What's up with these countless "X game>WoW" threads?

Here is what im talking about:

Randomretard1:
"OMG! Hey guyz! I hope this game will be better than wow. wow sucks lolololololol"
Randomretard2:
"LOL Yeah, WoW is teh worst game ever kthxbai"

Seriously, NOBODY cares what you think about WoW in Vanguard or WAR forums! Even if WoW touches you at night, don't post about it. If you really want people to hear your crappy opinion, go here http://mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/category/102. Otherwise, save your time and bandwidth.

    Actually, I get more annoyed at the WOW RULZ threads personally.

    In any case, WOW has multiple serious weaknesses that most MMORPGers do not want to see repeated in any new games, unfortunately, because of WOW's success, a lot of people are afraid that developers will copy it for the sake of the money, and continue the "legacy". Unfortunately, they've been right before.

     

    However, assuming your example was a real one, yeah, that is horrendous. In more than just one way.

    It is very popular. I also think it shows as a basis of what future games are built around...just like how everquest was the basis for a while. So its like every non-skillbased game has to be compared against WoW, and how it differs from the now "mainstream" that everyone knows.

    Just my view, prolly wrong lol.

    As I always say; Whatever floats your boat.

    Some people like WoW, others like EQ2 and some just adore Star Wars Galaxies while a fourth crowd hates all of the above and would do their best to stampede all over them.
    It's as simple as that so I have to agree with the thread-starter - We don't care!

    I play WoW, and while I get a decent amount of enjoyment out of it, I'm not blind to the flaws it has. Really though, people should be glad for WoW even if you don't like the game. It's cemented the MMORPG as a part of the mainstream, which can only mean further developer interest in making more MMO's. The vast majority of MMO's are made by small companies trying to carve their mark, besides SOE with EQ, Blizzard was really one of the few heavyweight developers to throw themselves into the genre. Now, with WoW hitting it big, I imagine other high calibur studios are looking a lot more seriously at the MMO field.

    But anyway, there wouldn't be some many "X>Wow" threads, if WoW's fanboys didn't go around making "WoW>X" posts. It's as simple as that.

       The reason is a lot of people only know of WoW, never played any other mmo's.. If they have played others, then they're WoW fanbois, not saying wow isnt a good game. 

       I think we need to not set it as the standard though.

    right you are. the big companies that are being pulled into making MMORPGs (which there hasnt really been any yet and its been 2 years) are only going to do what they ALWAYS do...try to copy each other yet tweak the smallest aspect to make theirs seem better yet still cheap. have you ever seen one of the huge corporations try and do something new and innovative? nope...we need people that know about MMORPGs and have been making them for a long time to realize what's similar and do the opposite...kinda like Sigil and some of the other companies right now. we dont need huge corporations because they'll make things worse by copying WoW.

    It human nature to bash something that you dont like but a lot of people do. Its the same with WoW, EQ, EVE. Oh there are tons of EVE-haters around too.

    Maybe the people who make these threads are onto something?

    Oh wait, wow has 7 million players...so anyone who doesn't like it must be a retard.

    But yeah, i do agree that they should try a little harder in regards to posting them in their relevant forum.

    I think a lot of it has to do with wow being so popular right now. A lot of poeple have tried wow and are now either bored of it, or didnt like it when they tried it. As such they want something better to come along so that they can feel superior to those playing wow by saying how much better there game is. I dont play wow anymore but ill probably play some again when the expansion comes out because honestly right now there really isnt anything better out. But heres hoping in the year 2007!
