This is going to be great, sea and air warfare anyone? Plus with addition of fortresses, you do not have to be high level to fight in PvP during castle seiges.

Ya there is so much more to do . I like it, plus leveling has gotten easier. I have leveled 39-42, from Friday to now and I have played probably 8-12 hours which is quite nice for Lineage 2.
The day I spend 12 hours to get 3 levels is the day I shoot myself in the head.

I'm so tempted to give L2 a try. I beta tested it LONG LONG ago. I mainly stay away from the game because of people complaining about it. But through my journey of MMO's throughout the last couple of years, I think I might give L2 a try once and for all.

It doesn't really say what levels the new "fortress battles" are targetted at. It just says smaller guilds. I hope its targeted at characters under level 70

I think that's exactly the target Torak. My only question is how are they going to keep say... 60's+ or 70's+ out of there.
As far as where L2 is going... Well it's population is on the rise, for some reason L2 NA is getting work done on it on a regularly basis now, it's almost as if L2 Asisa woke up and figured out there was a market for their game here and they've managed to keep alot of the older game feature while making it more NA friendly, that's a super hard thing to do. Add on top of all that the fact that they are working hard to add new features and new play dynamics.
Maybe it's just me but i see bright ahead for the game. Now if they can just add 1 or 2 more races and add a little more customization among the one's they already have.

Well I'm hoping they make it level based. It would be nice to break up the grind with a good fortress fight. That is L2's main weakness, not enough to do during the leveling trip, it just gets to damn tedious.
A new race was one of the items on the survey. These notes from L2guru are usually pretty reliable but its the first news so who knows what else they have planned.
I have to admit I was completely taken off guard last week with the changes to PvP (no item drop for whites) and the addition of a death penalty the new pots and solo leveling changes. Never saw that coming.
You can see they are working for a broader apeal. With these changes they are going to put in, this game will definately be the definitive choice for fantasy PvP based gaming depending on how they work it all in. The only downside I see is the L2 teams tendancy to restrict accessibility through the outragous level, economic requirements. I'm scared to even ask how much this is all going to cost the average player
I am especially interested in how they will implement the "nations". Right now its pretty much based on individual castle ownership, no real "nations". Maybe by creating alliances between castle owners we will get nations?
Yeah I really couldn't agree with you more about the tediousness of leveling Torak and it's really always been L2's "Achillis Heal".
I'm at a slight dissadvantage here as I havn't played the game in a while but I try to follow it's news regularly and have a number of friends who still play, I do know a girl that recently went back and started up a human mystic, she said the leveling between 1-30 is a gigantic difference and mush easier now then what it was like 2 years ago. That to me is great news.
If they could add more content, both in terms of PVP and PVE for those midway points of 30-60, I think it would go a very long way to making the game easier for those just freshly getting into it.
My wife hit level 34 in the trial period at a very casual pace. She had a mid D grade weapon (which was free during the sept-oct event)and a salamander suit (gift from the guild) and had roughly 2 million adena from manoring and such plus some Ancient Adena. She didn't like it because it was to easy lol. (side note - I'm always surprised at the amount of females who play L2) Of couse she didn't need to worry about DSS, I supplied it to her but that was it. She got a top D grade weapon by the end of her trial.
The hazard of speeding up the leveling is again, not having enough to do. Players are having a much easier time at low levels with both the leveling and the economy and are like "thats it". They don't know the mind crushing sh*t we had to go through just to get a D grade weapon lol.
The insta pots that drop off of mobs now completely change the grind. They do everything from regenerate HP, mana, some increase casting speeds, combat speeds, some increase the chance of criticles....they last 2 minutes and drop like crazy. Think of them as mini-buffs.
All of that combined with the "Manor system" for money and the "Seven Signs" for free weapons upgrades the game is nothing like it was even a year ago.
But it will still never have mass appeal simply because of this..
The manor system requires you think. The economy requires time to "win" at it. So knotheads will continue to cry and quit or buy adena even though there is a mechanism in place that address all of the common complaints about the game.
EDIT
Thats all C/D grade, B grade higher is still pretty rough.
I really enjoyed the month I spent in this game (I know thats nothing for L2 but it wound up taking over my life for that month) and I think these additions will do great things for this game. It may be too late to draw huge numbers with this game in NA (there is no time like launch) but if they keep adding things like this it could grow much bigger than it is here (look at Eve and its slow but steady growth since launch).
Even more important would be a strong finish for L2. If L2 could have a lot of good press towards the end of its life, with a bunch of vocally devoted fans, and the lessons learned carried over to L3 they could have a major hit in NA.
I would say that the bot issue has to be addressed in a better fashion still. Proving that they are serious about this could be key to future success
My first MMORPG was Lineage 1, which was not a hit here in the US, so I was disappointed that it seemed to me that Lineage 2 seemed to have all of the bad of its predesessor and no improvements.
But from what everyone is saying, they've made tons of changes over the past year that really increase its playability, especially for those who can't spend 8-10 hours a day grinding out experience.
If they keep this up I might have to give the game another try...

To me, I see it as...its either Lineage 2 or Everquest 2. Personally, I think their both very well made games...and they both have come a long way since their early times. So now is the choice, do I want to join Everquest 2 or Lineage 2 up again. So hard, so hard!
I think its good to see companies see whats wrong with their game and work on it to make it good again or to make it better. It shows the developers care about Lineage 2, so it must have a very strong developing team and awsome player base. Same with Everquest 2, they turned that game around like no other, its like a night and day comparison.

I have the same dilemma, but I'm going to try Lineage 2 since I never played it the first time around. Allegedly, there is a lot to do now other than grind.
Thus, my EQ2 box will continue to gather dust . . . at least for another week or two when I get bored of L2, and yell at everyone here for not warning me to stay away.

Make no mistake, its still very grind focused lol. If you are just coming in for a look around, save your money, L2 requires some patience, commitment, tolerance to grind and a somewhat thicker skin.

Thanks for the advice. However, for $15-$20, even if I just get a couple/few weeks out of it, I still won't complain. At least I'll know I didn't miss anything. Certainly beats spending money on the EQ2 expansion(s) and realising I still don't like the game.
