Combos-->Cool ...but, how does it work?

HeyianHeyian Member Posts: 40
From what I read, 9D won't use hotkeys. So how do you use your combo? Click on punch, kick, etc... Or do you have hotkeys for that? Like my good old fighting games, a button for High-Kick, another one for Low-Punch, etc... I'm just trying to figure out how to play this game since I'm waiting for the beta to come out. Till then, I read, I watch movies and pictures and I dream about it so, pls help me enhance my dreams!

Actually, you can only use combo for melee attack, at least for now.
There are four kinds of melee skills and i'll classify them as combo strike, one-hit strike, flying strike and charge strike. You can find some vids made by Thachsanh on www.youtube.com which demonstrate combo strike skills of some clans.
    1. Combo strike will give you extra damage for every hit, which will consume a little mana. Every combo strike skill has three parts. At skill level 1 and 2, you can only perform the first part (often only 1 hit but stronger and faster than your regular attack). At skill level 3 and 4, you can perform 2 parts and from skill level 5, you can perform the full combo (often 5 hit max).
    2. Charge strike skills require you to charge for a few seconds (the charge time is 0.5s at lvl 1 and will be increased by 0.5s for every lvls) before it can be executed. The paralysis effect is not as useful as that of a flying strike skill because its duration is short and there's a delay after using the skill. Despite its ability of dealing heavy damage at higher levels, i rarely see people use it.
    3. One-hit strike skills deal only one hit but you can link them to create your own chain attack by using one-hit strike skills. For example, you use skill no1, then skill no3, then skill no2, then skill no1... However, you will need at least 3 one-hit strike skills to do that because each of them can only be executed again after 2 seconds. If you choose a combat class, your one-hit skills can also cause status such as silence or bleeding.
    4. Flying strike skills are only exclusive to combat class and they may be the most useful and powerful skills. You will charge at your enemy from a long distance, striking it with a heavy blow which can disable your target for a few seconds.
During PK or PvP, a smart player will start with a flying strike skill, then unleash his one-hit strike combo on the enemies. This will ensure victory in most cases if your skills are at a decent level and you build your charater well.

Maybe I just misread and theres no hotkeys only for movement(I'd like that to be true in fact...).

What do u mean by exclusive to combat class only?? I know all clans have 4 types of class but I thought they all have combat instances.... ? So only 1 type can use Flying Strike?!?!

Yes, only 1 type (the one that specializes in melee combat) can learn and use that skill.
Basically, 9Dragons has 4 classes (however, each clan has its own pros and cons) and i'll classify them as combat, qi-gong, support and hybrid.
    • Combat: I have not much to talk about it. Very simple to play (but difficult to become powerful if you don't know the right build). If you need detail information about this class, contact Thachsanh. (I personally don't like this class because most people who choose this class have a tendency to PK support class)
    • Qi-gong: This class is similar to a Mage. It specializes in long-ranged combat (later, you can even have AoE effect). However, most offensive skills have long casting/delay time. This class also has some defensive skills such as absorbing physical damage with your mana, reflecting physical damage, being invicible... And don't let the word invicible fool you; that skill is only useful for running away because you can't do anything while invicible.
    • Support: This class is other classess' key to victory. It has skills that can greatly boost your 5 main stats, which equals to boosting your levels. This is the only class that can cure internal and external wounds. Though having 2 qi-gong attack, this class should fight with melee skills. A good build for this class should center around 1-strike skills (not to mention their boosting skills).
    • Hybrid: This class can fight in melee combat well (but their meele skills are those of the support class). It also have Qi-gong skills (as powerful as those of Qi-gong class but not very accurate because of its low int). They have a skill that can boost 5 main stats (but not as powerful as that of support class) as well as healing skills (can't cure wounds though). Generally, this class is a perfect choice for those who enjoy soloing most of the time. Remember, its stat-boost skill can stack up with those of support class.
Which combo you use is based on your build and class. For example, the Support class has high mana but low health, so its combo should be the combination of 3 or more one-strike skills.

So according to this info, there are only 4 classes with some variations from the different clans, is that it? So correct me if I'm wrong but....how is this game different from the rest of the MMOs out there? Is it PvP oriented? I'm asking this because I love the martial art fantasy setting and its lores and I would certainly be very disappointed if the combat system turn out to be just the same old stuffs everyone else is putting up. I was thinking that this game's combat system would be more...flexible and offer a wide-ranging palette of skills for ALL players to learn from and not be restricted to once again....a class system, and again...a PvP system. I guess I had my hope up again for nothing. *sigh*

After the first class change, you have 4 classes for each clan. There will be a second class change which will branch even more into clan specific classes.

This game is very PvP oriented, and it does use the classes base system with a mix of skill base. The combat system is flexible and offer a wide range of skills within each class. For example the melee class has about 30 different skills. Each skills has separate skill level, if you practice a skill long enough it will become more powerful. The skill training is long and hard enough you can't master them all, you will have to pick a certain skill sets to train them up.

Together with the stat point allocation, you will see a lot of unique character developments. These 30 different skills has their 2nd circle version and 3rd circle version which you could only learn from books, more powerful, offer more effects and again come with separate skill level. With all these skills, you can mix and match them all you want.

When you say we can't learn all the skill, do you mean we are restricted or we can't possibly do it due to the time it takes to master them? I didn't quite get you there. And you said that there will be some advance classes after the initial 4 classes with skills that are more and more in-depth and powerful...but once again are restricted to those classes, correct? If so then let me draw a comparison to Oh I dunno....Ragnarok Online. They got initial classes that branch into more advance classes with their own set of unique skills and spells and whatnot. Oh and they have a stat system too and no you can't learn every skills there are in one class no matter how hard you try. So how much of this is similiar to 9Dragons' class system?

No, you can learn all the skill that available to your class, it just the time it takes to master them all. However, you are still restricted to the skills available to your class. This cant be change.
