Carpe Diem Daily Journal Day 1

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/1029459/thread/99640#1029459 Day 2

Day 1

I start the game, and after a short loading time I’m into the loggin zone. It looks very nice, on the left you see some Carpe Diem art, and on the left, a story, about you. I decide to read the story, maybe it contains some useful information.

Home...

You have wandered many places in your young life but now your footstetps have returned home...

However, things seem wrong. The land is not as you left it.

In a deserted little inn, on the final night outside your birthplace, you hear a strange story. Uzziel, the King’s most trusted advisor, betrayed him. He tried to overthrow the King and rule in his place. But when this treachery was exposed, Uzziel fled before he could be captured.

But now it seems that he is back, and with a power to summon monsters that is unmatched in all the ages. Both Kingdoms are flooded with his evil creatures. Some, malevolent, will attack anyone they see, others, soared of warriors, will not attack armed people but still destroy crops and livestock.

The innkeeper sighs, ‘’The gossip is that he has  declared war and will not rest until all who live here are dead. I hear that King David is sending his Regiments in search of the weapons of legend. The legends say that any evil must face the weapons in open battle, but only if one Regiment proves itself worthy to carry all four. Crazy if you ask me.”

The scope of this conflict seems as clear to you as one of Gilead’s crystal streams. If Uzziel can succeed in summoning enough monsters he wil overun both Kingdoms and take the thrones. But if you can find one Regiment worthy to carry the weapons of legend then there may be a way to defeat his evil.

Your childhood was full of stories of the weapons of legend. A distant memory stirs your brain...

You know why you have come home.

Wow, that was one nice story. I already know that the storyline is allright, and I know who I am. What do I do know? Oh, yes, ofcourse, this was the loggin screen, totally forgot while reading this great story. When I log in, I see the server list, and there is one server, called Swords, and that server contains a subserver, called Broadsword. I click on the Broadsword icon and press OK. Let’s go to my characters!

Now I’m connected, and I see 3 character slots, actually this dissapoints me a little, because I like it to have many characters, anyway, let’s create one. I can choose a Human, Fey or Dragonblood. The Fey is a little fairy and the Dragonblood a half dragon. The Fey is tiny, cute, with little wings, and the Dragonblood is big, not cute, and has horns. In the most games I choose cute, most of the time female, characters, but now I go for the Dragonblood, I want to be the strong guy now! So I click on the Dragonblood, and enter the game, what shall the world bring me?

I’m standing in a city made from big grey rocks, when I walk, I hear my two feet on the stones, the same with grass, only another sound. I move the camera, holding my center mouse button, it goes smooth and easy, and I can zoom out very far, that will help me when I need to overlook the city. I walk to the center and talk to the first NPC I see. She explains me something, and I move on. But first, what are the  hotkeys? I guess the normal ones, I press ‘I’, and yes, I see my inventory, I press ‘Q’ and I see my quests. After a while I know all the buttons. Shall I go hunting some animals, or take a closer look to the city, or start my starter quest. I decide to walk around the city. While I’m walking, I see stairs leading to a higer level, and I see some NPCs. I talk to them, and after like 5 minutes, I’m done, the city is quite big, and maze-like when you are there the first time. Well, now it’s time for the quest, but I don’t have one yet, well, then I shall kill some monsters.

I enter the Valley of Blood and I see a sober area, full of black and greay rocks, dirt, and some trees. I also see Cyclops, flying monsters with a big eye, these guys are the level 1 monsters. I attack one and after a short fight he’s dead, and I’m leveled up. I see alot of information popping up. It’s about what to do now, I take a quick look and click it away. Let’s upgrade my char.

I press on C, for the character info and upgrade my dexterity and strength with my stat points.

After some more hunting, leveling and questing (talking, and killing monsters for extra money and exp). I ended the game, but I was happy.

Thanks for the info.  I am watching this game with some interest.  Kind of strange though that Direct2Drive already has it for presale.  Doubt I will preorder it but when it goes live I might well try it out.  Keep us informed. Thanks.

LOL the game consists of boxes filled with monsters, it's very ghetto if you ask me, and you aren't :)

I knew this guy was a fanboi of carpe diem from his very first comment.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

What the hell? I'm not a Carpe Diem fanboy, but it's a pretty good game. The graphics aren't very good and stuff, but this was the first day I played so I only noticed the good things, the game offers you many options, it's a pretty good game, have you evver played it yourself?

Oh yeah ? What many options would that be , do tell. Yes I played it.  Graphics aren't good, sadly the game suffers from the f2p syndrome, except that it's p2p !!! Game world is horribly small, there is only one type of ridable per race, only 2 races(everyone gets one fast).  Characters pretty much all look the same, grinding in small clastrophobic cavernous boxes. Lack of features all around.  Armor sets for levels 1-20+, 1. FTL

You can craft alot, make alot of things, yes the map is kinda' small, but it's also a closed beta. Many things need to be upgraded to make it P2P worthy, but I'm enjoying the game.

Is it a great game? Hell no!

Is it a good game, yes.

    So please...

If it was a f2p it would be good. By p2p standards it is bad.  None of the flaws I mentioned have anything to do with it being in BETA.

I played Carpe Diem for all of 2 nights and uninstalled it. It's pretty darn terrible.

Carpe Diem is modeled almost exactly after legions of Korean MMOs and the worst part is that the Korean MMOs are 100x better.

Got to say i cant agree more, but dont dare mention it in-game, there are some die hard fanboys who will leap on you with the usual 'potential' and 'it gets better at higher levels' excuses for poor and greedy development.

With people like this willing to hand over money so readily for sub-average games, its no wonder the current MMO market is lacking any innovation and flooded with poor quality titles.
