The game was at an 8.1, now it is down to 7.5 because two people went threw and voted one on every option, how is that legit and why is it allowed? Can someone please look into that?

I'm sure that there have been plenty of folks that have given Eve Online, World of Warcraft, and Guild Wars a 1 rating. Also, those games have 3000+ votes. Wurm has 38 at the time of this post. If people like Wurm, it will go back up the chart. I gave the game a much higher rating than 1. But it is certainly not the best MMO on the market right now.
That said, I think everyone should give the game a shot. The only reason I'm not playing it anymore is because my friends cannot get past the lack of quality graphics and the lagginess of the game. I really think that's a shame, and I hope that the development team will put some effort into improving those aspects of the game in the future.

It's hard to say whether they actually played the game but if my rating was high enough i'd give it some fairly low scores on the fact that the support for this game has been horribly atrocious since it's gone gold. No offence to the developers but there ways of dealing with bugs etc. has been very very poor. I've paid for premium and they are still treating the game like it's a beta product.
Very unfortunate since the game does have it's finer points but when you log in and find out the game mechanics get overhauled every second day or major bugs affecting people who have paid for the game are not reimbursed is very poor customer support.
Current example would be the homestead/deed bug where your building disapear and you will not be reimbursed for them. It hasn't affected me yet since i haven't put up a homestead yet but those that it did effect i feel sorry for since the Devs are too lazy to go through the server logs to fix the problem and return peoples homestead/deeds to there former glory is very poor indeed. it's takes days of time to build a building to begin with and then to have it wiped from a bug and told that no we aren't giving it back is discusting.
My 2 cents aworth. if you want to play this game i'd suggest using the trial accounts only until the Devs and GMs get there acts together and start acting a little more business like and professional about the whole thing and quit treating it as a hobby if they are going to charge for it.
Originally posted by HunterAP Wow... I just got done checking their forums. That's some bad business over there
Reading Wurms own forums will make you look like this in no time.
The arguments and complaints flow like water there. Sadly Mojang Specifications is a fancy title for two guys hacking out the game during thier free time and funding it straight from thier pockets. The recent switch to Gold was because thier pockets ran dry. When they switched from the beta map to the gold map the only changes descernable were many skills got harder. Otherwise it was the same buggy half developed game it always was.
But I advise people to try the game. Depending upon your own tollerance for tedium you might enjoy it. It does have some very novel ideas that I would gladly see, a or some, professional company steal. Sadly one of the ideas is so limited it defeats itself after making 20-40 of them. Houses. "Oh to be able to build my own place, where I want to build it." was always a thought over the years and years I have played games. Here you can. You can cut down the trees. Dig dirt, flatten and haul it and terraform the land to your own vision. You can cut sprouts from trees/bushes and plant them pretty much where you want them. There are rock walls, tall brick walls or fences or pallisade walls you can surround your property with. But your actual house is done by a grid. Limited by the amount of carpentry skill you have. But if you put up a basic house you can not add onto it. You must destroy all previous work and start fresh. No matter what the size or shape you make them they are just one big open room. There is no internal decorations you can make other than a few tables and chairs that are WAY off scale to the rest of the game. Then you can plan on spending too much of your "fun time" repairing your work.
Landscaping and house building were the only things that kept me in game all this time. Working on crafting skills, say, Weapon Smithing, is a long drawn out tedius repitition of right clicking, selecting the command and watching your events window for the results. Watching a mediocre gain in the skill and having more failures than Fun and Enjoyable can exist. Basicly a text game at this point. But not nearly as enjoyable as a text game as the descriptions are bland and boring and for people who were raised English and have a good education, filled with many mistakes in grammer and spelling.
Borrowed from a post on another website
I know Notch and Rolf have a desire for much realism in this game and have implemented many wonderful facets such as the terraforming and many aspects to each skill. Their problem lies in the human factor. I know they want this game to make money to pay for itself and continue their efforts, but have they lost perspective about how the game is affecting each of us? Do they even consider how much stress we players are going through to do simple tasks anymore?

Interesting figure. Since roughly 1 month after your post there are only 21 Votes. Two of them were posted after your post! So what happened to the others????

It's now up to 46 votes, and the rating has dropped to 6.8. I'm really not suprised. The game is far from finished. IMHO, they were not even close to being ready to go gold.
Also, I completely agree with what you had to say about the economy. It seems to me that they're trying to both charge a monthly service fee, and charge extra money in order to maintain your deeds. That stinks. Pick one or the other folks.
New rule of thumb. Do not play Eve Online then while gate hopping play you favorite MUD game and during all that browse forums.
I been around here enough years to know to look at the litlenumber under your vote for totals. Yet I was looking at total posts. I guess all that reading of the Wurm forums sniveling drivel from mindless infants has damages my IQ. Thanks for the wake-up.
The true measure of Wurm will come after 08/013/06 when they see how many renew.
Should MMOGs ever be finished? Most MMOGs just add content but never change the gameplay in a very serious way. As for going Gold, they just had to. It was either that or close down the game for public testing. To us players the latter was not an option. Wurm should've probably have been longer in "beta" (in my opinion MMOGs never leave the beta phase). And I agree that Wurm has become increasingly difficult to play, especially for new players. Perhaps the Devs should play their own game as a totally new player and try to survive. Here is hoping that Wurm will become easier to play in the future.

That's where you're wrong. There were other options. Asking for donations was one possible alternative. Asking people to pay for in-game gold was another.
And every PAY TO PLAY mmog before Wurm at least had basic features such as character animation and character customization.
I'm guessing you mean in-game silver. Donating has always been an option and still is. I believe that the only viable options were the two; behind closed doors or go "gold". Because, really, how many would donate? And how much if they did? I know I probably wouldn't have bothered.
There was character animation in Wurm at one point, for one reason or another it was dropped. Probably because of new client using new things that made previous animated characters not possible. And like I said before, to me, character animations are just eye-candy. Wurm already has some animations; doors and gates that open when you approach them, birds flying around, butterflies, grass that moves because of wind and trees that move because of wind. Oh, and the water moves as well so I guess that counts as an animation I was under the impression that character customization (facial and physical appearances) would not be implemented - and I'm fine with that.
The things you mentioned are not "animated models." The water, butterflies, and birds are sprites, the swinging doors, trees, and grass are simply moving the model on an axis. There were no animated characters in the previous two engine releases. (beta) Also, the development staff has never properly answered the question, "does the engine lack support for animations, or do you not have the modelling talent to make animated characters?"
Also, I used to develop muds and BBS doors. Both were text driven games. If anyone can appreciate that you don't need graphics to have a good game, I can. When developing text games, you use elaborate descriptions to help the user with the immersion factor. But Wurm is a 3D gameworld. The whole idea behind playing a modern 3D game is IMMERSION. When you see players sliding around the gameworld, that kinda screws up the immersion factor. When the in-game sounds sound like they were recorded on a 1960's tape recorder, that kinda screws up the immersion factor.
The fact is, it's 2006. There are tools out there to make developing 3D games, "easy." There are plenty of independent developers making some incredible games. Look at Mount & Blade. That started off as a husband and wife team and it is an awesome example of what can be accomplished by a small team.
Granted, M&B is not a MMO, but it's graphics and sound are LIGHT YEARS ahead of Wurm. Same kind of development team, FAR MORE polished product. That is what I expect when people start asking for money. (and yes, I am a proud owner of Mount & Blade)
Lastly, I would gladly have given Mojang money to help them continue to run their servers. I can almost guarantee that if they had asked for donations instead of charging people to access the "full" unfinished game, my guild would have spent a considerable amount of money to help. Granted, you can still play for free... But the free game isn't really worth playing. Especially since you can lose all of your "work," due to a bug that should have been caught in testing.
Animations are a very small part of getting "into a game". What is needed is content. And not just content for contents sake but sensible content that flows with the story line. And I hate to say it but reading the WIKI and getting the sketchy backstory (A Writer is needed on the team) I have never been able to make the two Gel.
I have been playing MUDs for many many years and still have an active character running in Dragon Realms. Like HunterAP said " When developing text games, you use elaborate descriptions to help the user with the immersion factor." Even adding a much better descriptive text with a good handful of variables to each action would raise the enjoyment factor of Wurm 1000% Couple that with some animations and quadruple that. If skill gain was set 40% lower and fails were reduced by 90% with everyone on the same page that way it would add enjoyment and replace tedium. And I am all for a slow skill gain. Then to add sounds that have ambiance and are not intrusive and have a mish mash of decible levels. Background music? Not for me I always turn it off or lower it if the option is available.
I'd say 99% of the games on the market now are what I call "3 month" games. Lets go way back to Asherons Call. I came out of beta into Gold and played a while. Had a major disaaster and lost my puter. Took a few too many months to afford to replace it with a better model. Got back in and got ahold of my group. Decided to do a remake. Went Unarmed. After doing the 1st 5 levels myself in an hour I met up with the gang and was power leveled to 20 in 18 minutes!! In the next couple of months I was up into the 80's. Got Bored with it and quit.

Hehe. I never said background music. Background music is the first thing to go when I install a new game. It toally breaks immersion. What I was referring to is "social" music. Music played by the players in a tavern. That's the kind of stuff that REALLY creates immersion in a game.
"At night, after the fields were sown and the work was done, we went down to the local tavern to listen to the stories and song of an adventurous wandering bard."
That's the kind of thing that's REALLY missing from games these days. Star Wars Galaxies had it to an extent, but Galaxies has since been destroyed by SoE and LucasArts.
Wurm has boatloads of potential. I continue to hope that potential is realized.
Wurm had potential, but it is just lacking. Have to agree with Hunter on this one, feels like the game isn't finished, and not in the way a MMO should be 'unfinished'. I mean, there are key elements that makes a game interesting and fun completely missing.
Oh, a Wurm Thread. I just want to add some of my impressions here too.
A friend told me about wurm 2 years ago. I gave it a try, but it wasnt much fun and I didnt know what to do, so I left after 1 days. Now, I heard that it was going to became gold, so I gave it a try again. And I found that I missed one of the best onlinegames! The graphic is good and players can nearly do and change everything around them. build villages, make roads, cut trees, lower of rise the ground. And there are so many things you can do: fighting, tailoring, farming, carpentry, woodcutting, coalmaking, blacksmithing, fishing, mining, digging...
You can specialise in everything and there are no Levels, you just earn skill by doing something. And you really have to eat and drink, and things rotten over time. I never found an onlinegame that is that realistic and complex like this one. the only bad thing is, that there are no animations. Models just "hover" around, but they are not animated. But its strange, after some time, you dont even see that anymore. You are too busy with creating things, planing, talking. And this game creates its own roleplaying. You dont have to act like an medievil Human, who needs to eat, scout new areas, are thirsty, wounded or such things. The roleplay cames automaticly ingame. You are thirsty, so you seach for water. You are scouting the land and got hungry, so you search for food or ask someone or visit a village and work for them to get some wood.
But there arent many players online. about 50-100 on the homeserver (the one without PvP) and about 15-25 on wildserver ( there are 2 sides on this server that fight each other )
And there arent many specialist. There are some carpentryspecialist, master blacksmith and so on. but there are so many skills and no real specialist. And its all about quality in Wurm. The better you are, the better your producs quality is. And so they are stronger, better and wont rotten that fast.
Everyone can try it, its for free on homeserver. You just have a skilllimit and cant came to wildserver. But even the Premiumaccount is cheap, just 5 euro per month
this nis absolutly the right game for people who like to create and work together in teams. A Village need everybody. It needs the cook, the woodcutter, the farmer and so on. They all need each other and need to life with each other.
