Burning Crusade will miss Christmas market
Blizzard has confirmed that World of Warcraft expansion pack The Burning Crusade won't be released until January now, missing the lucrative Christmas selling season.
The add-on was widely expected to go on sale next month, but Blizzard has opted to extend the closed beta test in order to "further refine the new content that will ship with the game".
Company president Mike Morhaime commented, "We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and were excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content.
"We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve."
More information on specific worldwide release dates and pricing will be announced "in the near future".
The news that The Burning Crusade won't be out in time for Christmas is likely to disappoint many WOW fans - but it's unlikely to affect sales of the add-on in the long run. Back in August, Blizzard COO Paul Sams confirmed that the number of subscribers is "over 6.5 million and just shy of seven million" - making for a healthy installed base of potential buyers.

Lesser companies *cough* $OE *cough* would just release it broken and unfinished to get the x-mas bucks.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

I told my friend (who is a total WoW fanboi) about this and he said "it's just a rumor." When I replied with a link to the news website with the actual report from Blizzard, he set himself to away and is pretending not to notice. Fortunately for me, his "AFK" status automatically forwards IMs straight to his cell phone.
I'd be interested to see how many people cancel their accounts until January (or whenever BC actually does come out) because they can't find anything worthwhile to do, since all of their gear will be rendered useless.

Well not realy the gear that you have epic at 60 will help you grind to lvl 65 probably.

Well you can chalk me up as one that will not be playing until the expansion. I really thought this would be the release (November), so I opened my account about 2 weeks ago and started playing again. Well with this news, I don't really have a reason to play.
Of course, I wouldn't expect it to be out in January after this news, I'm now expected March 2007. Which if that is the case, means I definately won't be bothering with WoW anymore, since AoC will likely be out.
ah well, this will allow me to build up my cash reserves again, and i may actually have time to hit commander on warrior now (cause god knows i'm not spending 1k gold for the 7th time for an epic mount )
MMORPG addict since 1995.
It is annoying but expected.
It is the majority of players fault though - if all stop complaining about wanting talent changes and patches eveery 5 minutes bliz would have had to focus on releasing an expansion and wed have had it a year ago.
They have a very valid excuse to keep introducing new content to waste our time in the original wow everytime some nubster asks for talents to be altered becausdethey cant play with what they have etc etc.
You get your just desserts in the end and bliz will not loose revenue from this they will gain revenue - what better to tell distributors other than hey - January is usually a dead month for business but we are going to swell your coffers in january so buy buy buy.
More players will subscribe for another couple of months than will stop their subscription and few wow players will actually not get the expansion than claim - the temptation to try it will be too great trust me !
Anyway all you crap players that havent done any preparation ahead of TBC can now have a couple more months to make some cash etc etc and start buying up things in the AH that you can use in TBC if you have any brains.
you gonna need 5000g for a decent mount at lev 70 and you can bet there will be plenty of $$ to be made via the AH if you have your wits about you.
Get your thinking caps on and save or invest !

i know what you mean though - been bouncing around between a few betas and started WoW again - there just is nothing out there at the moment.
maybe it's just me though getting old and loosing interest in MMOs altogether (i have to admit nothing has kept my interest as long as the original EQ did).
maybe it's time for me to move on and leave MMOs behind....
nah.
