I think this is a great franchise with a lot of fans that will be attracted, and if it is marketed right, it will be a massive hit, so I think it will do very well, let me know what your thoughts are on this as well.
I love SG. I will play this game even if it crashes every 5 minutes and only has a few thousand subsribers.
While you may call me a fanboy of SG, I don't think that this game will have a huge player base and it might even fold within a year of release.
1) There are less SG fans that SW or ST fans. Less built in base. 2) There isn't a past game to have hooked people, just people that have watched the shows. 3) The backstory isn't that flexible. They can't later decide to add a world where "magic" works, an ancient evil Asgard zombie, etc.

What? Why not? The Ori and the Ancients both use what amounts to magic. Anubis was basically an undead energy being held together by a force shield. Loki was/ is a rogue Asgard. The other race in the alliance (forget what they are called) use some sort of magic powers as well. I think they are pretty flexible. Besides, we haven't even seen the Furlings yet.

I think they are going to get some older players on this game. Older players = stronger loyalty and money. Not a bad mix if you ask me. I really think this game could skyrocket and do quite well if they produce it properly. I know I'm excited! I can't wait to see what they come up with.
You can't predict if the game will be a massive hit or not. The "hit" factor all depends on the gameplay, content, polish and advertising. If the game sucks regardless how well it is advertised then it will be a failure. If the game is great and its not advertised it won't attract as many people as it could. So it all depends on how they design the game if they follow the WoW style game play it will suck majorly in my eyes, if its got depth to the game some uniqueness in how you can design your character, decent crafting, involving content, then yes this game could be a success. So until i see something concrete concerning how the game is progressing I am just gonna keep my eggs in the cartons for now and not in the basket.

wut do u mean the backstory isnt flexible!?!?!? its probably the most flexible backstory there could possible be, u just go "new gate address" new story, new info, new everything.
Look at the MMO landscape out there right now. It's pathetic. Everybody is playing WoW because there's really nothing else out there--and WoW is about the most vanilla, simple and repetitive MMO out there. People are starved for something new, something different and unique with lots of content...and something that doesn't involve Dwarves.
Look at the list of "Games in Development". The only hopes to save the MMO genre are this game, Star Trek Online (which I'm cautiously optimistic about--though I fear the devs close relationship with SOE), Pirates of the Burning Sea (which by all accounts will be a lovely MMO...that nobody will ever hear about), LotR Online--which is being made by the same guys who screwed up DDO and AC2 ('nuff said there) and Warhammer Online--and who knows IF that game will finally ever get done.
If the game is made well, the people will come. Oh yes, they will come in huge droves. And they'll be generally more mature, ADULT gamers as opposed to the 13 year old uber kiddies, since Stargate TV isn't really geared for the kids.
alright i think stargate would make a perfect game i mean think about it, if you watch the shows you would agree with me it would be cool to choose from all these different races of people and go through the stargate and explore the universe visiting all these different worlds.
it really all depends on how they make the game because you dont want it to turn out like another swg, i mean its such a good show, i dont want them to bring shame to stargate as they did starwars with swg
I'm big time Stargate Fan, have loved this show sense it first aired on Showtime was hooked from the Pilot. I been watching the show for past 10 years. I own them all on dvd save season 9-10. I will watch it on DVD and then turn around watch the same exact ep that same day on Sci-Fi channel. That is how much of a fan I am of the show.
However I personally feel the game will flop coming out the doors. Stargate is not structered in such a way that it would make it a great MMO. On the surface it sames like a great idea but in order to make Stargate work as MMO you will have to restructer it so that it can work as MMO, this is a big no no.
Stargate would make a great single player FPS. I would be great to be able to join up with a few friends and run through the game in Coop. The game would be good for MP game like Counterstrike. However it will make a bad MMO.
Stargate is so story structered that its not even funny, its the storys and characters that make the show great. MMO suck at delevering story lines. It also has moral issues that creat conflicts if you will between characters which add to the enjoyment of the story. There fact is that stargate is driven by human elements that can not be duplicated by AI.
Sure they will build a Stargate game and the second Stargate fans get in the game and start playing it there gone be disappointed, there gone go in expecting it to have the same feel and content they have come to expect from the show and yet there gone get a pale shadow of that.
I would rather see them make a single player game out of Stargate because it would work better, yet to see them take stargate turn it in to a MMO and take short cuts change content so that it will work as an MMO would be a complete waste of time and would be a slap in the face to the show, the cast and crew, and to the fans.
I will try it out when it comes out but its gone take a lot to impress me enough to want to continue to stay and continue playing.
