Questions about Atys.

Matt3DMatt3D Member Posts: 26

Hello, MMORPG.com.  I'm new to the forums, but have been visiting the site for a few years now.  The SoR forum seems pretty calm and mature and I figured I'd post a few questions.  I'm patching SoR now, having just signed up for the free trial.  I'm a roleplayer first and foremost and this game seems to be a RPer's dream.  Here are my questions:

What is the technology level of Atys like?  It seems to have a mix of sci-fi and fantasy.  Are there computers?  Personal communication devices?  Spaceships and vehicles?

Are there various languages?  Are the various races of the game native to the world, and if so, are they related in some way?  (i.e. are they all different "races" of a central species?)

Are roleplay clothes available in the game?  (social armor, as some call it)?

How large is the RP community?  Is there a central forum or roleplay association?

If you were a hotdog, would you eat yourself?

Thanks in advance.  Hope to see you in Atys!

    The Karavan keep the main technology hidden away for themselves.  The highest levels of technology appear to be the Tryker windmills (which supply power to their glow-globes it seems) and primitive firearms.  Semi magical technology does for other things, such as transfer of knowledge through amber cubes, hovering buildings in zorai and so on.  The Matis genetically engineer plants for their purposes.  There isn't a lot of overt, recognisable technology, its very difference.

    Computers all belong to the Karavan (NPCs)
    Personal communication is accomplished via the 'nanseed' in every  homin.
    Spaceships so exist, but again belong to the Karavan.  Homin don't get them.

    There aren't different languages, though we've seen ancient letters and numerals in certain events, there are cultural differences between the races however and they express themselves somewhat differently.  Homin are close enough to each other to interbreed.

    All armour is armour, there are no 'just clothes' but you can mix and match armour types and sets for a good range of appearances.

    Almost everyone will RP to some degree and there is no rudeness directed at it.  There's no central organisation but guilds identify themselves from their level of RP.  Check the guild listing on the forum for more on that.

    No, I don't like hotdogs.

    Me too. ::::01::

    Only the Karavan, a "higher power" (see here), have higher technology like ships, laser weapons, etc. They came from elsewhere and brought some of their technology with them, as well as the influence of their goddess Jena. Though they have not shared their technology (as far as I know), homins have developed some of their own, such as ranged weapons (pistols, rifles, launchers, etc.). But, as the main page of the lore says, Atys resembles an amnesic planet, as we are missing other things like boats. Keep in mind that there is no metal or stone native to Atys, since it's essentially a giant plant and you won't find inorganic material growing from a plant. The only metal is what the Karavan brought. So armor is made of tough wood, Matis live in the trunks of large trees in the forest, weapon blades/points are made from teeth, claws, shell, etc. The Kamis (see here) taught homins magic, the energy of which is drawn from the Sap, a substance present both in Atys and in homins themselves parallel to blood. Homins also have a nanoseed in their brain that allows them to communicate telepathically to some extent (i.e. directed long-distance communication) and to respawn at the point of death. Withering caused by old age, or shattering by extreme or repeated damage, can cause permanent death (no, the game doesn't force permadeath, but the nature of the nanoseed allows one to easily RP a permanent death if one wants to). To homins, the nanoseed is known simply as the Seed.

    All of the races currently speak a common language, but it can be assumed that they have their own unique, ancient languages. The origin of homins is a mystery - there are many rich mysteries large and small on Atys, I should note :) - but they are all considered "homin" with Zora
