Technocrats:
Run by the massive, multidimensional financial body known as the Lombardi Corporation, the Technocrats were the first ones to break the wall between universes in a quest to expand not only the economical frontiers of the Corporation, but also the expand the human experience itself.
Their exploration brought them in conflict with the Mystics, the group who soon followed them into the rifts between dimensions. Powered by magical arts and mythological creatures, the Mystics oppressed those who wished to expand their scientific horizons, denouncing them as Heretics and putting them through vicious Inquisitions. The Technocrats declared vendetta on the Mystics to help protect their brethren, and thus initiated the great war. Their campaign soon established a Technocratic Empire through the Multiverse, and the Lombardi Corporation became more of an Imperial body than a financial one. But with the covert aid of the Guardians, the Mystics succeeded in driving back the Technocrat Empire considerably.
Technocrats wield technology and science just as the Mystics wield magic. Anything is possible with their knowledge of the physical universe. However, most Technocrats have no prejudice against Magic, seeing it as just another form of science and often incorporating it into their technology as Magitek. Their agents carry around handheld devices known as Quantum Circuity Drives which allow them to move through the Multiverse as they wish. Many members of Lombardi do cultivate a stigma against Non-humans, though non-humans are not unheard of in their ranks.
The downfall of the Technocrats as a major player in the multiverse came when their own creations, the soulless Slivers, turned on their makers. Already suffering from the Guardians and Mystics aligned against them, they stood little chance but to pledge alligence to the soulless beasts. A 'liberation' eventually came when House Satori agreed to 'free' them. However, in reality the Technocrats traded slavery to the chaotic Slivers with slavery to neutrally aligned Satori. Many Technocrats now dream of the day when they might cast off their chains and rise to become the dominant power within the multiverse once more.
The Mystics:
he Mystics rely heavily on the use of magic and all it's forms. They view use of any technology beyond that of what we might consider 'modern' as the antagonist bane of our existence. Entities of all forms make up this group, from Humans to Demons, to Nymphs to Spirits. The group has long been tied down a depressing war with the Technocrats, and they've usually been favored in the Guardian's eyes, to their luck; but they are far from savior or saint.
Contrary to what you may suspect, the Mystics are NOT in touch with nature. If anything they use and abuse nature to give them their ultimate weapon, magic.
The celebrations over the defeat of their hated enemies, the Technocracy, were marred by the realization that technology has and would, perform a choke-hold upon the Multiverse, seeing that magic will gradually fade away, as would it's users. Given all this, it is increasingly becoming clear to the Mystics that the spread of technology will never cease, and the only choice is to counter it with a choke of their own, to install a magical force into the very seams of the Multiverse, one that would not only revive and strengthen them, but bring an end to the reign of metal, industry, and technology forever.
The Guardians of the Balance
Millennia before the multiverse was woven into the tapestry of time and fate, the Walkers existed. They were beings of pure neutrality that believed in strict non-interference. Through neutrality, they gained the ability to ascend and become all powerful. The first signs of the birth of the Guardians began with the Mystics and Technocrats going to war. Some walkers decided to shed their pure forms and infiltrate the organizations to 'observe the conflict'. However, these walkers did something disgraceful. They began to manipulate the war so that the Mystics would win. As punishment, they were cast out and had their memories and powers drained. Roughly at this time the Slivers came into existence, beings of pure chaos and destruction; the antithesis of these fallen walkers. In order to counter this threat, they touched the balance on it's most intimate level and were granted the status of it's Guardians by the sum collective of all life in existence. Guardians are neither good, nor evil. They are of a neutral-ordered alignment, and will often commit evil acts for the greater good of the balance.
The war took a turn for the worse when the Slivers allied with the Technocrats. Now the guardians were in trouble. The true walkers refused to aid former brethren because that would be considered breaking the will of neutrality; if the Slivers were to destroy everything then it'd simply be the way that it was meant to be. In a last ditch effort to ward off the Slivers, the guardians allied themselves with the Mystics. The question now is do they have the ability to attain what was once theirs? The much sought after ability to become a walker? Will they ever recover their memories and their history?
Well there is a sneak preview of some of the groups. There are more involved, like independent groups etc.
You can roleplay and spar, gain items of power to help in battles and create characters based on a level system. The better you do in time, the better and more powerful your character can become.

Me and my friends started one a while back, called ISCU. It's getting pretty quiet now as we are working on turning it (the ISC project) into an actual game. It's sci-fi, a little like eve, if you want more info: www.machello.com/iscu
