The graphics can look something similar to that with everything turned on to max and then resized a little,but graphics is my last concern.
Let me login and see if i can show you what i mean.
The graphics are ok but ohh man everything else suck.
I bet all those other games screenshotted has more content than DnL currently has.
That's where DnL is failing big time.
Crappy content,missing content,bad performance and a whole lot of bugs.

Unfortunately this makes D&L look even worse.
As the producers from Raven, the studio making Quake III (dont have the link handy) have said as a caveat to budding game art folks on Gamasutra:
Graphics don't make a game. It has to be fun.
Which is where Dark and Light fail. That is why it is ranked low. No amount of paid fanboism can accomplish that
Well that's selective telling. First lets go with an actual, unPhotoshopped picture.

Can't give specifics on what's actually works in those other games, but I can give (highlight the table):
Should be noted that CL comes with CD, Manual, and Two months free. Hey, if DnL takes one of those pricing schemes I will be more then happy to rate it higher than them.

Black you have a gazillion page thread with the photoshoped , over the top graphics and it did not do the game a damn bit of good. The game has no content, is buggy as hell, and the whole concept is one that sounded good on paper but in execution is flawed. Top that by it being run by a coampny whose ethics makes SOE look like a benevolent association. heck, even the CS is the absolute worst in the industry. AD try's but NP3 just is terrible.
Add in the fact that but if you do not have a box that can run EQII at the absolute highest setting and get a solid 60+ FPS you will never see the quality of screens you post and even those will be choppy and running at 20 FPS. Sorry but the gameplay is not good enough to warrent spending 4000 USD for a dragon flight emulator with no content, bugs and horrible customer service. I'll take lost cities of vampires over that.

I'd rather play the real thing.
Must be nice to own a game where everything lags on the map on a highend machine.

Yes, we know you're trying to prove a point...that the game CAN'T be as bad as people say.
But a much better way for you to prove your point would be to ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME!!!!!!!
The people badmouthing the game the most are the ones who've actually played it, but apparently you, with absolutely ZERO real exposure to it, seem to know so much more about DnL than them.
I just find it amusing how you consistantly attempt to defend a game you've never played against people who've actually played it. And then you turn around and whine because nobody respects your opinion....
^ I'll play it when I'm good and ready. First impressions are important, hard to get over that hurdle, and I don't want to end up a hater, still waiting on launch bugs to be cleared, and if it's ok I'll play, not before.
I'm really amazed by peoples strong bias towards this game (I'm bias as well). It's so strong that people loose all sense of balance i.e. the ratings are a good example

And that's exactly what I'm talking about. Your attitude can be summed up as "I don't need to actually play the game to know that the people who actually HAVE played it and badmouthed it are merely biased hatebois."
Did ya ever think that maybe, just MAYBE, the game really is that bad? Of course not....based on your never having actually played the game, you know better than that....
And that's why people heckle and attack your posts. The "biased" rating of someone who's actually experienced the game carries infinately more credibility than the "unbiased" rating of someone who's never even actually SEEN the game outside of screenshots and movies.
So basically, you need to do one of two things:
1. Stop defending the game, or
2. Never, EVER whine again about how all the attacks and heckling on your posts "amounts to censorship". Your opinion has absolutely no weight, since you (by your own admission) aren't even willing to try the game because, as you put it, "first impressions are important"...which is a tacit admission that even you believe that the game sucks right now anyway.

I'm not a complete noob to the game though, I have played "versions" of it , and I am well read as to it's issue's
I freely admit I'm bias infavour of the game, but I do realize at it's current state, it's not the game it should be.
If I defend the game, it's really out of reflex to the obvious "hate" which is not my favourate emotion.
I will try and tone it down a bit, and let things be until I'm in game.
I do appreciate that many "haters" have played (not all of course), and in some way deep down I do appreciate their position.

Great, fun, immersive, & yes complex games have been arround for 20+ years without the graphics we see today. As has been said, graphics don't make the game, they are icing. The most beautiful Icing covering a turd still results in turd cake.

So please do us all a favor and buy or borrow a D&L Account so you can experience it all for yourself personally.

seems that this game is starting to get noticed there. It's a big site
with a lot of MMORPG fans registered. I think we can thank blacksac for
the sudden rise in interest. He/she has been throwing out a load of
detailed game info there. Stuff we all ready know but the MMORPG
community as a whole doesn't.

Hi Magpie! I was very surpised to see my name here. I just wanted to get some debate happening on Dark and Light in mmorpg.com.
They have ignored it, dispite it having a strong following. I feel its
too good a game to let it just slide, so I kept posting about the games
features in an open debate style on their boards, and it did get quite
a bit of attention.

it doesnt matter. even if the first picture is genuine it still doesnt look like anything special. AC2 like 4 years ago looked as good as that or even better.
and your movie shows what a nice hang gliding sim it is. it isnt a real game. The design of this game was completely flawed from the ground up as soon as they decided to make "the biggest , emptiest world" ever created".

Yes, the games you show may be outdated ( and most of them are old, to say the least ), but none, and when i say none, I mean NONE was released in such a poor state.
DnL deserves a bad note. Not by comparison with other bad games or dated games. No, just because it is a bad game itself.
