I've had a lot of fun with the Mauler so far, the damage output (at least with Fists) is just incredible, combined with the defensive abilities of Aura Manipulation the class is pretty insane.
The Mauler seems to be Mythics answer to the Vampiir, giving all 3 realms access to a class with in-combat DD's, HoTs, and self-buffs. The Magnetism line is also pretty fantastic for slowing down those runners so you can stay in nice and close to Maul some face!
In my opinion you can spec a Mauler to be a caster-killer OR melee-killer, or a fair mix of both. I think a lot of people take the Magnetism line for granted in favor of more DPS, but the crowd controlling abilities of the spec can be pretty devastating both 1v1 and group+.
It's a really popular class right now due to it's, well, newness, and I'd go as far as to say it's a bit overdone (maybe because nobody has learned yet how to deal with a Mauler) but in no time at all, the Mauler will be tweaked and updated and will hold it's own place in many peoples hearts
Its not vastely different from a vamp. Although my 20 and the missus 21 is tearing up Thid which has never happened before lol. Certainly they seem relatively high powered at lower levels; but then people found that vamps ruled in the BGs while they don't perform as well at 50 (relatively). They are certainly a fun class, and the fist wrap animation are good. I have found they are irrating as hell to healers (who I have been targetting in Thid), I suspect that they will be equally annoying to casters. As a light tank with a box of nice toys, I think they are going to popular, but I don't think this is going to replace my main (a cleric), or my farmer (a necro).
And in CV I've not had nearly as many problems with Maulers smacking my Vamp down as this one particular Armsman who seems to personally go for me every time..and just beat me into the ground.....

What are the problems with the Scout class, as you see them, phlcarl? On classic servers I think it might be a lack of self buffs or pets.... basic combat skills just dont cut it.....

I've played for over 4 yrs and these arguments are petty and rediculous. For example: What makes a person think that Archers only hunt other archers? With my Scout, I rarely fought other stealthers. I mainly took out casters or any other loners running around that I could catch. So the argument of one archer class being better than another is stupid, because every archer class can perform well at taking out unexpecting loners running around.
People who complain think they know the game, but in fact they do not. They know one way of killing and that is all. They complain when their tactics don't work on every class and they are failures in RvR because they don't learn to adapt.
This goes for all classes and all players who complain. DAoC is a RvR balanced game. Not a BG balanced or solo PvP balanced game. Sure it upsets me to no end when Vamps just steam roll everything in the BG's, but mostly because my realm doesn't use their heads and put together Vamp killing groups. There are ways to beat every class, but most peoples problem is that they are comparing similar classes against each other when they might not be designed to kill that class.
I know some classes are better than others in solo PvP, but that is when you form a group with classes/specs that compliment each other.
Maulers I think are a weak class in RvR. I think in PvE they are OK. I would much rather play my Vamp than a mauler. Vamps have self buffs, there is no 5 second delay on my DD. My DD is far less likely to get resisted. On high level mobs vamps can still gain power. I can do long range attacks on my vamps Maulers need to get hit for power. This is great as long as there is someone there to heal you.
I am not saying it is a bad class, but certainly after its newness wears off I do not see it being played more than a Valk or VW, but I do not see it being a highly played class given its limitations and no real advantagous over other classes. My wife loves her Mauler but I think she would be just as happy if you played a vamp.
Scouts are certainly powerful. In melee they have an 8s shield slam. This will allow them to pull their bow and shoot you to death. They also have the longest range of any of the archers. Many of the rangers you see are melee spec. This is possible mostly because of MoS making them better than playing an assassin.
I do not think there are any problems with any of the archer classes. I would say Scout/Ranger are equally preferable. I think hunters are still behind the curve a bit because of the weakness of their pet and short range on their bow. This is only compared to the other archer classes but certainly I would not call hunter gimp.
Sorry to say the gold ole days never existed. Not that people did not have fun, but in reality there were a huge amount of compalints, probably more than there are now. You cannot recreate that feeling regardless of ow the game is - just loike you cannot go back to being a kid. Sure you can play with action figures but it does not feel the same.
Yes the Mauler's HoT stack with other HoT's. It was designed this way. However, Maulers do not have infitite power. It needs to get power, the most effective by taking damage. It is not affected by power fonts, tinerboxes, + to power, etc. It is not a real option for a Mauler to run both of its HoT as well as the Valks. Eventually, and soon, the Mauler will run out of power.
The Mauler is a tank class. What happens to tank classes in RvR? They get killed by long range casters. They have less hits and worse bufss than a vamp. They do more melee damage, but then again they need to get to melee range. It is a tank with leather armor. All you need to do a lot of damage by caster (or probably bow) and he drops - same with any other tank.
I totally don't believe it being that easy to kill a mauler.
I've been running a 2 thane, 4 valk, runemaster, and healer group with bots at pk and as it stands we have absolutly no issue getting up to casters and running em down. One of the biggest deals is that people don't pan. This is in molvik. I know, your gonna say well thats a bg, it's different.
The Dogs NF group is a savage, skald, zerker, valk, runemaster, pac healer, aug healer, shaman. This means SOS, CC, assist, assist, assist. Our group now ranks anywhere from RR7 to RR10 and again theres no issue with casters. Alot of classes get special abilities that reduce caster damage so greatly that it turns a fireball into a nerfdart like you see in the RL DnD sessions. I dont see how throwing a mauler in would be any different.
Now yes a mauler needs to be hit to gain power. This is simple. As a thane and valk duo my friend and I were chaining reds or assaulting groups of 4+ oj's at once. The mauler and valk can do this too. A red hitting a mauler should creat great amounts of power allowing him to HoT. If the valk has plenty of power pots she too can keep up with the HoTs. The mauler can also endo drain too if spec'd right so like the vamp he really doesn't have to stop.
Nice post's. It's good to get a few different opinions and areas of use on the Mauler.
And about the good old days, i sure as hell had them. And i sure as hell still relive them when im solo, listening to the musik i did back in the days. Out soloing in cursed, or nisses. Or when i do some of the classic quests all over the world. SI zones Ahhh, but i guess im a daoc pve junkey aswell.

I hope youre right, i hope the nerf comes realy fast
The savage gave the zerker a kick to the nads and now the mauler is gonna put them to the grave.
FYI: Mauler HoTs stack with Valk HoTs. Can we say nerf?
