Another lineage 2 clone?

Zerocool032Zerocool032 Member Posts: 729

Any thoughts?  Because this looks like another one of those polished korean MMO's.  alot like RF online

If you dunno what i mean , its like.  Everyone looks the same, the same armor sets for the same lvls.  The same skills, you lvl the skills up, hardcore grinding, ect.

Any idea on what this will be like? :

the only thought that I get when reading this post is that you definitly need to do more research.

Nah ive watched all the videos, looked at all the screenshots, and read a bunch of stuff on it.  Its just when a polished MMO comes out like this it ends up like RF online, or lineage 2.

Im hoping it will be good.

Well if you REALLY read up all the information, then you would have known the game has much more westernized gameplay (over 2500 quests, Lineage 2 sure doesn't have that) combined with the intresting part of korean MMORPG's such as clan politics.

Calling AL a L2 clone is like calling WoW a pvp game.

    LoL?

You arent really getting me.  Look at the endless lines of korean MMO's.  What do they have in common?  Their UI looks almost identical, the game mechanics are the same, and its the same long boring gring.

Im not saying AL looks like a L2 clone (average korean MMO) but look at the graphics, they have a striking similarity.

Well yes, great games do often look alike. Especially when they are made by the masters of games. Or in this case, Korea..

dang this game has too many items :/

    normal, rare, unique, and elite

normal monster drop normal and rare

boss monsters drop normal, rare, unique and elite.

elite items are hardest to get

u can only buy normal items from shop.

stats and colors are different in 4 types of items.

u get better added bonus stats for rarer item

Actually most Korean MMOS really suck. They may have some good eye candy, but the navigation, quests and overal game play is really bad. L2 was the best I've playes and I really wanded to like it, but it just wasn't very much fun and navigation was just plain horible. It was still better than EVE.

I suppose this is your opinion and that's how you feel. But I feel thar Korean MMOS are the best in every way. Better quests, pvp, graphics, and yes, navigation too. I haven't played any other game that matches up to these. Not even WoW ( And I've played quite a few too )

And EvE just sucks in general.

Okay, I agree with most of that... but quests? Have you ever played Lineage 2? Worst quests ever.

I love Lineage2 ... or rather "loved" ... past tense. But the issues for me aren't navigation or gameplay but rather the lack of control of botting and RMT that permeate the game now. Of course the grind is a bit excessive, but every level is an accomplishment that you really feel. And yes, the quests reek. But it still offers some of the most addictive content. There isn't an AI-centric game out there I haven't beaten and gotten horribly bored with within weeks. L2's core is the people and the interactions of individuals, clans, alliances in the persistant world. Humans are ever so more diverse and treacherous than any programmer can program into gameplay.

AL isn't a RFP/L2/WoW/insert-game-here clone. I hope that it offers the same impact of human interaction. The quests, lower grind, large scale persistant world interactions are exciting. And there are plenty of options to individualize your avatar as you level.

As far as cookie-cutter avatars ... there's always a trade off (given current technology) between individualization and massive scale interactive events such as seiges. You can't have 500 to 800 unique characters on one seige field engaged in completely individual actions all at once. Personally, I'll take the FPS over everyone being unique any day. How large scale is the battle vs. # of potential participants has to be addressed. And I LOVE large scale battles.

Yeah L2 large scale battles were intense.  Its just the fact that everyone has the same armor per lvl.  Its kinda a turn off

L2 has plenty of different types of armor per level ... and it can be mixed/match ... but the crux of the matter is that there is only ONE *best* armor for each class and it must be worn in a set in order to get the full advantage. Given how competitive L2 is, everyone in a class knows exactly what armor set they must have in order to stay even. Other armors are crushed for crystals or used on secondary alts/buffers.

L2 could have done a better job by allowing optional colors, equal stats for different textured armors ... however ... how much impact would that have on your frames-per-second in large scale events? I dunno. I'd guess that they took it into consideration. It seems like NCSoft made the decision to minimize individual characteristics to maximize mass combat capabilities yet still try to allow players to participate that didn't have the latest/greatest systems. Its also a marketing factor that the primary player-base is NOT western for L2 and eastern markets are not as fanatical as western markets about being unique.

but never mind all that ... this is an ArchLord thread  ...

and I can't WAIT! Gotta love the honeymoon period where you're just totally excited with anticipation and just SURE that THIS time the game will stay a prince and not go *POOF* and turn into yet another frog.

For two years I played l2. And I didn't say I like the quests in l2, I said "better quests, pvp, graphics, and yes, navigation too." I'll make it alittle more clear for you. I like the quests the korean mmo's in general.

L2 is based on support class (healer, buffer,..) for play in group, solo is veray hard

In AL, you loot many potion on mob (5 lvl under max) and you can play solo or in group without waiting healer/buffer

and the irony is that its the truth.

Everquest: before WoW, the most popular mmorpg in the west.
WoW: The most popular mmorpg in the west. clone of Everquest

Lineage: Most popular mmorpg in asia.
Lineage 2: 2nd most popular mmorpg in asia. very popular game, and a lot like Lineage 1
Ragnarok Online: another popular mmorpg in asia, many things came from Lineage.
RFO: had over 1 million subscribers. Lineage clone.

Gameloading - I know that. I know it all too well. The thing is, the person whom I was quoting was, as far as I could tell, stating that only "great games" look alike graphically. I just found that amusing.

Thats not what she said. she said great games look alike. not ONLY great games.
  • MyzRainMyzRain Member Posts: 43

Wow, lol. Stop arguing with me. Even if she did say that "great games" look alike, not ONLY them, it still really does not matter when you think about what I found amusing to begin with. I do not even know why I put the word ONLY into that sentence. Regardless, though, I do not see how it affects this entire disagreement. I do not even know why we have disagreed at all, unless if you are just looking for something to argue over. My point is that it is funny how one could state that games, under any adjective (but in this case - great!), could be said to look alike graphically. It is silly that one could bias their views (her views being represented by her useage of the word "great") and state that these games look graphically the same.

Gahhhh, what are you making me say? Think about it.

I am commenting to the OP....

AL isnt a L2 clone but its a L2 killer. From an article printed in korea last year, it was an interview with the lead game designer for AL stated that L2 is a good PvP game but lacks of other important game elements. Endless PvP wont bring a player of a hero feeling yet nothing to be rewarded off.

So more or less you will get to know what AL have and L2 have not.. grinding is eseential in all MMO.. unless quest is aplenty and rewards is delicious... afterall grinding is very obvious when a game have poor quest system.. ::::01::

All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.
