Open Beta?

FilraenFilraen Member Posts: 1

Ok don't flame me :p

I'm sure this question have been answered yet but none of the topics title talk about this (escept beta contest)...

So is there an open beta test soon? Rumors and such?

Thanx for the answers ;)

well it's not a flame (this isimage) But as I read in the threads about the contest most people think there will be no open beta and the only way to get in now is to pre-order the game

there was a quote in one of the threads from the devs regarding open beta that didn't completely deny it (something that it was still undecided or likewise)

officially there's no open beta. The closest thing is that closer to release they will start allowing pre-orders in. So effectively you have to 'buy' your way into the 'open' beta.

By the way the pre-order box is only $9.95 US and if you're pre-ordering the game at the same time you're just putting a deposit down towards the game.

According to the CoH Website, there will be public beta sign ups starting at the end of this month.  The following is an excerpt from the site posted earlier today.

    7) A Re-cap of Dates to Know:

    • March 22nd – Begin Adding Pre-order Customers to Beta
    • March 29th – Host Public Beta Sign-up
    • April 7th – All Pre-Order Customers Invited to Beta
    • April 14th – Randomly Selected Public Beta Invites Sent Out
    • April 22nd – Beta shutdown to prepare for Launch
    • April 25th – 3-Day Pre-order only Head Start
    • April 28th – Launch!

     Cheers,

Does anyone know if they are going to charge the monthly fee for the open beta?

    1) As stated above by several people and more specifically pointed out by the list of dates taken from the CoH site, there will more than likely be no open beta.

    2) There is never a monthly charge for any form of beta, open or not.

Yep, definitely not true.  Many games have charged for Beta.

Gee thats funny, I was in the RO beta, never paid a dime. I have participated in almost every beta of the released mmorpgs on the market, with the only notable exceptions being UO and FFXI, and have never paid a dime to beta test the game. Which would be the basis for my statement.

    SWG charged too

I was also in the SWG Beta, and unless you're talking about the fact that the game was still basically an early Beta product when they went gold and released it, they never charged me for beta. I felt it should have stayed in Beta MUCH longer and definitely felt like I was paying to beta the game when it went live, but regardless, it wasn't a Beta, it was a live and finished game.

The fact that you run a website and have "STAFF" plastered over all your posts leaves me wondering just why you have never been charged for Beta when other people have been...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Gee.. why, could that be? Surly not the free advertising that is worth more to them then scoring your loot cash.

just so people know (im sure most do) when you buy the pre order for the game which at Gamestop cost me a meager 5 dollars (that gets applied to the games final price) you get to pre-register and are guarenteed to be in the Beta and whatnot...also the disc comes with the comic and trailer plus a few other neat lil goodies like screenshots and concept art.  As for paying to Beta test...i dunno, ive tested for D2 and mtgo and i never paid a single red cent...in fact mtgo gave ME 10.00 for my "hard work" hehe...but im sure taht somewhere out there ppl are paying to beta test.  wouldnt surprise me one bit.

I became staff here not too long ago, so that has absolutely nothing to do with any beta I've been a part of. The only beta's I've been in since becoming Staff here have been CoH, KO (Open Beta) and RYL. Every beta I've ever gotten into before becoming staff I got into based on my own merit and/or luck. And of all the betas I've been in, I've never paid a cent. Not saying no one has ever paid for a beta, just say that *I* have never paid for any, nor do I know anyone who has.

I have never had to pay for any betas I have been in either...image

Yeah, Yeah, yeah, Yeah...I got me some. :p

  • I don't have staff plastered on my posts, but I havn't paid a single cent to any games I had beta tested. I don't know where you're coming up with this idea, but the purpose of beta testing is to pre-play to 1. find bugs 2. test the systems and servers. This is a free privliage given to people.

Only after the games are released does a monthly charge come into play.

     PSST... Near the bottom is says "SARCASAM"<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

     It's ok man, really. Ok

On a serious note, I also have never paid for a beta... Then again.. I have never BEEN in a beta.. This is gonna be my first online game since UO came out.. And that was just not fun. Killed by a freaking rabbit.

So, Some people have paid and some have not? Sounds like some one has a good scam going image
