Have you tried with the new patchers and clients to log in and see how the lag is for you now? Also have you made sure all your drivers are updated? I thought all of mine were and about 3 weeks ago i was having problems, turns out last week i found a sound card driver... Been working great ever since..
no offense, but that is kind of a poo poo kind of answer (from that dev i mean). no engine would be perfect for any MMO. That is why you buy a base and tweak the engine to fit your needs.
You can only tweak things so far. RV does a LOT of things that other games dont do. Other games dont even come near the things this game does in many ways.

can i ask what you see wrong with it? From the visuals you say? I actually dont have much problem with the visuals of RV, the trees look real and feel real now that we cant run through them, the chars look pretty real as well cept for some joint movement, [Nothing that cant be fixed in the long run] They are working on putting in speed grass, which should Livein up the play field, the rivers look GREAT , Combat can use some work on how it looks, cuase its always the same animation it changes between like 5 of them i think... I dont see any problems with this engine they have made, OH and about them not being able to buy one so they had to make one, Maybe they couldnt buy one yes, But i really dont think any engine out there would be compatible with how RV works, so them making one i think was the better route to take... Also it doesnt cost them anything but time, which is why RV will not be going anywhere as you may think down the toilet.... They will be around for a while even with our small community... And with alittle more time and updates im sure all the people htat have said bad things about it will change there name and prolly end up playing in the long run...

Four Score and Something something something ........... Roma Victor is bad because it is buggy and many release features were not available at launch,plus the lag,no trees, no animals etc. These kinds of games will never look great, because of the money and manpower it requires to make it so. If the game released finished and relatively bug free, with the full skill trees available etc it would have been a popular game. Sadly it didn't and right now instead of improving on it, they are busy fixing it. This doesn't help the game obviously and makes people afraid to buy the game .
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

Actually that would be sempiternal. I haven't seen his idiotic ramblings of late though, perhaps his Roman countrymen assassinated him. I believe that happened often back then.
Yeah, RV kinda sucks right now. The best, and the worst thing about RV is the community. RV is like Big Brother but worse. Alliances are made and broken every day, people really arn't nice and everyone is just looking out for themselves. This game amazes me on this point, because it's so much like real life. The community is the only thing that keep's the game alive, without it this game sucks. And if you don't get involved in the politics through a guild you will hate the game. Because there's really nothing besides trying to earn yourself personal power, and respect. I say the community is great, but don't get me wrong, I hate 90% of the people who play RV because they're backstabbing bastards. To be honest you can't be a casual gamer in RV, it doesn't really work like that. I've been in many wars, and because me and my faction (both of us ) are always the underdogs. So we play the political game. It's a shame that politics are handled over the forums and our IRC channel, though. Maybe when we get pubs to socialise in, maybe one day when RV is closed to be finished, when the community is large and you just can't handle business over the forums or IRC, we can strike deals and strike friends ingame only.
RV is a game for the hardcore gamer who doesn't care about other people. RV succeeds in one thing, and that is recreating the corruption, violance and hatred between people that exists today, in real life, and existed almost two thousand years ago.
I trust one person in RV, the rest I'm not sure over.
Concerning the ten procent of the community I don't hate; they are the goodguys. Because like in real life some people are just nice. They look after their fellow man, help them out and offer them advice. I'm very thankful for those few people, they've saved me from many messes and I owe them my virtual life, which is taking up a too large part of my real life.
If you liked my short... whatever it was... If you're a bastard, politician, or anything inbetween, and really like social interaction on a scary scale, you'll like RV. But if you don't read the forums, don't get involved with the community you will hate it. Because without what I above have been talking about RV is nothing but an ugly, static, dumb world with nothing at all to offer.
What LB is trying to say in the above post is that, As a new player you want to read whats been going on and what is going on.. As far as wars go... For example during a war in erring which is the base board of new Barb players... These new players would spawn and the first thing they were asked is who is your oath too!!! These people didnt even know what the hell was going on, and the "Grifers" ended up killing most of them for not answering... This drove a few players off of RV and a few to the other side .... Since then with all the vet players complainign about these damn Griefers its not been happening like that anymore...
But moral of the story is to get involved and at least know what is happening around you, JUST LIKE REAL LIFE... You watch the news to know what is happening where you live? Now the one thing i dont agree with with LB post is about the casual gamer... You can be if you stick to a role in which you have dreams about... You can be a solo player and really get along with many but not be with them, as well as trades and so on... now the only thing you wil have problem with is if you get yosuerlf into a war on your own... well then 1 vs however many...
If u want to be part of a game which is differnt then any out there, RV is where that is... Dont let the first hard 15 mins get the best of you... Honestly i think it takes about 2 weeks to get used to everything including whats going on around you... If you are interested in joining a guild/community read up on the roleplaying forums and see if any of them interest you, If u start off as a new player part of a guild/community in under a week you can be caught up with everything thats going on as well as the gameplay.... Im going to post Pics of some activity thats been going on in one the other posts...
