Just recently I've started looking for a decent p2p mmorpg, with a mature community and most of all, roleplay. Registred here on mmorpg.com in hopes that it could lead me to such.
Anyways, I've come to try out Face of Mankind, and although it has a huge potential, it fails bringing what some reviews and trailers suggested, roleplay. Maybe if it had more players (it has enough for some wars to wage out, and to fill up most factions), maybe things would be more interesting. And if most of the community was more mature, I'm sure the game would feel more rewarding in the long term.
I'm not saying it's a bad mmorpg, I think the idea is great, and they are working on a big update which seems to bring several changes players look forward to. There's one thing I like about it, the no grinding, meaning no need to spend day after day killing things for items and experience. Here your evolve in fame, skill and (supposedly) as a team (faction). Items are all player made, which isn't bad, there's a fair share of traders and such in the community.
I have to add this is the first mmorpg I dared to play for in order to play, and even though it has let me down, I'll keep an eye on it, and hope for its best.
I've played some other free mmorpgs, but they're all too similar and dull, I suppose the best one I ever played was Ultima Online, since it was the first that got me truly addicted.
Unfortunatly I'd have to say WoW...( I know, I know you don't have to say it)
I started out playing UO when it first came out. That was a great game for it's time, can't believe people still play it today though...
For the time being I've got my hope set on Vanguard, it is still too early to tell how it will be come release. However, for now it sounds pretty good.
WOW for very simple reasons: You can find any community you want. You can pvp any time you want with reward. You can pve any time you want with reward. You can travel anywhere you want quickly. You can run the game on just about anything. You can customize the interface however you like. The most intuitive, easy to use, and professional website of any MMO.
There is no other mmorpg that can touch wow at the moment. EQII loses its appeal after a month or two. EVE is nothing more than a social gathering time sink for the casual gamers who feel the need to have a section of the online gaming community. Guild Wars is a great game but it's nothing more than arena based combat with an rpg shell. SOR has some serious potential but at this point if they haven't figured it out, it's not going to happen. DAOC *was* alright.
It all boils down to community... If you're playing an mmorpg without a community, the game will suck. Therefore, WOW takes the win and honestly... there isn't a fucking thing anyone can say that will change this. WOW can attract and keep a player happy for a hell of a lot longer than any of the other mmos out right now. Unfortunately, I'm not even the hugest wow fan... I enjoy the pvp occasionally and that's about it.
My first RPG was Runescape....Then i noticed that i only play 35% of the game, and got to pay real money to play the rest of it, and quits..
After that, i took a long breake from those RPG's, and started playing EA Sports and Games stuff.
After that long break(of one year!) I heared about some MMORPG's(MapleStory, Everquest..etc) from my friends, but didnt liked any.
So i started searching for RPG's at lots of sites...got tired from typing the registration form all the time, but finaly i found my God RPG! Star Sonata....Yea they want money too..but i realized the servers cost money and that is the only way to improve the game and fix bugs etc. so I still play Star Sonata still on the free trail..lol Thats my virtual life

Old school EQ was annoying. You couldn't find a party, you swim around or jump off cliffs over and over until you find one.
That was ages ago though. I'm sure most levels were saturated within 6 months.
I played from day 1 to level 45, I think, then quit. I think the cap was 50.
I may be off 10 numbers, it was in 1999 so I don't really remember.
