I have owned every release of EA's Battlefield series since BF:1942 thru BF:2142 (so yes I have owned all of them). BF:1942 was an amazing game. It did a lot to revolutionize the FPS arena. Unfortunely EA has done little to keep up the quality product that started the series. BF:Nam was nothing more than a glorified mod, BF2 had far too many issues (the browser issues for example) and now we have BF:2142.
When I first saw the trailer for BF:2142 I was like ZomgMechsFTWBBQPEWPEW. I thought finally EA had decided to ramp up the development on a true followup to the orignal BF:1942.
I was wrong. Once again EA has done little more than release a mod. This time a mod of BF2. Sure the unlock system is improved and the browser system is improved. And yes there is the new Titan mode. But the game feels like BF2 with different skins.

pretty bad, and it only gets worse with each succesive patch.
The second I saw BF2142, I knew it was going to be bad. It looked
exactly like BF2, except it had uglier enviroments. I hate the unlock
system to, its just stupid in my opinion.
Dont think im just a big hater though, I loved BF1942, its just too bad the series only gets worse with each new release.
Ive been playing BF2 for almost 12 months solid and I played about 4 Beta builds of 2142.
I preordered it about 3 months ago. Then cancelled about 2 weeks ago. The last demo version basically convinced me not to buy it. I wrote a big thing on it in the Pub the other day so Im not gonna re-write my 1 page review.
But lets just say.... dissapointed.

Well....I was wrong. They physics are poor, the sounds are
retarded(oppinion), the movement is choppy, the vehicles are to
powerful, the kits are imbalanced, it's dumbed down and easier, and
everyone looks the same...I teamkilled like 10 people on accident on my
first day.
I've played BF2 since it came out and loved it every day, I got pro at
it. Now EA realses this; with rediculously good vehicles and
guns...(yeah the PKM and G3 are o/ped in BF2 but still it's only 2
guns.)
all seems like to me is spray and pray...so no thanks. Maybe if they
fix some things in the next patch that makes it more desirable i'd buy
it.
I've only played the demo...the game itself must be even worse.
what is wrong with you, BF2 is much better then 1942. It has more guns,
it's more challenging, there's more stuff to do...and patches didn't
ruin it AT ALL. It made a few guns really good..wow.
Not worse, just not better either.

I too have Tk'd way more in this game by accident than any of the other BF games.
I don't care for the packs really either. And as you mentioned unless you are in a vehicle you are pretty much screwed.

Vehicles in all the battlefield games have been a tad to powerful, in my oppinion. But this just completely over does it.
Unless you spawned AT (waaaay to weak in BF2142) you can't do
anything about it unless you throw some grenades and pray for
backup/arti/planes.
Buggy, no talent artillery, maybe 3 good maps (how many times can you play Karkand) while the rest totally blow, unbalanced vehicles that make you feel like your infantry weapons were made by Hasbro, ridiculously powerful planes that even the most simpleminded of people can rack up a ton of points, walking baby factory squad leaders that spit out troops, completely useless voting feature, and patches that fix something obvious and destroy something else. Oh yeah, Bf2 is great.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

BF2 isn't buggy....artillery is a realistic part of warfare, in my oppinion all the maps are good except Sweeper, tanks
beat infantry in every FPS, planes take skill to fly and you'd know
that if you actually played the game, the walking baby thing I agree
with but it is a great feature for teamwork, the voting feature is
useless..but that dosen't make or break a game..and everyone is a cry
baby about the patches...if you stop playing BF2 because they made the
PKM good or something, then that is just sad.

Thats
great that you like BF2, however, note how I said its a terrible game.
I really dont care what you think about it, in my opinion its a bad
game. I dont care how many guns it has, when they all have unrealistic
accuracy and damage. Youre supposed to be an experienced and trained
soldier yet the guns handle like youre an infant with a shotgun. And if
youre counting the stock weapons give me a break, theyre basically
garbage and no one uses them if they have the unlocked weapon.
More stuff to do? Oh, you mean like... shooting stuff and... capturing
points.... If youre talking about the scoring and unlocking system, I
couldnt agree less. This did nothing but utterly ruin the game since
its not about having fun anymore, it just encourages poor
'sportsmanship' if you will, team stacking, cheap tactics and general
assholery you dont find in games that arent ranked. Of course not
everyone is like that, but some of the worst and most unbalanced games
ive ever played were in BF2.
When I say the patches ruined it, its changing stupid things like
making it so you cant throw C4 while youre jumping and making it all
but nearly useless since it has such low range. Last time I checked,
when I jump im capable of throwing things. Theres many more changes
that crapped it up but im not going to go digging through all the patch
notes to find it. Ill just say I havent played it in about three months
or more and I havent missed it in the least.
Yeah well when was the last time you checked? How do you know that God didn't patch humans since you last tried to throw some C-4 while jumping? You assume too much.
Actually I totaly agree with you...vehicles take way too much precidence over any kind of infantry fighting in battlefield 2. At least in Battlefield Vietnam the vehicles were few and far between and more easily blown up...in Battlefield 2 you can't turn a corner without getting hit with artillery or a tank.
Don't get me wrong, I know that the game is at least somewhat realistic in that it creates a tense atmosphere where any moment can be your last...but I don't want every moment to be my last just because I chose to run to a hotspot for a fight and got blown to hell by an artillery happy commander.
Hell, most maps even outright discourage infantry play...which is a huge ding against the game for me, as infantry takes much more skill than aiming a tank and using splash damage from shells to kill 3 people at a time...like I said earlier...a commander just bombards hotspots with artillery, effectively taking away any advantage one might gain from being an infantry player...because the commander can continually scan the map for player locations, they see you sniping on the top of a building, and boom you're gone.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
"BF2 is to hard to hard for me" basically just summed up your post, Orcc.
I hate vehicles a lot too, but I like realism in games.

I did play. Alot. More from memories of clan battles in Bf1942/DC and BfV/PoE then any like of that game, of which both modern mods are vastly better and more fun then Bf2.
They made the PKM good? I must have missed that with the new server crash bug that came with it. I like artillery, it took teamwork with one person setting up a camera while the other saw through it to hit. In this version the commander clicks on the map. Sounds no talent to me. One guy with good cover could take out a tank with rpgs in the other two, in this you're more causing an annoyance then attacking. Planes have one hit laser guilded targeting (for the two seater bomber), automatically points out vehicles (instead of having to actually find them), and practically immune to ground fire (except for that one short period of time when the AA vehicles actually did what they are suppost to before the never ending whines of nerf flooded the boards). If you think that requires even the slightest amount of skill you deserve to be there. Yes I've heard the argument that it's realistic and that's what modern planes have, that realism goes well with squad leaders who are part starfish spitting out troops behind the fronts.
I didn't know what or if anything their patches fixed. I know that I played for months with the red name bug which SHOULD have been fixed during in house testing only for it to be replaced with lost connections and server crashes instead. That's when I stopped playing, when I realised that almost a year later they still haven't got the damn thing to run properly and probably never will. If nothing else playing that game taught me the word "red" in about 20 different languages.
Im surprised that BF even got any patches.

If you want huge battles, play EVE.
Does anyone else notice the parallel between video game shooters and the real thing? The more technology we make, the less the infantry have to think and do. As for the infantry becoming less and less vital, that's exactly what's happening in the real world. I mean, why send your boys off to fight and die when you can just launch a multi-megaton nuke at people who annoy you instead? Yes it is realistic when the infantry can't do anything against the big boys, but there are some things about reality that definitely don't make a good video game.
