Okay, since i tried out every other mmorpg i might as well try this one out, i can't believe i wasted my money on this. Here's 5 reasons why you should wait until this game makes it outta, "must have been programmed by a 12yr old AOL'r phase"

1 ) All the textures in this game are like real life photos skinned onto 3d models.

2) Your first mission makes you look for a NPC you dont even know your supposed to go see, then when he sends you on a quest you have to go find a NPC with no directions. I was told it's out in this outpost about 2km away, too bad i had to stop and rest every 10 sec.

3) I didnt find no damn tailor, but i founda  thong dealer!

4) Umm I think these floating weeds are a field...

SERIOUSLY, This game is so retarded, This isnt even a game, maybe a tech demo. lol.

did you have to pay to try the game out?

I would love to try the game, but I wont pay money to see if I like it.

Wow these kinds of failures make A Tale in the Desert seem like a masterpiece.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

Yes, I hate those grey skies from the first screenshot. You can make it look a bit better by changing your screen's colors and gamma (in Windows control panels somewhere).

ATiTD proves that small companies (independents) can actually make a game that proximates a finished product. There's only like 4-5 guys on their team too.

    My turn =P

phennexion how high did you set your stamina and agility when creating your character? That will greatly affect your running capability. Also you start off unfit, you need to train like any runner would, don't expect to be a Khalid Khannouchi over night.

as for the tailor..you would never find him...there is no tailor_merchant. Did you read the scroll that said go to the hide_a_merchant  or hide_scrap merchant? Second, did oyu ask someone where the merchant was? If you were by the thong merchant then you were in the right place, just had to look around a bit more.

Wow, yet another person who has seen and experienced about 0.2% of the game and then comes straight to these forums to bash it.

I started off with the slider at about 60% Stamina.

Okay I can see that you start off unfit, thats cool. I like that idea. But my guys about as fit as a 500lb couch potato D&D player. SERIOUSLY, even walking drains my stamina.

I've seen about 0.2% of the game, probabaly. But the fact is, how can you justify a game with floating plants? With NPC's that aernt properly names, or justify quests that you don't even know your supposed to do or where to go?

I'd Looove to play this game, it looks really complex and good! Just too damn bad that the leaves in the forest are horribly done and cause my X1900XTX to even grind to 2fps.

They use freakin real life people's pictures of people's faces for avatar's faces.

They halfassed textured and 3d modeled the game, even I can do a better job texturing.

  • grenkalgrenkal Member Posts: 58

Right, the main point is that RV falls down on the execution of the project.

The ideas are great, the concepts and plans for the game are very good but at the current time, and remember this is post launch, the execution of those ideas is very very poor.

Its no good being nice on paper and promising millions of great features if they dont ever get properly done. Of course this is an MMORG and so is always WIP but that should be for improving and expanding an already releasable game, this does not fit into that category at all.

The delays on the new features (the ones which were promised to be in at launch, like large playareas or animals) are not a good sign either. They are working flat out to produce this, what makes you think its going to get any better any time soon? It's not like there is any slack or they have been taking it easy and are now starting to knuckle down to it again.

I am starting to think the execution of this project in a complete, timely and professionally produced way is beyond this small team of devs, perhaps they should have taken the concept to a larger dev company, it is a shame to waste some of the good ideas they have.

It's to help you get into the community, by telling you go to the tailor you are supposed to be like..uh...where is the tailor...hey maybe that guy knows....this way you start to become part of the communtiy and maybe gain afraid, cuz there is a chance by asking that person where the tailor is he will give you some skills, thats what I used to do...then again that was also a recruitment tactic.

You were given a link to the RV Wiki when you bought the game.  Here is the link for the section in the Wiki that guides you through the Attending quests:

    Attending

The attending quests are designed to teach you the mechanics of the game while also giving you a chance to skill up in certain areas. Ask other players in game for help if you need it.  Most people do not finish all the quests and get unattended by the magistrate or lord.

If you're really hung up on the graphics which most will agree are not very good, then this game is not for you.  If you can look past the graphics and see the unlimited role playing/simulation possibilities this game design offers, then you won't be dissapointed.

A stamina of 60 is below average for most players but certainly playable.  You have a very long road ahead to increasing your marching and running skills as well as fitness, but you can get to a point where you can walk continously without resting and can run a few hundred meters without resting.

By the way, you started the game in Erring.  You may not know it, but the Lord of Erring was assassinated and a new King, which many are calling illegitmate, has taken over and has allied with the Romans.  A strong barbarian faction from the west is trying to take down this new king.  Interesting times in RV.

oh snap, new lord has taken over, that explains the floating grass.

BTW I liked Tale in the Desert, I wasnt bashing the game, I just dont like the fact stuff gets reset in it.

Graphics are not the main problem everyone has with this game. It's the FACT the game is not Release quality. It is in FACT unfinished.

and to the OP...thanks for your first 10 min impression of RV...please come back when you have done more than the equivlent of bashing giant rats.

    What do you mean reset?

lol, I don't know if you guys are getting paid to say good things about this game, or what, cause I saw Virtus's name in a screenshot in the main site.

I don't understand why you guys are justifying such a horrible excuse for a "final" release version of a game. If anything this all smells like a scam and people on the forums here are paid by redbedlam to quench down the fires by ignoring the facts and contradicting the truths. Watch redbedlam just abandon the game they've worked on for what seems like 2 months (judging by the games quality) and walk away with thousands and thousands of dollars.

  • siredmondsiredmond Member Posts: 122
I dont know about you but from what I know a Final Release wont come soon. Remember Like eve, this game is always evolving. Unlike eve however is that eve has had more time to add stuff.

I try to stay uninvolved in direct criticism of the game around here but I got to say that was a good one.

Don't stop now OP, you still got clay piles to make! You don't want to be one of those "bad players that attending weeds out" do you? At least that's what I was told was it's purpose by some zealous fan when I suggested on their forums it be removed and replaced with a short, hand held tutorial.

And you only got four reasons, not five.

How does this smell like a scam? I dont even know how to reply to that to answer you

As for why people still support this game...there is alot more to it than the people who come on here crying after playing for 10 min see...most of the supporters 'get' the vision that RB has delivered on, and would like to see the rest.

As for being shills, considering even employees of the company are barley getting paid, I doubt they are paying shills.

please list what facts have been contradicted, or facts ignored?

How does someone exaggerate floating grass? It wasn't really floating THAT much, just a little bit?

In that screenshot you really can't see the bottom of the plant as being not attached to the earth. Hate to split hairs on something that really doesn't matter, but the screenshot really doesn't show them floating.

Just because you played the game for an hour and think it is a joke doesn't make you right. Nor does playing it for a year and thinking it rocks. It's just your opinion. If it's not for you, fine. But even I am getting sick of 10 minute players coming on here to high five other bedwetters as they diss a very ambitious game made by an unestablished gaming house.

I hate to say it, I really do, but just go play WoW.

Careful man, you're slipping dangerously close to Sep territory. You know you don't want to go down that road, you're too good for that.
