After spending a significant time "in world" over the last 8 months, I have left Second Life.
Why?
1) Lots of bugs and downtime.
2) Horrid customer support.
3) Absolutely no safeguards to keep children from accessing the rediculous amount of adult material in SL.
It's a waste of money and time. Could have been a good thing if it wasn't such a bad one.

I agree that those under 17 should not be playing. This is not a game for closed minded people who cannot accept others who may be different from themselves.
I love the creativity and open mindedness found in this online experience. If you like to make and to create things then this is the online experience for you. If you like to see what others create and are curious about people different from you then this is the online experience for you as well.
My problem with the game is that it's too laggy. Trying to move your character around is like fighting lag in a winner-takes-all deathmatch. And going into new zones pretty much freezes the client until it can load all the textures. And although this is just a pet peeve, I don't like how I have to examine objects to download the actual texture instead of a compressed version. Although I can understand the limitations of technology and why they had to implement it like that, I don't like how I have to look at nearly every object just to see what it really is instead of an ugly block of mixed colors.
I've got to agree with Drenneth on the customer service in SL. I'm a member of a group of four who pay over 200 bucks a month for our use of the game and land tier. We cant get the Lindens (employees working in second life) to answer a single question nor can we get them to help us with any technical issues. The game has a ton of bugs
and alot of down time. I love second life but it is run by a bunch of monkeys with thier heads up thier asses and residents/customers concerns and interests are ALWAYS ignored often hanging those of us paying good money for this game out to dry. Now in the latest of many Linden Labs customer relation disasters (wont even mention the database holding everyones personal info including cc #'s being hacked) Torley Linden admitted openly that after the forums are taken down and switched over to the Linden Blog that posts, wether offensive/abusive or not, that dont agree with Linden Labs twisted spin on things will be removed and disciplinary action will likely be taken against the "offender" up to and including termination of accounts. I'm not saying stay away from SL because I love the game and would be awesome to see it grow and thrive but rather saying be wary and dont go dumping alot of time and money into the game right off until the people in "charge" pull thier heads outta thier asses and realize that this is not just a company but also a community and its customers should be treated as residents and thier concerns adressed. I personally would have left the game by now had I not invested so much time, money, sweat and tears into it. anyways my first day on this site and ranting already...I'll spare ya'll anymore
