dues and harrassing ppl who say anything bad, dont believe us when we tell them its the greatest game, have the full authority to plaster WAIT AND SEE on everything in sight and most importantly, insult, bash and herangue, psychoanalyze any who may expose it for what it is???????/ If it does , then WOOOT! Where do i sign???
ahhh man!!!!! I wont fit the first requirements!!! I need a low comprehension level and an uber $4000 puter that I can then reconfigure, delete, move and totally corrupt in order to even play the game!!! Ah shoot......yet another moan.
I would be amazed if 2,000 downlaoded. I am sure that number is inflated for people downloading it multiple times for 2nd computers, or failures. 1595 downloads probably means something more in the number of 500 individual downloads. They are drawing from a pool of a little over 30,000 SoG users which all but a few hundred have given up on the game. At this point I am guessing all buit a handful of the downlaoders are just morbid curioisty seekers not anyone who has any intention of playing the game. I know 3-4 people who just attempted to download it just to laugh at how bad it is. Unfortuntaley none of them was able to successfully dl the client.
Deservingly, this game will never break 1,000 subscribers after release.
whats' going on with the server right now?
Is it supposed to be up? What have been the "official" statements? They're gonna reboot it or wait until tomorrow again?
I haven't seen anything

The Stress Tests continues.
Our goal is to test the servers' behavior, in saturation terms.
Today's tests were conducted to observe the server's behavior with players and all 45000 mobs, distributed across the world, ingame, on 4 of our machines.
The following is an explanation of the bugs that were discovered during the test:
-" CELLAPP_OVERLOAD" : This error shows "cell" saturation (cells are game zones bound to players' geographic localization). Indeed, only a small fraction of cells are active, as only a couple of our servers are currently running the game (only 4 out of the 80 servers installed in Amsterdam) in order to cause the desired amount of stress on the servers. Thus, this problem will be solved when the rest of the servers are running.
- A few of you still received a "No Such User" message while connecting. This is related to the player Database and happens mostly to beta testers, pioneers and griffons that haven't played Settlers of Ganareth. This should be solved shortly after the next patch.
- "Can't find character home" message is received by players whose account is valid but is still being loaded. "Home" is related to personal information created when the server is opened. Some of you may still receive this message for several minutes after a patch, due to the high frequency of patching recently. This problem is usually solved after a few minutes. Again we thank you for your patience.
- Recent ground bug (passing through the world) should be solved now - we're still testing in order to make sure it has been permanently fixed.
- Mobs are disseminated across the whole map due to stress test needs. There will be a lot more accessible and numerous mob spawns at launch.
We want to thank you, once again, for your help in making these tests a success.
Best Regards
NP3 Team.
But...wait. If they're simulating the "desired amount of stress" on the servers, then when that level of stress hits the system when all 80 servers are up and running (which will theoretically happen once they open the game world to the public), than this is a FAILED test, and this issue WILL repeat once D&L reaches a certain number of players.
exactly. A useless lame excuse. Another , 'we meant it to happen that way". Guess they didnt really expect many IT pros to question it.
Interesting how we have 4 servers out of 80 when the game is supposed to run on "one server"
If you have been around this game as long as I have then you remember the orignial press releases showing a blade server type machine that had no way to support 80 "server blades". In fact it was a 1998 technology Xenon populated box.
Oh well have come to expect as much from Farceland/NP whenever they talk about Deceit and Lie.
latest update on the server is
there is no update!
you're on your own!
and there wont be until at least May 30th, then it will be some glorified announcement and it will crash, and the boards will light up with "HELP!" requests and ppl will be shocked to find out they need to purchase top end hardware first, after paying them top end for the game, then come back and reconfigure your puter to play just this game and screw it up for all the other games you play even though you could play all those other games without touching a damn thing in your setup. Then you reload it and crash and wait for the next fanfriggintastic patch that will end up screwing up all the settings you so painstakingly took hours to figure out and have to do it all again. When you think you have it ready, you log in and the servers are down and theres a new, bigger, better BUG! Wait for the next patch to fix it , but you dont know when thats gonna be cuz they only said soon or on release day so until then, deal with it and dont tell us or anybody else for that matter about all this , cuz we have an NDA in effect.
btw - didnt you see the tiny little notice we put on the HUGE MAY 30TH advertisedment that cant play anyway until JUNE 5th????? Not our fault.
You must be kidding ?
Eve Online is running on "one server" when actualy they have cluster of 120 servers.
Another example is Linenage 2 server wich contains several clusters for NPC, Items, Players etc...
Hmm till now I did not think you are such ....

Dubblepost.
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
