I'll most likely still buy it and i supported it on this poll and hype wise, just saying the resurrect thing and no skill loss sort of prevented me from total darkfall worship status

about the loot, every piece of gear in DF is supposed to be craftable, so how big of a deal could it possibly be?

Loosing all loot on death gives too much change on griefing this never ever worked in any mmorpg.

defending, protecting generally doesn't work either sins peeps want to PLAY a game (im waiting enough on trafficjams) you reall except that i do gaurds duties in game ????????????? i don't even like that in RL why should i play a game where i have to do that?

I think that guys that are developing darkfall (especially after reading the article) live in there own little dream world and a few months after release there bubble will burst, they will get a sense of reality and realize that you can only make a succesfull game if you make it FOR the general instead of what they like.

It's an old mistake actaully they looked at the complains that are around open pvp games. Some of the "solution" they thoughed in many cases is not going to solve the problem behind to problem. One of the biggest problem i see with darkfall is TOO MUCH realisme. People want more realisme sure, but they want realize because they think it will add fun and complexity to the game. Reality isn't always fun though. just look at what we call "grinding", loads of people have to do repetitive tasks in there job so you could call this realisme.

Wow nailed that one pretty good with there first 40 levels or so which is incredible enjoyable, still kinda disappointed that even a company with the repetation of blizzard too cut corners by releasing a game withouth a good end game

Darkfall was in development for 4 real years and Wow was in development for 5 years.

Darkfall the only real game (if it comes out)

As long as it doesn't end up like the disappointment that was Shadowbane, like letting it's gfx go out of date before release for example?

I dont see the point of comparing WoW to DF, theyre mmos but theyre aimed at totally different people, casual gamers and young kids who want a safe regulated pre-scripted world vs pvpers and guilds who want a game with as many fights as possible

Its like comparing VBS1 which is used in the military as an infintry simulator to Halo 2 with lasers and aliens just because theyre both sold in the FPS section.

I was excited back in the 18th century when it was first announced... now, i check their site once a month and read through their updates (which are great, and a long time coming) but until they actually announce a firm date for beta i'm not going to actively follow it as such.

When the beta is actually announced though, wooooooohooooooooooooooo

He pinned the tail on the donkey with this one.  This game was supposed to be in beta about 2-3 years ago.  I think they do this to tease us.  Every couple of months they put out some new info or pics and everyone starts going crazy, but then you find out nothings happening.  Until I see the game in stores Im not even gonna worry about it anymore

I think it was actually announced in 2001.  Believe me, I would
like nothing more than to see a great game made by a bunch of
Norwegians!  It would be nice to see us make something great other
than death metal music!  :p  I do support indie development
teams by trying to frequent websites, keep up with their news and pass
it along if it seems interested.  I do it all the time on sites
like f13... and I've made posts about games such as Darkfall and DnL in
the past.  We always hope for the best.  Unfortunately, with
some games, the shiny wears off when there's not a lot of new info or
the info is a bit meh and people wander off in search of something
shinier.  Darkfall doesn't have the "Blizzard" big name to keep
people interested in it forever.  It's not easy to keep a name no
one knows in the gaming forefront.

WRONG!    Actually I think this game will be very succesfull, Sure it won't have WOW numbers, But it aims to PVPers!  Not carebears.

Well, it's a good thing EVE and UO didn't last huh? Both have FFA PVP and Item Loss.

    *Whew*
I'm glad nobody plays those games anymore. What were they thinking? Ppl musta got bored after 8yrs of UO.

All those 200,000(or so) accounts on each game are just trials.

Ppl's ignorance is amazing. Go back and play your Paladin WoW Carebear.

But did you lose ALL you loot?  I've never played UO or eve so I don't know.  If you do then is point is invalid.  If however you only lose 1 item, then your point is invalid.

Idk about all loot, but you did lose loot. In EVE you lose EVERYTHING. But, the point is still valid to an extent and completely valid for his(her?) first comment I quoted.

No in UO you do not lose your loot.  To keep their customer base from the mass exodus they were experiencing early in the game UO developed another zone where looting bodies was not permitted.  Within a month every player was in the new "no looting" zone and wouldnt leave.  To get people to actually travel to the "body looting" zone they had to implement a system called insurance, in addition to other incentives like double loot, gold, minerals, ......  Which essentially allows the player to keep all of thier best items from being looted on death.  So now even in the "body looting" zone (which is still unpopular compared to the "no looting" zone) a person never loses anything valuable.

Dont know about Eve but UO cannot be counted in the lose your loot on death MMO.

So there are carebear's are ruining games left right and centre. It just means there a lot more people out there who enjoy the 'feelings' brough on by PVP with risks and rewards that don't have a MMORPG to call their home. If darkfall comes out, and it actually has a quality feel to it - it WILL be VERY successfull.

edit When I used the term carebear I mean – “people who prefer PVE game or games where the PVP is PVP lite – ie no penalties”.
When I use the term hardcore I mean – “people who prefer PVP games with FFA, where PVP loot – risk vs reward”
I do not mean to offend people with these terms, I used them for a lack of a better term and because they are widely known / used.

Hmm if most people preferred the no looting zone over the body looting zone even with incentives, it means that people prefer no looting.

Of course this doesn't mean that Darkfall will fail.  It just means that they have an uphill battle and had better have a pretty good way of impleminting whatever looting policy they have.

Myself I don't mind looting.  However I am partial carebear, meaning sometimes I just want to play and relax without having to watch my back all the time.  Other times you better watch your back.  (Not that that makes any difference I am really not very good at pvp hehe,)

Yes, but you have to realise that there are about 30 MMORG's out there that are setup for the newbs or carebears. There are a only a couple out there that actually cater for the hardcore/PVP crowd and none which IMO compare to the early days of UO/AC.

This means that there is an good opening right here to draw in this PVP crowd! I believe it is a smart move, why compete in an already saturated market? Every large company is pushing out EQ clones left right and centre these days - this crowd is already catered for, the PVP crowd is NOT... at least until darkfall comes out that is :)

You don't really get it, do you? The actual market for full looting PVP is actually VERY small. thats why UO destroyed full looting PVP, the Darktide server of Asherons call has been the least played server for a long time ( I haven't played AC recently, so I don't know the current state of the PVP server) . DarkFall Won't be very successfull at all, the market for it is just to small. besides, look at the competition with games that involve PVP. Age of Conan, Warhammer....I'm amazed someone is actually still intrested in low budget title like DarkFall.

No sir, YOU don't get it.

The reason why people follow Darkfall because it offer's FFA PVP with Looting. Does WAR offer this? Does AOC offer this? No.

That is the exact reason why people FOLLOW IT. If it was just another run of the mill PVE game / EQ clone made by a small company in an already saturated market would it have the following it does? NO.

Although i do admit that it wont have the following of carebear games like WOW, there is indeed a market for a hardcore game, and this is the exact market that darkfall is going to cater for.

I do think he has a point, the PvP market is lacking right now.  Personally I am waiting for Vanguard which will have looting as well.  A lot of people are carebears, but there are a lot of carebear games out there.  Creating an FFA MMO would actually have a following, as long as the game is balanced and has a good combat system.  A lot of people tend to ignore the combat aspect of MMOs, which for me its the most important part.

Also I think Gameloading is understimating how many people do want FFA MMOs.  Every single MMO I have played people would request it....WoW had a 99 page forum post petition etreme PvP servers, that's a lot of users.  I am giving it as an example.

    Current Games: EVE, WoW
Have Played: EQ1, EQ2, CoH, CoX, MXO, GW, Silk Road, WAR, AoC, Anarchy Online, UO, DDO

oh it offers looting, please forgive me for forgetting that "amazing huge concept"

Do people follow it? yes. Do a lot of people follow it? Heck No. In fact, If the game would be an Everquest clone, it would have more followers.

Scream all you want, but the facts go against you. the only Hardcore PVP game that is still going strong is EVE, and one has to wonder if the fact you lose items is even the main selling point of EVE.

It's not the main focus in EVE, but it is a pretty big focus. Looting players is much better than looting mobs.

Plus, Darkfall and EVE will be mainly focused on the same thing: Community and Warfare.

In Darkfall, (so the devs say) you will be able to build cities from scratch and hire NPC guards and vendors to run your city. Cities will help control territory and that territory is defended for the materials it contains for crafting. The world is supposed to be very expansive, giving alot of movement freedom w/o stepping on someone elses toes.

    What
a moronic post. It sounds to me like you are just angry that this game doesn’t
cater for your ‘carebear’ playing style (unlike the other 30 other EQ clones
    out there). Deal with it.

    There
are still heaps of people following the game (just look at how active their
official forums are!) even though the game has been delayed time and time
again! I’m sure there are heaps of people like myself who aren’t really
following the game anymore, that is until the beta is announced.

    If
you really believe the game would be more popular if it was just another EQ
clone that brings nothing new to the MMORG scene - but on a smaller budget you
really are delusional. See above posts.

    Again,
I reiterate – there were and still are lots of people playing Darktide, UO
(free shards, pre trammel), Tibia, Shadowbane, Eve etc… There are also a lot of
people bored with WOW's pointless PVP who will be looking for something more.
In addition to this look at the AOC and Vanguard PVP forums, there is post
after post from people requesting a ‘hardcore’ server that offers FFA and
    looting.

    There
is a market for a new hardcore MMORPG, and the market is indeed big enough for
Darkfall to be very successful. Obviously if you hang out in the
Hello Kitty Online forums you likely wouldn’t see this market, but it is there –
whether YOU see it or not.

    Now
off you run, back to WOW.

    Chow.

think the PvP was going to be very intense in Vanguard.

Edit:  I thought I should mention that I've seen looting discussed
among fans and all, I just haven't seen it mentioned by a dev of
