I played RS for like 2 and a half years... It's not that great really. The community is full of 12 year olds that are completely immature and will do anything to insult you. Even if it's you buying an item for more than it's worth on purpose, you'll still be called a 'noob.'

As far as actual free games go, I'd reccomend Battlemaster. Nothing special in the graphics department, but the creator doesn't tolerate cheaters, so the community is mostly decent people... and definitely more mature than the 12 year olds in Runescape.
the online game i like best is flyff. the graphics are pretty good and so is the sound. it used to lag all te time but that kinda stopped after a major update. the lvling isnt really that hard either.u can probably get from lvl 1 to lvl 30 in 1 day if u wanted to, tho u would probably have to grind reeally hard. other than lvling theres pk and pvp so u can take a break.there isnt much of a story to it. most of the time u'd just hang out or lvl in a party. the recent hacks on it are annoying tho.
Maple Story: full of hackers, the graphics are child like and the game is a huge grind, I wouldn't reccomend it if your over 12 or you dont cheat. http://www.mapleglobal.com for english version.
Runescape: Never got into it myself, played for about an hour and got bored of it. I've heard the community is terrible and I think the game needs a graphics update. Also heard it's incredibly addictive. http://www.runescape.com

ok this was a little outta topic... Uhm.. mate stay playing Silkroad Online, most games i've played online for free are crappy... If u want somethin else than mmorpg's go try GunZ there's so much NICE people there and you'll have so much fun as well. Rakion is fun too but lots of lame nerds plays it so beware. Anyway the best games you can find around are p2p... but fear not, there'll always be a genius that will be setting up a private server in that case go try Linage II & Priston Tale

OK...im getting quite pissed now about topics like this. To tell you all out there, there is no such thing as the BEST online game. I mean DIFFERENT people, DIFFERENT thoughts. Football fans - Football games. Golf players - Golf games. Button mashing lovers - games like 02jam etc.etc. Patient and calm people - RPGs. Young children or people whos mind isnt mature - cartoon/anime/children games. And so on but im a lazy person.
So if you ask me, dont be suprised if guild wars or eve online was rated 4/10 but 1 guy. To me, just try out a few games and if you like it, you like it. if you don't then don't start spamming in all topics "(name of the game) is dumb and stupid and etc.etc."

ummm well i played runescape for a good 2 years, got too lvl 101 thats ok...but then i played silkroad it made me think ("wow...runescape is a really lame game LOL")...and silkroad is absolutely amazing...i'd definately say silkroad. however i find the community is a little more active on runescape, although it is almost near to impsiible to hav an intelligent convo on runescape cos every1 seems to b so gosh darn immature

maybe so, but you must remember that it is a game that isnt downloaded, its convinant for those with slower connections or for thoes which dont find graphics an issue. but i agree to the fact that "eye candy" does make an mmo experience special...runescape is a good starter mmo but then u will eventually find out there are better ones out there
RS was a good 'starting' game 5 + years ago. Even then I was thinking EQ was a MUCH better experience. There are a ton of better free mmrpgs out there now. No one has slow connections any more. cable / dsl is so cheap now. I rember RS had awful lag anyways.

2moons game no question, brand new major action mmorpg jamm packed with action topped with action drizzled in action, it's even a challenge to fish! If you are familiar with dekaron, (a korean game that is a pain in the arse to get into if your not korean), it will be like that but waaay better, now, I did say WILL meaning it doesn't come out to closed beta until later this month! Open beta will hopefully follow it up in december and trust me, I've been waiting since april so go sign up and go register for a chance to win a beta key also on this site!!

for one thing adventurequest is awful i would recomend runescape
