I played Auto Assault in beta and bought it at launch. I didn't find it nearly as bad as most people in this thread seem to have. It was fun, but it started to get a little old, so I cancelled before I was charged for the second month. I think the Guild Wars/Diablo model would work very well for Auto Assault.

I completely agree. I played the game the day after it went live and enjoyed it for a few weeks but when it was time for my subsciption to run out I just couldn't see paying a monthly fee for it. I don't mind paying a monthly fee for a great MMO but AA is just a fair one. Honestly to me it is an arcade game that just happens to be massive multiplayer. I hated having to go into towns as well. The game is a nice game, but at least at the point I played it right after it went live it didn't have enough meat to justify a fee. Maybe that has since changed.

SOOOO your version of dead is diff then mine or NCsofts. The company said it was nearly dead and had to do layoffs and what not because of how dead the game is
After playing DDO & this game, I ran screaming back to WoW. I really wanted it to succeed, but there's just so much wrong with it that is endemic, i.e. not fixable. If it makes it to summer 2007, I'll be surprised.
I don't think it deserves to die just revamped, for starters try getting from just the fedex type quest and expanding them into actual missions with a storyline. I actually got really board doing that. I know the background story, but the story needed to evolve beyond that. Everything ended up seeming very pointless. That was my experience within the game anyway.

You won't know until you try. Give the trial a try. Keep in mind it is a *very* low pop game, but if that doesn't bother you, and you like the theme, you may like it.
I know the background story, but the story needed to evolve beyond that.
No disrespect meant or intended, so please don't read anything into the question, but did you read the story as it unfolded in the quest text? The background story is pretty light (3 factions vieing for control of the rts map-- err the world), but one thing that AA has that a lot of other MMOs don't is that the entire mission chain for a faction tells one story that *does* evolve over time. Unfortunately the quest actions (kill X, collect Y, Deliver Z, drive to point A, click on object didn't evolve - but that's more about the technology the designers had at their disposal than anything else... I can't fault their writers; they wrote a damned good story.
The whole justice thing on the mutant side was good storytelling - when you start the game you have no idea it's coming and when you get to the "end," well... there's more there than I think most people realize.
I think the game should have been released with a cheaper monthly fee, or no fee at all - I think they would have sold a lot more copies. I see from this thread that I'm not alone in thinking that.
Me personally... I wanted a MUCH deeper *RPG*. I liked the combat, but even there I'd like to have seen better AI from the PVE enemies and more choices as to what weapons I could put where (like Car Wars). What would have really done it for me would have been playing my character more than my car. Even without changing their content much, I think they could have created a much more interesting game if I could have gotten out of my car, piloted from a cockpit view, etc. Details like that really do matter in how satisfying the game experience is, you know?
They should at least drop the subscription cost, or run it like guild wars. Maybe it will pick up again. I played for my free month when i got the game having been in beta since phase 3. I absolutely loved the game, it was the perfect game for when you were annoyed at whatever you were playing, cos you could just go in and clear camps of NPC's running over infantry etc.
The thing was the game was too empty, and after I realsied that even the EU server merge's weren't helping I left because it would have depressed me too much to watch it suffer. I really want this game to suceed and grow, but I cant bring myself to renew my account and log in only to be greated with a still barren wasteland.
Step: Ingame advertisements, the setting is such that having them won't be too intrusive. Besides, players can probably get a hell of a kick blasting down billboards for a Vault Ad, just as an example. Ads bring in the dough, and lots of it, if you succeed in bringing the playerbase back up, your profits will easily hit the millions.
Step: Change the interface and physics, make it feel more like you're actually driving those destructive vehicles.
Step: Get rid of the autoattack, one of the primary selling points was the skill needed to be good in combat. Without having to aim the turrets, combat is just endless driving in circles most of the time
Step: Get rid of the damn gamecrashing bugs and memory leaks

i had faith in aa, but the devs can only think of putting in mindless "epic" end game grinds. i mean seriously, do they think a mediocre chassis is worth 100,000 tags from kills?! how many months will that take?
Suske, have you actually read the patchnotes for Update 3?
Theres a lot more content thats been added, not just 'epic grinds'.
Those that are thinking of giving this game a try, go for it and don't let these hardened gamer posts put you off. Most of the playerbase is around level 80, so when you first start up, you may notice a lack of players about. EScpecially if you are coming over from something like WOW. Don't expect crowds. IMO this will all change soon enough as the bugs gradually get squashed (which they are ) and as soon as players realise that the PVP part of the game is actually a LOT of fun. We are currently testing out the Update 3 on the Public Test Server and I can honestly say that the gameplay has improved tenfold simply by changing a few things around.
Some BH skills have been adjusted which previously meant they had an 'I WIN' button. Deflection and resistances are now in play whereas before you only needed high Theory to successfully do damage to targets. Tokens are now awarded for PVP kills and the much hated 'afk token farming' has been brought to a halt by introducing a 2 minute auto INC timer (this means you can no longer be dead in an outpost overnight).
Anyway, those that are still saying this game has died or is dying just can't be arsed to check it out.
Only way to know for sure is to check it out for yourself and don't go with the popularity thing.
Not to mention, this game is made by NetDevil, not NCSoft. NCSoft is just the publisher. The only other MMO NetDevil has anything to do with is Jumpgate. Auto Assault definitely has issues, but they have nothing to do with NCSoft.
..and Jumpgate is another MMOG that is still going despite its low population. SO theres no reason that NetDevil will cease working on Assault due to its currrent population.
I was glad to hear that Auto Assult was still going strong. It seemd a formidable MMO upon release. Having an enviorment that is more destructible than any other game out there will really add to the game play. I haven't tried the free trial, but I plan on it.
I played for a month or so. Once I hit the post 60 grind before the big 2.0 update, was when I stopped playing.
Right after the server merge, there still were very few people around. Getting a convoy wasn't as easy as people make it sound. The lack or basic basic basic mmorpg amenaties like an Auction House still persisted.
Well the server merge happened because the EU servers weren't really populated enough mainly due to the lack of advertising the game got on release. EU players (me included) were asking that all EU servers be merged. Instead what happened was that they merged ALL of the servers including the US ones into one server. Now called NEXUS. Well, this certainly helped the game feel change from unpopulated to populated.
Looking back now, I think it was a good move and not one that means anything bad as most people feel. This game is still growing and so is its user base.
I'm sure most MMO's start with minimal subs and grow from there also depending on how much advertising budget they have.
I tried the beta and free trials of Auto Assault. It seems like a great concept, but yeah..it was under populated. It also seemed like most of the game could be done alone. Is this the case?

I went to EB game store to buy a gift for a friend and they gave this game to me for free. I now see why.
