End-game..

outthislifeoutthislife Member Posts: 115
A few weeks ago I did the trial, and I loved the game. It took me a little while to get used to the combat, and how to kite, avoid being hit, etc. But, it was really enjoyable, I sadly however never got to feel the experience of the PvP because, well, I was in a frigate.

I am thinking of ditching the horrible game that WoW is and buying this because of it's open PvP in .0 space, but I'd like to know what the seniors of the game think of end-game PvP.

I really have no clue how corps work, how fights/wars start, or how you control a 'region' but I'd like to know your thoughts on it.

Thanks.

I don't think there really ever is an "end-game" since you can't "max out" a character.  I participated in a lot of PvP in a frigate and a cruiser, so as long as you have the skills to be a tackler (someone that warp scrambles and webs the target) I think you're still viable for PvP.  My suggestion is to find a corporation that has a training corp and start asking how to get into PvP ASAP.  I've heard of people getting killing people in PvP after less than a month.

While you can get into the "end game" of PvP from the start with even as little as a frigate, it would require you to be part of a larger gang of pilots and your best bet would be as a "tackler", someone that flies up with a small frigate, locks down a target while the big boys in battleships take it down. Or similar.

Corps are just like Guilds in other games. In the deep 0.0 it's usually roaming gangs of pirates trying to prey on unsuspecting miners while roaming gangs of alliance mates or anti-pirates try to prey on the pirates. Keep others out of your space so your miners can reap the rewards of low sec and keep your industrial empire churning out items.

Smaller scale PvP can be utterly amazing. 6-10 pilots flying around trying to kill anything they can. Even better if you have scouts in cloaked ships at various points so they can warn you if someone's coming and you can setup an ambush.

The larger scale PvP fleet ops can be fun as well, but lag can make those rather painful at times. The server *can* handle 300 man fleet battles unlike some people say, but not at a moments notice. Load balancing takes a day or two to kick in so the first day of a campaign might be rough, but it'll smooth out after that.

Wars in 0.0 can happen at any time, it's a free fire zone and most of the map is made up of those systems. "Empire wars", where you can freely attack your enemy in protected space are voted on by a corp and cost 1 million to 50 million ISK a week and last till you stop paying or your target gives in.

There really isn't an End Game for EVE.

I guess what you would call End Game PvP would be 0.0 space combat where you are fighting for territories and taking down player owned stations. Seiges can last days and there can be hundreds of ships invovled in operations.

It's alot different from what you have done in your little time in it.

I played solo for almost 5 months prior to joining a corp.  I now wish I would have joined my current corp my first day in EVE.  Corporations make a huge impact upon game play, both positive and some negative.

Frigates are essential to effective combat manuevers!  Do not be fooled by their size nor their costs.

I have used an Amarr Coercer class destroyer for the first 6 months of game play.  Many players will tell you they are crap although 6 months with maybe 4-5 lost is quite contradictory to thier claims.  I've easily soloed for many hours in .1 systems and have even engaged a few spawns in 0.0 which indcluded Battleships although I doubt I'll be doing that again anytime soon.  My current ship of choice is the Amarr Retribution class Assault Frigate.  These things are simply amazing!  There's no spawn which concerns me other then the 3 cruisers with 3+ BattleCruisers and even then they are a piece of cake; BC spawns have heavy tanking aiblity and time spent is not worth the rewards.

Briefly going back to "frigates", EVERY single fleet will request tacklers.  This requires those pilots to be effecitve in frigates.  Train up Electronic Warfare skills and you'll be an extremely valuable asset to the fleet.

^here's a good example to use to enforce the fact that bigger is _NOT_ always better.  Anyone want to guess the winner out of a Malediction (Amarr Interceptor - fast frigate) vs. a Megathron (Gallente Battleship)?  Watch it and post your views on the outcome.  :)

Even your girl friend, or wife, might reasure you that "bigger is not always better". :P

    Thanks for everything mindspat =]

But, I really don't know much about the game. I heard about 'assault frigates' and does it just mean, it's suited that way or what? What about frigatesII or whatever they're called? Does that mean frig tech2?

Know of any guides that could tell me all about it? It utterly confuses me when people on the EVE Forums talk about it. :3

I think I'll try it out once again, but actually buy the game. Hoping that there's more to it than agents that give you the same quest, over and over. After doing WC 4 times it gets boring =

You do what you want to do.

If you don't wanna do missions, don't do 'em. It's not WoW where you are guided on a single path until you reach endgame.

I just recently am getting back into this game myself. I should be in a corp here soon and can already fly destroyers on my 2nd day .
