What Turbine needs to do is stick with the original ideas of Asheron's Call and improve on them excluding their mistakes from the games second installment. Also they need to take a look at other successful MMORPGs, especially World of Warcraft(which they have already). And instead of just trying something that's an extreme risk, what they need to do is bring back story to this genre. With Asheron's Call the game told a tale through live events. I think that's what most of these games are missing. Having GMs and the developer team play specially made avatars as enemies and heroes was absolutely awesome. And using them to interact with the players in a dynamic changing world was amazing. Why hasn't any other MMORPG picked up on something like this(there have been a hand full)?
I know a lot of us who played WoW during the Forsaken event a few months ago were expecting a little bit more. I think Blizzard had something going, but in my opinion Turbine could have done an event like that 10 times better. But then again Turbine needs to work on creating another great game first.

Pretty sure the majority of those who actually played AC -still- think it was one of the greatest MMOs of all time. I know I do. Granted, the current state of the game is terrible because of what Turbine did to it. But the way they did things in the game, is IMO the best ever.
From the story-line, to the skill-based system, to the sandbox non-raid oriented system, to the PvP and the questing system. Until this past year, not once did they even have a 'kill X number of these mobs' quest. I wish another company would do things in a similar way instead of everyone going with a class-based raid-oriented game. Turbine -was- a great company. Unfortunately, most of the original team no longer exists as a part of the company and that is why they can't put out a good game.
The fact that AC is still around is enough of a statement. Granted, I'll say it again.. the game in its current state is nothing compared to how it used to be. Were it still as it was two or more years ago, I and many others would still be playing it.
Turbine is now a rubberband propeller.

True and DDO flopped and don't be surprised if LoTR sells a lot of boxes but 3-6 months later the servers are empty.
I say this because it has no freedom its very linear like DDO is you do this quest this quest and this quest and then move on to this area...how fun is it to be told where the fuck to go?
Not very fun I must say~! Let me run into the lvl 60 areas let me die 4000x times if I'm that retarded let me do what I wish. Don't hold my hand and tell me where to go. Don't walk me step by step through your world...gay gay gay
MMO's these days cater to the mentally challenged and/or the 8-13 year olds.

I'm 13, and I personally think the current crop of MMOs is about as fun as Dark and Light, which is why I'm playing The Realm now.
I personally really liked Sierra's Middle Earth Online ideas, but having looked at LotRO in a lot if detail, it doesn't interest me at all.
