Greets everyone. Just wanted to share my experiences within Eve-Online. I got my three day free trial from someone, can't remember who, but thanks. The trial ended up being four days, but hey I didn't complain. My first day I went in and started a character of the Caldari race. I proceded through the tutorial and then completed all of the training agent missions. I bought a few turrets along the way and squandered my money since I really didn't know how to lock multiple targets yet . When I got to the Level one Agent missions I found that they wanted much more as colateral for their missions, and many times my starter frig simply didn't have enough room to hold everything that needed to be transported so I put agent missions on hold.
I went in search of a good corp to join. Everyone in the game says you have to join a corp to get anything out of the game. So I joined Nocturnas Angelus(NOAN). Now don't get me wrong, mining can get boring, but for me it is one of the best ways to make cash quick. The corp also buys your ore for more than it is worth on the market. So I mined for a while with my one laser and corp mates did all the hauling for me, then bought a better frig with 2 lasers and then bought a better frig with 3 lasers. Last night I bought my industrial skill for 300k and I am taking out a loan from the corp for 400k to buy and outfit my very first industrial ship. Just 30 mins of mining gives me 266k in corp funds, so I plan to be able to pay off my loan as soon as I get my hauler.
Future are plans are to buy a thorax to mine with and that will be my main source of income. I will then spend the rest of my time hunting pirates and the corp just opened a new section for fighters and claimed one of those player owned stations. So hopefully I will be back in the battle and maybe back to agent missions in a few days.

Good to hear you like it so far.
People not joining any corp ingame is one problem turning down new players a lot.
This game is all about playing together with other players.
It's a MMORPG and no solo game.
I hear of people that it took them weeks to buy a rifter (a level 3 frigate that's not expensive at all) and then they loose it to some npc pirate in some belt and they are back where they started.
If you join a corp you get that rifter replaced for free usually (depends on corp ofc).
For us veteran players a rifter is worth not much and earned in no time. For a starting player it can take a few days to earn so why not team up with players that can help ya?
I hope you enjoy your time in eve squeee.
If all new players would start like you there would be much less disappointed ppl.
There is only one server(cluster). That's the good thing with eve.
Theoretically it's unlimited.
Current playercount: I logged in tonight and we reached 7174 people online at the same time. No other MMOTRPG has that on one server.
Good corp: Depends on what you wanna do. There's so much corps. Best is you just talk to people ingame.
Indeed it is all about teamwork and group play.
any group of people/players will beat a single player.
most larger older corps will give away frigates and industrial ships to newer players, often they will give away skill packs as well.
i've now been playing since the release, and still having a blast.

While I agree that a group of players will always beat a single player, I wouldn't say it is ALL about group play. I've been freelancing since December-ish, and been having a lot of fun dabbling in pirate hunting, mission running, research, a bit of production (mostly for my own needs) and so on. Of course I'll never be as good as a corp where people specialize in various areas, and combine their skills and time spent towards a comman goal. But I've been enjoying myself immensly nevertheless(!).

Great to hear you're still having a good time with the game. You mentioned you wanted to save up money to buy a BS. Nice goal but don't rush yourself into the ship. You should probably have about 2 months of skill point build up before you put yourself in a BS. You need to train your gunnery skill up to level 5 and several other skills up a couple of levels such as electronic warfare, weapons upgrades, energy grid upgrades....ect. A problem with a lot of players is they join a corp and see the older players flying around in these cool BS and instantly start skill training so they can fly one too. Hopefully their corp mates slow them down a bit but more often than not they end up getting themselves into a BS without the skills to use any of the useful equipment (large guns, damage mods, ecm). That topped with minimal to no PVP experience. End result is usually destruction of an expensive ship.
You said you were of Caldari race but flying a thorax? So did you change characters or train up to gallente cruisers? If your still caldari I would try to get myself into a blackbird cruiser. They are great for group PVP. If you can master the basic combat skills by hunting some NPCs (.5 or higher system) and then get someone to help you out with with some ECM training you'll be much more prepared to fly your BS.
In the mean time don't mine yourself to boredom and try to do a few agent missions here and there. They're not much more fun than mining but if you do enough of them you'll get the most precious items in the game from your agents.

The Moa is probably a good choice for you at this point in the game because it's more universal than the Blackbird. You can fit 4 miners vs. 3 on BB plus the extra high slot and 2 lows make them a bit more useful when hunting NPCs. (No they don't use ECMs thank god.)
For hunting NPCs I would use the following setup:
High Slots: 4 Medium Turrets (Depending on what you have been training) and 2 missle launchers.
I would choose the the medium turret guns that put you're optimal range at about 20. The close range guns may have a higher damage modifier, but close range is also where the NPCs do the most damage too. Also pay close attention to the specs on the ammo you are using. That more than anything will impact your range and amount of damage you do. What has the highest damage amount probably also carries a -50% penalty to your range (which will probably be ok for NPC since they are always trying to get close anyways.) You have to play around with several different ammo types until you find the right range/dmg combination you like.
Medium Slots: 1 Afterburner, 2 medium sheild booster, 1 cap recharger
Afterburner for speed (make sure you use 10MN). I wouldn't recommend using a Microwarp Drive (MWD) because they half your shields and cut your cap by 25%. It took me a while to figure that out. Since you'll most likely be fighting NPCs consistently you'll want those 2 shield boosters so you can recover quickly from each spawn or to give you a good boost when you get in trouble. The cap recharger will be very important to you especially after using your shield booster. You'll be dead in the water if you run out of cap and are low on armor.
Low Slots: 2 Damage Modifier, 1 cargo expander, 1 cap recharger
The damage modifiers will increase your rate of fire plus give you a bigger punch. Just make sure you are using the right kind for the type of guns you're using (Hybrids = Magnetic Stabilizers, Projectile = Gyrostabilizers, Lasers = Heat Sinks). You'll probably want a cargo expander on there since the Moa has a small cargo and you'll not want to keep having to drop off your loot at the station any more than you have to. The cap recharger will add to the medium slots cap recharge rate cause it's very important you don't run out.
Note: You may have to sacrifice a damage mod for a CPU or Power Grid upgrade. Not sure how your skills and guns will fit on that ship.
Other than cruisers you might want to take a look at is the Caracal. I haven't used that one myself but a lot of people like it because you can load 5 missles on that thing.
I find Energy Weapons to be very handy when hunting for NPCs, since they don't require ammo. More room in cargo for loot + all bounties go towards your account rather than buying more ammo. Then again I'm playing as an Amarr, so energy weapons come naturally. It may not be first priority in your current situation to start training other weapons though, Emperor knows it took me a long time to get around to dabble a bit in hybrid and projectile weapons...
Just a thought for the future.
