SWG Replacement is in order.

Plasuma!!!Plasuma!!! Member Posts: 1,872

Well, it's been the talk of the MMO community for quite a while, but SWG will definately not be what it once was.

Now, I would like to ask if anyone has found a suitable replacement, or if they're happy with what they're playing now? I'm really into crafting and economy, so if there's a game out there that has pretty good options for those perameters, and isn't EVE online, then I'll give it a go.

The only game that can replace SWG is the SWG emu.

I suggest you give Saga of Ryzom a look.. I have been trying it out as well... the community rocks and the gameplay is very complex and immersive..

I joined up for that early on.  The interface was pretty cool with many programmable toolbars and desktops (windows).  Hopefully they still have those features as they were very neat.  I just had Star Wars withdrawal and had to return to the scene of the wreck.  But like the OP, my time has come.

I too wish there were a good MMO out there with crafting and economy like SWG used to have.  I don't mean to depress everybody out there, but I don't think it will ever happen again.  Thanks to WoW getting 5-6 million accounts, short-sighted executives will force their staff to emulate it as much as possible.

EVEN IF, somebody writes a decent MMO with the crafting and economy features we want, an SOE like company or SOE itself will make an offer the original devs cannot refuse, buy it out, and ruin it.  I think we are screwed unless there is somebody out there willing to write a game for the sake of making it really good and will not sell out (ahem MxO anybody?  not that it was that good).

I think Raph Koster designed the game with the belief that if it was really good and challenging and diverse that people would come.  WoW proved that idea wrong, despite being the romantic and ethical and moral idea it was.

They it seems very recently added and brand new starter area with npc's that give missions  that teach new players what seems to be everything they need to know to get a good grasp of the game, and even a Universal chat channel so new players on the noob/free trial island can ask veteran players questions about the game.

I'll second this. It is very similar to the original SWG in many ways. Very complex, very interesting, lots of cool stuff you can do, and no limits on your character (get the XP in the skill, learn the skill... no point restrictions). It's got a lot of the old SWG feel to it. Since they have a free trial it is well worth a DL and a look.

I have been playing Saga of Ryzom since launch and it is a far better game now then when originally launched. If you truly enjoyed the game play of SWG before the NGE, then you will enjoy playing SOR, they are very similar and SOR is a very fun and enjoyable game. Thank you for your time.

Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.

Well if i dare to make a prediction i say SWG has been changed to suit the ps3 and will make a almost sure appearance on ps3.

Also a KOTOR mmorpg will be made as this will end the debate of jedis existing in SWG and the main focus will be on content and the jedi class. They might include crafting and entertainers as a secondary class system. This mmorpg will most likely be another LA/SoE venture and also be on ps3.

Just my humble prediction.Probably will never happen.

If LA gets SOE to do anything else Star Wars, I will soil my pants.  Regardless of whether LA likes SOE or not, they MUST be aware of the absolute hatred of SOE by thousands and thousands (probably 100,000s) of former SWG players.

It would make no business sense to have to try and overcome all the negativity SOE has succeeded in generating.  Signing up with SOE to do anything Star Wars is GUARANTEEING failure.
