CoH/COV balance issues

TerridolTerridol Member Posts: 123

I've played COH and COV and I want to know, why oh why does the villains get the easy missions. it seems that all of the contacts they get and missions from those cotnacts are in sthe same zone. Also those mission seem to be esier then the hero mission wich forces you to run around zones 4 lvl  above you and get killed contatly trring to get to the contact or mission.

WTF!!!!!!!!

COH has a bug below 20th level. This bug has been documented by myself and others. The devs have not been willing to acknowledge it. The bug is this:

The 1-20 missions do not respect your "difficulty" setting. On a "heroic" (lowest) setting, most of the enemies are suppsoed to be your level in a mission (white cons). There is a chance that some +1s or -1s may spawn, but the chance is small, and it should happen in far less than 50% of the cases. Those of us who have tested this have found upwards of 65% of our missions conning yellow (+1). This corresponds to the 3rd difficulty setting's proper behavior, "Rugged." For whatever reason, the pre-20 missions are spawning as if you were set on difficulty = rugged, even though you are set (in all likelihood) on "heroic."

This does not happen after level 20 in COH, and it doesn't happen at all in COV. And that is why COH seems "harder" on level 1-20 than COV. Because it is -- the spawning algorithm is broken.

Why the devs refuse to look into this and fix it is anybody's guess...

Didn't know about that, intersting.  The other biggies is NO BLOODY HOLLOWS in CoV.  That is the worst pit of hell lowbie zone ever put into a game.  Although if it's any consolation word on the main boards is that they seriously borked the difficulty of the new leveel 40+ missions that appeared in issue 7 for CoV.  Tons of villians running around with max debt, a new zone that's almost impossible to corss if you don't fly.  Oh yeah, go devs . . .

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

You have to remember that CoV was made after CoH. It's a better game because the developers had a first run with CoH. CoV doesn't have zones it does need, there's few cross zone contacts, less 'kill all' mishes, and the missions are in zone with enemies you can handle. This all because of player feedback from CoH. Unfortunately it's hard to go back and fix these in an already established game like CoH.

Me, I always liked sneaking past tuff enemies. It feels more like a gang war if you can't just slay anything that moves and once you out-level the zone you feel like you are now feared and respeced, you've accomplished something.

Beggin your pardon, but I do not see why the dev can't just go into the mission table and reset the system. i mean if the games thinks i'm working on hard mission then just lower the difficulty of all missions.

    you don't understand statesman's "vision"...

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Is it really worth playing this game then? Should I just stick with DAoC and WoW?

At least until they fix the problems with the Hero missions.

I don't think it will be worth picking up again until the paid expansion in 2007.  You will definitely not level like WoW.  I5/ED took care of that.  I8 looks interesting but Issue 7, for me personally, continued the trend of lackluster issues starting with I4.  Not to mention there is no guarantee it will be out sooner than the 7 months it took for I7 even though they said it would not take that long.

Actually, what it is, is that CoH is very limited in where it can send missions. All doors in a zone are "the same" which is why you get weird things like trotting to the ends of the hollows at 5th level.

CoV is built a bit more intelligently, in that they have specified doors a bit better (and there's no such thing as a hazard zone either. HZ's are a mistake that I'm sure they'd like to remove, IMO.)

Just remember, CoV has learned from 1.5 years of CoH implementation.

The early villain missions are actually quite boring and repetative.  Everyone is in the same zone, doing the same missions.  They added that 2nd villain starter contact to try and fix that isse.  I never have that problem with heroes as I am going to many places and fighting many types of baddies.

Yes, a lot of the running around is tedious until you hit 14.  At this stage of the game (least on my server) there are usually friendly heroes ready to offer ports across zones.  I sometimes park my warshade in hollows by the Atlas zone and perform taxi service for about 15-20mins.  I feel their pain in having to sprint from the southeast corner.

WoW has the easiest leveling curve of all the MMOG's I've played.  I had four 60's and a few mid 50's when I finally quit.   I get more satisfaction playing City of Heroes/Villains now than I did playing WoW.

Plus the Hollows isn't that bad, I rather enjoy the Frostfire mission and the Cavern trials.
