Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the company behind Stargate Worlds has announced that they have licensed Epic's Unreal Engine 3 for use with their MMORPG based on the hit TV series franchise:
|
MESA, Ariz., August 28th , 2006 Game developer Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment (CME), and Epic Games today announced a license agreement in which CME will use Epics Unreal® Engine 3 technology for the development of the upcoming, highly anticipated Stargate Worlds and future multi-platform games.
Based on the popular science fiction television series Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Worlds is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) which is scheduled to launch in late 2007.
The combination of a robust graphics environment with extensible development tools allows us to deliver ground-breaking game content for Stargate Worlds commensurate with the quality of the #1 rated sci-fi franchise and future multi-platform games, said Joe Ybarra, vice president of product development for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment. Our development team is very excited about using the Unreal Engine 3.
MGM is committed to finding ways to extend the Stargate franchise and this is a logical step, said Travis Rutherford, executive vice president, MGM Consumer Products and Location Based Entertainment. Stargate Worlds will be the premier Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) developed by CME. Combining Unreal Engine 3 technology with Big Worlds client server technology ensures an exceptional MMO experience for Stargate fans and gamers on a global basis. Furthermore, these partnerships will maximize CMEs resources and efforts, allowing the developer to create the most fantastic worlds, the best characters and the most compelling game play possible.
Combining these technologies (Unreal® Engine 3 and Big World) provides Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment the strategic advantage to deliver highly anticipated, top quality games where the focus is on making great gameplay and immersive worlds, added Tim Jenson, chief executive officer of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment.
We have a lot of Stargate fans around our company, so were thrilled to see that Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment is creating a massive multi-player game based on Stargate, said Mark Rein, vice president, Epic Games Inc. To have that MMO created using Unreal® Engine 3 extends the excitement even further for us.
BigWorld looks forward to working with Epic and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment to enable the exciting goals of Stargate Worlds. Our highly available secure server architecture is the perfect companion to the Unreal 3 client engine. said Gavin Longhurst, director of business development for BigWorld.
Officially licensed by MGM Interactive, Stargate Worlds is being developed by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment.

i'd be interested to see the screenies....if anything lol
I'm stunned!
I can't believe a MMOG developer has sense enough to know that they can't possibly make a better engine! No propietary MMOG engine can even come close to the power of the Unreal Engine 3...in terms of quality, this should be a special MMOG indeed.
And, on top of that, their using the Bigworld server technology...
I think we're beginning to see true AAA MMOG titles...it's about time!
i luv the show, but it should have little to do with game...or it's just going to be wack like mxo....
you gotta talk to the oneill npc to get the quest man!!!!!!!

Don't click here...no2
doubt it.
also expect major lag with this huge graphics engine
It's no mystery.. they're using it for that marvel comic mmo.
Make a difference!
I was a little concerned at the screens available on the BigWorld site when it was announced that SGW would be using the BW engine. I'm glad they're using something as mature as the Unreal engine for the client stuff. Contrary to what someone mentioned earlier, I doubt client lag will be a serious issue on any recent hardware and the client should be able to scale down the graphics as needed.
This is a good announcement for SGW indeed.
so...
heaven and earth are ruthless,
and treat the myriad creatures as straw dogs
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
SOE is going to use it in EQ3, but screw SOE, i am never going to play a MMO from them again, for screwing up the best MMO, SWG (PRE-CU, but CU made CH a very usefull prof).
I think the SG MMO is going to be a very good game to play, tho i am looking forward to Star Trek Online.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
SOE taking over Stargate? Talk about . I have little hopes for SOE making a SUCCESFULL Marvel and Stargate MMO, with there record currently.
"SOE only knows how to make EQ"
Wonder if they gonna make Stargate MMO "Stargatey and Iconic"
