PSU, an ignored title?

PoliceQCPoliceQC Member UncommonPosts: 40
I don't know but it seem the forums is really not active compare to many others upcomming MMO. It's also not a really awaited title for most of online player.

Aside cheating, almost everybody who tryed PS series loved it, so how come another title of the series, one that seem really really hot, is so not known and/or ignored by so many people?

Personnaly, It's one of the only game I am going to pay the full price to play because I loved other PS's.

If anybody have an opinion about the topic, feel free to express yourself.

yeh i noticed that to, i think it has alot to do with what happen on the other PS it being hacked on all the systems and really runied it for me i use to play on PSO xbox till i was 175 ranger but when i got to around lvl 70 when i got the game i noticed alot, alot more hacking items and such dupeing wasent that bad becasue it dident really ruin all the fun of the game then the hacked items just runied for me. But thats was ages ago and this is a brandnew PS not just a expansion if that, and all the char stats and all that good stuff is going to saved onto the severs so the worst me might have to deal with it just dupeing if its ever possible and maybe even bots if its possible on psu, but i doubt anyone will get close to dupeing in it, and another thing is i think pple dont think they will add alot of content for all the reigons(i think it was japan, they got a whole bunch of updates and no one else got as much if i am correct) but i think that wont be a problem becasue sega might have learned there lesson with the old pso.
Ive been waiting for PSU ever since it was announced just hope its as good if not better then PSO,

PSU is highly anticipated and is not being ignored as much as you think(not trying to flame anyone here).

I recommend that people who visit this site should play Phantasy Star Universe when it comes out

PSU like PSO is a niche game, as you may have noticed most of the MMO industry is medieval based and many use the same classes.  PSO/PSU however have  a very different system and for that its not very sought out or piques interest as much from gamers to mmo game coverage sites/magazines as games such as WoW, GW, Age of Conan etc.

But I forsee a huge increase in population once people see the battle system and plot in action.

This game is like a japanese version of guild wars, guild wars is not a mmo and this isent either, not bashing the game but people come here to look at mainly american based mmos not japanese based multiplayer

If anything Guild Wars is the Americanized version of PSO.

I understand where your opinion is coming from, in the fact that both games are made up of instances, but this one offers different combat, better character customazation, pets, and the nice sci-fi setting.

I'm very anticipated but it seems ignored towards the news team of the mmorpg community. I gave Admin the link to the official site and date 4 days ago.

GW is an Arena based PVP game, i fail to understand how this game can be "like a version of GW". Also, Phantasy Star has roots far richer then GW... once again comments by someone who is not a gamer but a MMOGAMER.

First, PSU has never called itself an MMORPG, so if anyone here has an issue with people calling it an mmop direct it at yourself. Second, if these mmo devs had a clue they would base there combat system on PSU, cause this is what COMBAT is about. PSU took ideas that blizzard had with the D franchise and improved on them in PSO, in PSU we see the evolution of that gameplay, its the game that Turbine and many others tried to make but failed.

The other devs should pray that PSU dies for the same reason PSO did, Sega's lack of support... cause if Sega actually takes this one serious... this game has long term hit writen all over it... id still be playing PSO ep2 if it was not for the lack of content.

So in short, if you want news on PSU goto a real community site, like pso-world.com cause you aint going to find anything here, o except MMOGAMERS who are just looking for a new EQ...

hey and here is a news flash, some of us have been playing the import of psu for the past idk, 4 months and love it... go find me a vanguard beta tester who actually liked it lol. You cant find an import or beta tester of PSU that can say anything bad about the game, amazing huh?

many pc gamers do not know about pso, and those who did remember all about the hacks and all, but this was because pso's items were saved client side, making it easy to hack.

psu is a different monster, this time all items and info will be saved server side , which will elminate  the vast majority of the hacking.

pso was considered a ORPG and so is psu. For those who claim that Psu is like guild wars are quite incorrect. Guildwars is like PSO but with pvp that works.

As for my expectations on PSU, I have really no expectations for it because of Sega. They had many times the chance to correct many mistakes they did since the dreamcast version of PSO, yet they didnt, the hogged our money from the game cube, to the xbox and when pso bb came out on the pc.

I dont belive Sega learns from their mistakes, Since they  dropped out the console wars they have let many of their good franchizes go to hell. The RPG skies of arcadia, one hell of a good game was remade for a system no one has, they failed to make it on the most popular systems and let such a good game die out. They have done little to improve other popular titles like the sonic.

I can easly predict that PSU will be fun at 1st, then as problems arises they will not be addressed untill a year or so of complaints. also new content will rarely  be made. (take pso for example how it was introduced to the gamecube, and months later release some content that has already been seen on the dreamcast. then when the xbox version came out it took a while to see new content come in that was already aval for the dreamcast and gamecube. they never added anything new and took their time to offer old content to these consoles. )

PSO no long term interset? Think about this. After the 7 years its been out it still has 40k players covers 3 systems. PSO:BB being the PC version www.psobb.com  .  Lack of supports? Time to break out the STs PSO:BB probobly has the best ST ive ever seen. I love it when you report a hacker and a GM comes into your room, scans the players item lists, force summons the said hacker and a big box appears around him that says "Delete" and he turns into 100s of little partices doomed to fade. That hackers account has now been banned! Also they ban by credit card so if you f-up in one game your GC and X-Box games will also suffer the same fate. Plus. Havent seen GMs looking that scary sence UO.

The game being a clone of guild wars? Nope This game came out on the Dream-Cast its most defeintly the other way around. However the simple fact that theres no Auto-Attack button makes this game diffrent. You acutlly have to time when you hit the button in order to do combos or your dudes gonna sit there like a bo-tard and get slaughtered.

This game being ignored? I live in NNY. It make rural wyoming look like NYC. All of us have one EB in the "City" village of Watertown (City is their self given title) and people who have not gotten their Pre-Orders are gonna have to wait 3 months. Farther south in Sracuyse (A major city in the state of NY) They now have to wait 4 months due to popularity. Its far from ignored but seing has the only real thing thats changed besides the coat of paint is that the "Photons" in PSU arnt really Photons. Come on its just a dumb weapon tech! Give me the twins or the dolphin shooting death beams over a weapon tech anyways.

PSOBB is a solid game and has been for a long time. I agree Sega has made many mistakes but within all the blunders you just cant ignore the fact that sega has made and will continue to make some of the most fun games. PSU is an exmple of this, You almost sound like an SoE hater, I really fail to understand how Sega let you down so much... to the point that you would have no expectations of what was the most fun online rpg i have ever played. Keep in mind, i am a vet of MANY mmorpgs, and even tho i started out in EQ, PSO is my home. So i would really save this hate for a company that actually deserves it, like SoE, EA, like Sigil and others.

    I agree

In PSU you dont play an interface, in GW you do. GW is a joke, simple as that. PSU has real game play, you dont hit 4 macro keys and fall asleep. You actually GASP have to PLAY THE GAME. YOU. This is what next gen is, its about dynamic content, not GW which uses the same damn combat engine that EQ uses.

I liked the fact that you couldn't  button-mash your way through the game either. Every combo had to be executed rythmically and strategically.

Yeah, it's just been overlooked by the PC folks, but everyone with a 360 and Playstation, and the older fans of PSO are already raving about it. Or, if you keep up with Japanese games, you would already know it's one of the top bestsellers ever over there.

Phantasy star online brings back so many fond memories of my sega dreamcast and the hours upon hours i spent into playng my character. I am really looking forward to this title and hope it lives up to my expectations. Of course I hope it doesn't fall prey to the hacks and stuff but I am anxiously waiting on this title.

Anione has any idea why the hype level is reduced to 6.8? Is there anythign on sega news or official website making people disapointed?
  • ShazzelShazzel Member Posts: 472

Sci-fi setting and a mostly asian following/design. You cant see why this isnt taking off in the US?

Doomed to fail imo, at least in us/euro markets.

No new news & it doesnt seem to different from PSO (just a few more button combos & some slight class/race change that still promotes one type of characterbuild).

Meh, only reason I plan on playing it is so my buddy and I can play together. He only has a PS2 and no PC, I have a PC and no PS2, works out quite nicely. That is pretty much the only reason we have stuck with FFXI so long as well =P. High hopes for this game, lets pray it rocks.
  • FiresealFireseal Member Posts: 5

    I admit I have been ignoring this title for awhile. I have never played PSO online mode before because I bought mine on dreamcast 2 years after Dreamcast console wasnot in production anymore. The reason I have been ignoring this title is because I have heard MANY statements that this game was the worst of the worst when it came to cheating and hacking. If it's worse than Final Fantasy 11, then I would say(via FFXI translator) {Play?} Phantasy Star Universe? {No thanks.}

On a side note, hype level is back to 6.9 :), although it should be higher. :(

  • pso used to do client side saves so that why it was easy to hack. this time around everything will be saved on the server so it should be alot better.

    Its
not being ignored entirely by the PCers out there. Although I have a
PS2 I will not be buying this game for it. I will be buying this game
for my PC. Personally I never really liked playing online with

Definitely not being ignored by all PC guys.  I tried the import offline mode and already preordered mine.  I dont see why so many people hate games just cuz theyre asian?  Anyway I'm pretty sure this is not being ignored... and if it is its being ignored by the ignorant.  I never played PSO but I know theres a ton of people that loved that game.  As long as sega handles the hacking I think this game is gonna do fine in the states.  I'm sure a bunch of MMO players are looking for something different and this will be it.

It's not getting much coverage on the forums here but the PSO-World.com forums for the game are super busy.  This game is going to be a lot bigger I think than many people are giving it credit for.
