So reading the News today and had this dreadful feeling that ship prices are going to be going up From this
Article it seems that ASCN and BoB are beginning to gear up for war. So any comments on what the effects are going to be over the next few weeks if this does turn into a full hot war?
Comments
From what I have heard, neither side have any ambitions to conquer the other. They are really just fighting 'for the sake of war'. ASCN and BoB have done this often, but on a smaller scale. For some reason (probably because of the announcement of the Titan) they have upped the anty. We'll just have to see how it plays out - it may turn big, but I doubt it will turn brutal. It will be hard to dethrone the Great Northern War from those rights.
I can't see this being even a remote possibility. When G built the first Mothership BoB came to destroy G and if not for the help of the ASCN lag blob never would have succeeded. This proved 1 thing. ASCN is the most powerful force in EVE. You can't beat them because you can't move to fight them. Maybe 1 day in the distant future when the servers will allow 1000 people to fight in the same system they could do it but that time isn't today.
Make a difference!
umm BoB and ASCN have been in full scale conflict for about a week now. BoB has picked AZN and GQ2 as their points of interest in Paragon Soul.
On a side note: BoB is a virus - ASCN for the win
Im new to the game, so I havent dared to go far from my home just yet, but I have not the slightest idea who BoB or ASCN is..
Could someone give some history and info on whats going on for thos of us who are noobs?

You need to read histoy of EVE from the beginning starting from the Second Genesis. Most of the core corporations of these alliances originated during Curse Wars. If you really want to know how it all came to pass you need to understand political world of EVE for the last 2 years.
I thought I saw an unusual ammount of BoB and ASCN in Pure Blind... Now I know.. Why doe s it Always have to be the northern regions... WHY!?!? We haven't done anything to nobody.. but noo. FOF/IRON/ISS, we have had PB free for access if your not starter corp or red.. and now we are going to suffer off suite flank attacks against both BoB and ASCN comming through our North border.
I hate You Bob and I hate you ASCN for flooding my ratting system yesterday and not letting me move for 45 minutes..

Eerh, we're fighting in about the southernmost region of Eve...
Ok, let me enlighten you somewhat, I'll try to do it neutrally even tho I'm a longtime member of Evolution, one of the four core corporations of the BoB alliance.
ASCN is a successor alliance formed by parts of the old Xetic (or XIF/XF/whatever it has been named in the two years it existed). I once was a member of one of the original four corporations to found Xetic as well waaaay back in 2003 and as swuch know something of the history of the tradityional Xetic regions (that's more or less all between Stain and Curse regions with exception of Catch region) as well.
ASCN is large, they've got about 4000 characters i their alliance, with sister-alliance AXE havign another 1200 or so. Together they occupy the regions of esoteria, paragon soul, feythabolis and Impass. They've got the largest amount of outposts (player built space stations) of any alliance in Eve with about a 40% margin to the number two in that ranking (BoB and -LV-). They're well knwon for having incredible industrial power and very large fleets. If you'd have to pick the richest alliance of Eve 905 of the players would have no doubt that ASCN would be it.
However, even with all the defensive advantages they have (large numbers, countless POS's protecting sovereignty of their space and the cash to afford enormous losses), they lack military leadership BADLY. Hold that thought and let's look at BoB for a minute.
BoB is made up of five main corps and their industrial sister-corps. The main corps are Reikoku, BNC, Evolution, DICE and TAOSP. All of these corps are ancient and well known within Eve because of their military significance in past and present wars. If you'd be looking for veteran pvp players with a hang for large fights you'd find plenty in this alliance. BoB occupies the regions of Fountain, Delve, Querious and Period Basis. BoB is known as a highly agressive and highly mobile alliance with a heavy emphasis on military power. It has about 1500 members. BoB has destroyed or scattared other alliances in the past on several occasions and is known to be rather ruthless in war. Alot of things are said about us, and I'm not going to repeat them all, suffice to say that most of it's rubbish either way and that we don't really care anyway.
Bob's weak point if I'm to name one at all might be our size. We won't grow much bigger then we are, yet 1500 people is simply not enough to populate much more space then we already hold. We have our ways of dealing with that however. Another weakness is public opinion. Our agressive and "we dont care what you think" stance has made us many enemies amongst other alliances and players (which is a situation we like, it gives you many targets). People have often theorised thata combined effort of many of these enemies could well spell our end. The first group to dare such a thing has yet to come forward however.
Now, the war.
This war is big because of two things.
1. Because BoB has said they would like it to be.
2. Because these are the two strongest entities in Eve.
On one side you've got an alliances with the numbers and the deep pockets that has military power as it's weak point. On the other an alliance of medium size with pockets that may be just as deep but with a military that is most certainly much better led and more experienced then ASCN's.
So far things have been mostly fun and build-up. At this time it's not comparable to the large wars of the past yet. However, as far as I am concerned, that's just a matter of time. Not because we have a particular dislike of ASCN or AXE (the latter we specifically don't dislike seiing how they're not unalike us), but because we're good for a long protracted exhaustive war right now, and ASCN is the most convenient and arguably the best target to choose for it.
Honestly BoB is just a great big paper tiger. They can't really defend all the territory they have. If anyone wanted their territory they could probably take it. They would lose it eventually if BoB turned to fight them, but honestly if you do it enough, and enough people are moving in, it gets awful pointless. But be careful if you get on BoB's bad side, the moment combat gets vicious or BoB cries foul, they have alot of EvE admins in their corp who can abuse their privilages.
I like to think of BoB as a bunch of people with no life, who don't know how to have fun playing a game. Take down one of their capital ships and they'll cry and throw a fit, and try everything in their power to get it replaced by GM's because of 'lag' or a 'bug' or whatever crap they usually make up.
LordVanidor - you really dont have much clue
I've been a member of both Evolution and Reikoku (no longer though) and both corps have my utmost respect - these are players who enjoy risk and enjoy good fights. I learnt more about how to PvP in those two corps than anywhere else. Evolution especially is a corp devoted to fighting, the individual players dont much care about personal wealth, and yet because they all work together, they still are rolling in isk combined
I've heard this BS about admin/GM help etc, but that just because the corps in BoB share knowledge, tactics, etc and work together effectively.
In my eyes they are the real elite of eve.
Why i didn't like them was because i felt like a little cog in a big machine. Its very hard to feel like you are making a real contribution. So I left to do my own thing in much smaller corps. But thanks to what i learnt there i now have a new character who can fly lots of ships without fear, have a couple of billion isk because of some good investments/production, and enjoy the game immesurably.
But honestly, it'll be great to see another real war - hopefully BoB and ASCN will both be weakened enough to let other smaller players get bigger. But probably this will just make the two alliances even more practiced at combat and survival...
Haha, this would be waht I referred to in my earlier post. People posting stuff about us based upon rumours spread by those that can simply not deal with being outperformed in the competitive environment of Eve Online. Eve is largely one big competition for power. Be it resources, people, wealth, reputation or the simple ability to pointalot of guns and shoot them, it all comes down to power.
While alot of folk have the mistaken impression that BoB only uses this power to destroy and not build, and that BoB in reality has no power other then that given to them by use of exploits and GM/DEV preferrential treatment, reality is that it simply comes down to what the above poster said. Our corps are simply the most effectively operating corporations in the game. Combined with size and experience that adds up to alot of power in practice.
But this thread wasn't about us but about the war and it's impact on Eve as a whole.
Well, as you can see alot of people with very little actual involvement form their own opinions about ASCN and BoB. I think the main impact of this war is going to be in the form of the setting of an example. Both alliances involved have set an example in their own way, and even new players in empire are going to be interested in how it all ends. That, and the question of what happens with the corporations and pilots of the losing side. A long war can only end with one of the sides breaking up after all.
This is one of the many shining examples of why admins should not be allowed to hold player accounts. I don't care how much it helps them understand problems or relate to the software and people's needs, it gives them too much of an invested interest and creates the above situations. This is what created the situation that lead to a mass exodus of people from UO to EQ, and it keeps people from wanting to play EvE.
First off BoB is the most influencial alliance in EVE. They are a force beyond all doubt. Having fought several wars with BoB i can testify to their elite prowess with logisitics and combat technique. Thats not to say you can't fight them to a stand still. In my wars with them we have successfully defended and sent them packing. But the thing is they are capable of greater things than any other alliance. Their political expertise combined with all aforementioned abilities puts them over the top. History dictates the greatness of alliances and history speaks many times of the amazing feats of BoB.
I HATE BOB!!! But you can't deny they are a great alliance.
Make a difference!
One can only hope pricess rise. War is good for buisness and if the two big powers are going to duke it out buisness is looking good
Gooo BOB, I heard ascn are recruiting covops to spray paint your ships pink. And they all think your all asteroid humpers
Gooo Ascn, I heard bob have a blow up cyvvok in a balat dancers outfit. outside each of there stations. Oh an they think your all asteroid humpers
that said for the most part thanks for keeping this constructive and not turning into a flame war
I've heard "rumors" alleged agasint both alliances. Some think they both cheat and they both have CS-reps on their payrolls. I personally believe there's no "favortism" taking place. (Ignorance is bliss!)
I would only hope that CCP would *FIX* the damned issue with the servers so both sides can actually slug it out without crashing the nodes!
And death to the humper of rocks!
ROFL!! So true....
It's nice to see that our dedicated fans have also found these forums.
BoB deos not exploit, period. Your allegations of us using that recetn complex exploti is rather ridiculous seeing how the closest suchlike complex is, well, on the other side of the damn Eve map. Only angel cartel 8/10 complexes weer involved, and to my knowledge no BoB memebr ever even ran one of those since we've got perfectly fine and unbugged serpentis 10/10 complexes to run over here.
But yeah, repeat all the nonsense you hear from your fellow fanboys. It's not like ti's going to change anything.
Actually, several BoB members have been running that complex, and I believe are STILL running that complex on a regular basis. The reason why? The complex respawn is broken and enemies repopulate within a few hours instead of once a day. This allows for the making of billions of isk. Only RA has been banned from running the bugged complex. Just because you are not aware of something happening within your alliance does not mean it isn't. And I am not a fanboi of anyone in EvE, I'm just a player trying to enjoy the rich PvP and political environment within EvE.
It is not a rumor that a BoB member named Smoske died in RL, and for some reason saying his name EVEN IN PRIVATE MESSAGES OR CONVERSATIONS is a bannable offense. This is only another of the many examples of favoritism and admin privilage abuses I can think of. You and other BoB members can deny wrongdoing, you can try to tell the community you guys are good for EvE, you can brag and jerk each other off all you want to, but when it comes down to it the BoB alliance has some very questionable pull with admins which have lead to their success.
It is every noob's right to know that the admins in this game are corrupt, and that at some point in their EvE career they may be subject to unfair banning, or worse.

sorry I'm positive to BoB alliance too... I like yes, but what he says is true

Bob don't cheat. Never have when I've gone up against them and probably never will. The GM's and admins amongst them will keep them honest and give stern lectures where necessary. Anyone who breaks the rules badly would probably be kicked from the alliance. But by the same token, don't try any exploit when you are going against them. Your chances of being caught by a GM are significantly higher. Fight Bob in the spirit of the game and you have nothing to fear.
So here's my take from a distant observers point of view who can only try and read between the lines when Bob aren't spamming the forums.
Bob are after fame and glory on the battlefield. They want bragging rights. ASCN are responding by laying seige to systems in Bob space. So my initial view is that Bob are concentrating on winning the battles while ASCN have their eye on winning the war. Bob may win if ASCN respond only with Bob's tactics but they aren't. ASCN are avoiding contact where possible (Bob's strength) and laying seige to systems in Bob's territory where ASCN can (ASCN's strength). That will wear on Bob the longer this war goes on.
The fun bit starts when both sides start to tire and vultures start to circle (3rd party corps look for short term fun and territory). They will come from each sides blind side. Bob have to hope more than ASCN that no reasonably strong 3rd party makes a play. Bob more so than ASCN can't fight a full war on 2 sides. ASCN's dilemma is that they appear weaker mostly thanks to Bob's spam so opportunists may be more inclinded to go after them.
Either way, neither alliance may ever recover what they currently have and both will be much weaker as a reult.
I should get in my covert ops ship and start making pop-corn.
Cheers
