Wow not so WOW?

hey people, as some of you might know im still on the look out for good MMOs. i put world of warcraft high on my list. I went to youtube, googled images, read reviews, went to the main site. Seems like a really good game. Then im sitting here hearing all this WoW bashing, so my FIRST question for you is IS WORLD OF WARCRAFT REALLY THAT BAD OF A GAME?

FOR YOU RAWKIN MMO ADVISORS(no low-lives,also these are not in orde):

  • i like tons of nice, talkative people.
  • EXTREAMLY EXTENSIVE CHARECTER CREATION! i want to desing your face, eyes, hight, hair color, hair do, skin color, body, EVREYTHING. (guild wars gave me this the most so far) diverese classes and armor.
  • good graphix would help me getting it, i don't really care unless its disturbingly bad like worst then runescape.
  • im really looking for summoning, having a crave over that.
  • MUST BE FANTASY! I HATE SI FI! (i really REALLY gave EVE and anarchy a chance)
  • i like GvG seiging, PvP, teaming, helping ect. group related activities.
  • i like events, and promt up-dates. Like in GW and runescape on X-mas there was a event.
  • i don't mind, getting expansions, but it has to be worth it. I don't want a small expansion for 20$ and it have nothing then two months later another Expansion.
  • LAG FREE!!!!!!

GAMES I HAVE PLAYED/TRIED:

  • Runescape
  • guild wars
  • Dark age of camolot
  • dragon fable
  • habo hotel. ( for like half an hour... )

GAMES I AM CONSIDERING OF GETTING:

  • world of warcraft
  • Everquest 2
  • Guild wars factions
  • warhammer: age of recoking
  • vanguard: sage of Heros ( might be bumped off my list )

wurmonline if you can stand the crafting, world building, town building, and the awesome community.  the downside to most game players is that its first person, combat is downplayed, and animations aren't due till a few months from now.

edit:  and like wow, this isn't chat its forums.  so its not like instant.  so bringing your above post to mind i'd say WoW for you

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

  • bizounce10bizounce10 Member Posts: 101
cool, ill cheak em out. Anyother comments? or suggestions?
  • RuthgarRuthgar Member Posts: 730

Not WoW, nothing of what you want in a game is in WoW. (well there is PvP and grouping, but that's about it).

  • paulscottpaulscott Member Posts: 5,613

yes wurmonline sucks if you're gonna grind 1 skill for no reason other than to grind.  and it plays VERY SLOW

oh and i only suggested WoW as a joke due to his impatience.

but i'm out for now.... stupid homework

WoW is a good game, no offense but why you dont go and download the trial and look yourself if you like it or not ?

    But I can tell ya...

If you dont like raids then you will have a problem at the endgame
cause this game is made for all the raid lovers there is no other
content besides a bit of PvP ...

On the other hand even if you dont like to raid you can have some fun
with making new chars until a better game is coming out. But if you
want to play it more "serious" for like a few years and dont like just
raids then this game isnt for you.

I would wait for Gods & Heroes this game will rock any game out of
the water even Vanguard which will be good too wont compete against it,
I really think Gods & Heroes will be a secret blockbuster :P Heck I
think even Warhammer wont be so good as Gods & Heroes.

    But thats just my opinion.

i think you should try the 14 day trial of wow and judge for your self , people are too brain washed by many factors. good or bad is very relative , it depends on personal experience.

im loving posting this link ::::02:: , dont take this as a flame , i love the music and the clip as a whole.

PvP in WoW?!  What are you talking about?  Any real MMORPG gamer wouldn't refer to WoW's battle grounds as PvP.

No, WoW does not consist of any PvP, and on the PvP servers the PvP is bare minimum(only seperate factions can battle and you don't lose anything by dying).  A lot of grouping, you are correct on that issue.

Don't be silly. I am SO romantic.
In fact, sometimes it makes my husband a wee bit uncomfortable since
he's such a grumpy old Scot. I make sure I get a hug even when he just
runs out to pick up a pizza. But... that was not romantic at all in my

    1) There are tons of talkative people.  Quite a few nice, quite a few not.  Barrens chat is the worst (you'll see what I mean).  However, it's not hard to get in a guild with a nice bunch of people.

    2) Character creation isn't that special.  It's alright, but not on par with something like City Of Heroes/Villains.  Guild Wars' character creation wasn't that great either really, IMO.

    3) The graphics grow on you.  I was worried at first too, but I found them perfectly acceptable.  Animations are generally well done.

    4) Only one summoner class (Warlock).  Not nearly the variety of a game like DAoC.  I never played a 'lock, so I can't say how fun it is in WoW.

    5) It's typical fantasy.  The Gnomes and Goblins have some high-tech stuff though.  ;)

    6) Nothing in the way of GvG sieging, and I really didn't care for the PvP, which was largely meaningless.  I enjoyed some of the world PvP when both sides were near equal, but world PvP didn't happen often, and was mostly lopsided.

    7) WoW has events, with some pretty cool items/pets to be had.  Better than Guild Wars.

    8) Burning Crusade will be their first pay update.  They add lots of content for free (free if you don't count the monthly fee I guess) quite frequently.

    9) It's certainly not lag free.  Some servers are terrible, while others are decent.  Visit the server forums before deciding on one for your character(s).

Should you get the game?  I'd say yes.  It can be a lot of fun, from levels 1-58 or so anyway.  There are some challenges once you hit max level, but don't expect a commensurate reward (other than the satisfaction of completing them).

ok , my bad judgment , sorry about that ..

its wierd becose its meant to be , imo

i like the melodie of the music , and i think the singers are good too , the lyrics are pure humur.

the whole clip is to make fun of the whole online situation , i have meet girls online , i knew i wasnt going on a date with her ever beside online. but we did have our moments alone , sometimes for very long time , just like in that clip.

yes its wierd , but a lot of people are doing it , we are humans , doesnt matter the media , flirt will always be in life.

of corse the kissing the screen is a joke and the end of the scene of him being ashamed of the situation , but its real.

for me that clip , besides being a joke , its shows the power of online games in terms of human realtions.

virtual yes , but real also.

All the games you played (except DAoC, and i'm guessing you quit it
because it was to hard.) are simple to play, simple to master and are
good for noobs. You'll love WoW.

im going to vote vanguard for the following reasons:

i like tons of nice, talkative people, don't mean to sound noobish but runescape and guild wars has sutied me well on this sections. obviously noone can really be sure on this yet since its not out, however from what ive seen at the vanguard forums/fan site forums have left me with a generally friendly and mature community.

EXTREAMLY EXTENSIVE CHARECTER CREATION! i want to desing your face, eyes, hight, hair color, hair do, skin color, body, EVREYTHING. (guild wars gave me this the most so far) diverese classes and armor. It doesnt get any better than vanguard here, take a look here: http://vg.crgaming.com/viewarticle.asp?Article=11112, theres a few videos showing it off, even though the videos are from early beta, the range of options still look to be far greater than any other game i have seen

good graphix would help me getting it, i don't really care unless its disturbingly bad like worst then runescape. doesn't get much better than vanguard here either IMO, even in beta its looking much better than anything ive seen.

im really looking for summoning, having a crave over that. i believe vanguard will have one main summoning class; the necromancer, i think a few of the other classes get summoning abilities aswell. (i think most of the games you listed also have this though)

MUST BE FANTASY! I HATE SI FI! (i really REALLY gave EVE and anarchy a chance) yup, vanguard is going to be 100% pure immersive fantasyimage

i like GvG seiging, PvP, teaming, helping ect. group related activities. there will be several pvp servers, i dont think much has been released on how they will work yet though, and for teaming/group related activities, 60% of the content will for groups, with about 20% for soloing and 20% for raiding (from what ive heard)

i like events, and promt up-dates. Like in GW and runescape on X-mas there was a event. its been stated that GM's will be very active in the community (so much so that they have been written into the lore) and there will be GM events, however so do most of the other games you mentioned aswell, we'll just have to wait and see how far they take it in vanguardimage

i don't mind, getting expansions, but it has to be worth it. I don't want a small expansion for 20$ and it have nothing then two months later another Expansion. I havent seen much on this, there will be expansions obviously, once again we'll just have to wait and see how far they take them.

LAG FREE!!!!!! well that all depends on how good your pc isimage

the main problem is that its not going to be released until Q1 of 2007, but heres hoping that the wait will be worth it!image

get Phantasy Star Universe if you want bad ass hack n slash action, player housing, player vehicles, and original monsters/classes/races in a sci-fi world. No forced raid. You can play casual, you can play hardcore. You can ultimately have fun, and not obsess over "OMGZ EPIXX11!!"

Bah, exploding sheep and mechanical chickens, not to mention zeppelins that couldnt possibly support their own weight. The "technology" in WOW is the biggest joke i've ever seen.

    To OP:

Nice talkative people and extensive character customization, just looking at this, I WOULD have said WOW isnt for you. But if Guild Wars worked out along these lines, WOW should as well.

World of Warcraft had nice, smooth, high detail graphics. However, if your a nitpicker like me, it'l drive you nuts. Planks of wood in a wall are as high as a man, with nails big enough you would need a large battering ram to drive them in. The armor is impressive in its own way I suppose, but some of it your character looks like he ought to be lying on the ground, unable to move at all. To me, it felt like I was playing in a cartoon the entire time. I personally much prefer gritty, realistic graphic designs.

WoW's Warlock class is the only summoner, its all right, even if pet controll is limited.

Most people who profess they like GvG and/or PvP do not like the PvP options in World of Warcraft.

WOW is pretty good about holiday events and updates, even if their customer service is... lacking elsewhere

Expansions, based on that, you probably wont like Everquest, that thing is paid expansion city.

Lag free, pretty much all the pay to play titles are lag free... IF you have a machine more than capable of handling the strain in crowded areas. As a general rule of thumb, take the reccomended CPU and Graphics requirements, and triple them, only then can you say you wont get any lag anywhere.

If you dont think you will mind the above issues I mentioned, WOW just might work out for you. If not, the only game I am aware of that truly fits your list of requirements, is Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, which is out next year. (Its based on the books, not the Ahnold movie)

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

God... okay, get WoW, it IS your game, believe me, you played runescape, you played GW, you liked them, you'll like WoW... trust me!
Playing yet unreleased games isn't possible anyways and as you found GW nice-talking-peopleish and customizable, play WoW, WoW was MADE for guys like you. The guys that are bashing WoW have played EQ, or SWG Pre-CU, or UO or stuff alike, thats why they hate WoW...

...again, play WoW, its your game, I'm taking a bet on this anytime

Thats bullshit, get your facts right. WoW has PVP, end of discussion "but GL, you don't lose any stuff!!11" so what? "It makes PVP pointless" no seriously, so what? as long as its fun.

    9 Dragons.

WoW is the MacD's of the MMO world. Mass produced pulp to keep the masses happy on a bad diet that's not really good for you. 1-59 WoW is a fun game. 60 it's simply grind after grind after grind. To pvp in wow with any real sucess ie not get 1 shotted, especially at this late stage of the game, you need to pve to get your gear. WoW pvp is all about the gear. Any search for WoW pvp lol on youtube should show you that.

Coming from GW's would be interesting to see what your take on WoW would be. GL...me though I'd hold out for 9 dragons.

  • skrowlskrowl Member UncommonPosts: 7
Don't bother getting WoW if you want PvP.  The PvP in WoW, even on a PvP server, occurs primarily in a seperate area that has no impact on the rest of the game world.  PvP in WoW is kind of like a little island that you teleport to in order to have a battle, then you come back to the mainland afterwards and your PvP had no effect other than to boost your 'honor'.  It's of no benefit to the horde / alliance that you play for, despite them supposedly being at war.

PvP outside of battlegrounds gives around 5% of the 'honor' that battlegrounds give, so the only PvP you tend to see outside of battlegrounds comes from griefers ganking level 20s.

WoW is the market leader because it's so accessible to many people who don't fit the traditional 'gamer' mold.  From it's hand-holding quests leading you up to the top level, to it's easily mastered combat system, WoW is all about accessibility.

WoW can definitely be a fun game, but if you're thinking of getting it because you like PvP.... you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

All I can say is that WoW was once a great game, but unfortunately it has been ruined bythe lack of things to do once the cap is reached...

PvP is only so-so and raiding needs a good guild... Good guild needs good gear.... Good gear needs decent raids.. Etc!

I have been playing WoW for a fair while now, I just tried Archlord whcih a little to "unrefined" for my liking, and I didn't like the way potions formed a big part of PvP :S However, AL led me to stumble upon Lineage II which is AMAZING. Decent gfx (which are being updated constantly), awsome hardcore PvP, good class differences and character creation.. Bit of a "grind" but other than
that its brill! And with having a "soft" lvl-cap you dont end up in the same situation as WoW has got too..
