Who do you look to for your news?

With the "heavy" topics going on I really want to try something a bit less heated. I am sure some people will go at it anyway just for spite's sake, but so be it.

As the topic suggest, who are your news sources? What is it you like about those sources? Don't look at this thread as a reason to bash someone elses sources as much as it is a chance to provide sources that someone may not know about.

For the most part I get the basics of my news from CNN, Reuters, and the AP. I can't stand most broadcast news channels because they generally have a heavy slant one way or the next on their views. Now, I know SOME people get their news from MMORPG.com's OT section. If that's the case, you might see where your sources here get their info

"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

CNN and Bloomberg TV. Colbert Report and Daily Show for the real depressing days.

CBC/SRC, CNN, and TV5.  If all three channels say the same stuff, it is prolly the way it is...or at least how a westerner could interpret it.  I replace CBC/SRC with other locals newchains all the time, mixing them up, from the most "street" to the most "serious/nerdy", try to vary them.

I have to say I enjoy the Daily Show and even MORE so the Colbert Report for watching REAL news without taking it all so serious. Colbert can make me, and usually his guests, laugh at the most gruesome situations. Something I think we all need from time to time in this world of WTF-ness.

Fox News for the conservative side, CNN for the lib side.. and the networks nightly when I forget to change the channel while perusing MMORPG.com. There's no real other reason to watch the networks. Knowing what to disregard while watching the news is important, IMO. They all come at everything with their own biases, and being able to tell what is news vs agenda is helpful. Getting the news from one side is just inadequate.

Just a side note, I have switched channels and caught a bit of Keith Olbermann's show on whatever cable channel he's on and that is perhaps the worst show I've ever seen. I know its not really 'news' but his commentary, but Olbermann is such a joke.

When I feel like laughing a bit, I will watch some of the Daily Show. Eventually I turn the channel when I've had enough of that stuff, but it is amusing for a while. The sad thing is that people admit that the Daily Show is where they get their news. Off a comedy show. /shrug

Mainly I have the BBC on T.V.

It's 100% a government department, so you have to understand that some stories just won't get covered, and quite a few unintresting/unwanted government announcements will get massive airtime. News reports regulalry give conflicting information to support the political agendas of the day. And anything truely damaging to the government will never see the light of day. Propaganda at it's finest, in my opinion.

As the poster above concludes, it helps to have some sort of understanding of the news agancy you are using to filter it with.

I also like to check the difference in stories over at Sky and the ITN channels. I take in an hour of ABC news most days for an American perspective. Sky is really right wing, and ITN is my favourite.

I read The Daily Telegraph (daily) and The New York Times once a week. I get Boris Johnsons Weekly "I am a raving Tory" magasine, The Spectator.

Well, I'm boycotting talk radio and happy I am.  It's too one sided and sensationalized.  I feel a sense of calm now.

I do still listen to my late night radio show Coast to Coast AM with it's ghost and UFO stories.  I can't give those up.

    I guess FARK.com and Slashdot.com

I try to avoid "talk" anything. Just because it's all about the personal slant of the host. Unless it's something fun and uplifting like Colbert I don't much care to listen to a single speaker too long (save Wolf in the Situation Room, he'll usually just point things out without worrying about a side).

And if you want UFO stories, Reavo, come visit here sometime. I'm a hop, skip, and proberbial jump from Area 51 :P

Usually The Daily Show. Sometimes CBS news, 'cause it's conveinient.

MSN, since its my homepage, also gives me a bit of news. But mostly just the Above. MSN is too busy with pointless top 10s, or 5 pieces of advice etc.

Cool, I went to see a friend in Reno once and took a trip there.  We went rock climbing and stuff around that area.  Nevada is awesome.  I wouldn't mind living in Reno.   Art Bell used to do Coast to Coast AM from his home near there.  Some place called Parump, Nevada.

Have you seen a UFO?  I never have, but I believe that there is something to the stories.  Even if only one of all the stories are true, that one story is enough to be freakin awesome.  And there is one story that I have always thought was totally freaky, and that was the one where the UFO's were over the White House in 1952.  That one should be looked at some more, but you never hear about it much.

I believe in "UFO"s but not necessarily Alien UFOs. Goodness only knows what new tech is buzzing over our heads have the time. I've seen some pretty "unsual" moving lights out here, but even the f-22 Raptor can do some interesting air-tricks up there.

Now, if you want prove of "alien" lifeforms head down to the Strip. Man, there's just SOME people down there that absolutely CANNOT be from this Earth.

LOL, I used to listen to Coast to Coast AM when I worked night shift. That was back when Art Bell used to host it. It was always entertaining. Now I'll flip it on if I can't sleep, but the new guy just isn't remotely as good as Art was.

CBC News all the way...It's funny to watch different news channels and see the same incident covered so many different ways...There are times when your not sure if it's the same topic being covered... LOL

Actually, try picking up a copy of Rolling Stone and reading their free lance journalist stories on such topics as Enron, oil, and Lebanon. Definately not your politically correct blah American boob tube media. They even use the term "bullshit" to describe certain aspects of these events. Be prepared to have it called the way it is.
