How many of your are true Comic Book Fans ?

thepharaohthepharaoh Member Posts: 41

I saw one glimpse of this game at E3, and I knew I wanted to play it.  I've recently cancelled my SWG account so I can save the money to buy the game box.

But essentially, I'm a die hard comic book fan and can't wait to play this game.  Any of you comic fans as well ?

well, once upon a time I would have considered myself a "true fan" (in my opinion that means a fan who writes letters and buys all the comics he/she can of whatever series or company they are following).  I haven't bought an actual comic in about 6 years, thats not to say that i don't watch all the movies and cartoons i can...some of the stuff they are doing now is absolutely amazing! (some absolutely blasphemous image) I am still "into" the whole Hero thing...when i first fond out about City of Heroes i was so intrigued that i immediately read all the info on it that i could, 2 days later i bought the Pre-Order box....I'm fully intending on playing the game once it goes live.  While I guess that I'm not supporting Marvel or DC or whatever other comic companies that are still around (dark horse and others) there was a period in my life from about age 6 to age 15 that comics were quite literally a way of life to me, i still have Tote after Tote FILLED with all my old favorites and from time to time (much to my wifes chagrin) I get them out and show my 2 year old daughter a few of my faves (I'm hoping she follows her fathers footsteps image) so I'm not really sure if that makes me a "true fan" or not, since i don't actually remain current but I can say one thing is for sure... All the heroes i grew up with will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart image

  • I've allways loved comics and the superhero cartoons. Once I got past highschool though I gave them all up, yet when I still draw I lean into the comic style and have youthful dreams of one day having my own comic.

Just with CoH (praying I get in monday) I don't know what I want I want to do despite the countless times I've made up my own little hero to doodle.

I am a true comic book fan, however it got way too expensive to keep buyin comics each week. Moreover, I want to play this game because I have played Marvel Super Heroes for over 15 years straight, non stop and I have an assload of original characters that I want to try out in this game. Whats gonna suck is figuring out which ones to use, and if some jackass takes my characters names before I get on. But thats the way it goes I guess.

Once upon a time I collected comics.  Old Superman, X-men, etc.  You know... the mainstream stuff.

However, my current occupation requires me to read books all the time, so I don't read comics a whole lot anymore.  When I do, I dodge "Superhero" books, and tend to purchase more anti-hero books (Frank Miller and the like).

So, I guess I've got one foot out the door of "True Fan," however, I have a few friends on the business side of the industry, so they are always trying to pull me back in.  Dicks.

I used to collect comics as a kid through my early teen years. My drawer is still filled with them. ::::02::

  • Deep down I think everyone is a fan of the comic book hero. As a kid I was obsessed about Batman, then when I collected it was Gen-13 and such. Now the problem I'm facing while waiting is what type of hero I want to be, the table has turned. image

    Trans, I feel your Pain.

Part of me wants to make like a funny hero, a la Bob Burden's Mystery Men comic (not the movie, ind you).  It would be such a clash... having a group of Dysfunctional superheros in a city that takes the professions seriously.  But, I degress.  image

I've been a comic fan since I was 8 years old.  Believe it or not, I still collect comics.  Becuz my financial pocket is not too deep, I only collect a couple of titles.  These mainly being X-Men and Conan.  I'm also a diehard fan of the original Marvel Roleplaying game, but I've only been playing off and on for the past 10 years.  I also hope I can implement some of characters in the game, as long as my names aren't taken (and that would sux).

City of Heroes is unique in that it's the first superhero genre MMO to come out.  There are others on the horizon, but I am most excited about this one.  Isn't it nice to relive your youth in comics ?  I think so image.

The only comics that I have been interested in even the slightest bit were SpiderMan and Batman.  That fantasy died out a long time ago... No longer a comic buff, have not been for years.

Much more of a fantasy fan myself... but being a hero in a MMORPG seems like a really cool and fresh idea to me.

I am not a die hard comic fan, though I still have a monthly subscription for Green Lantern and several DC Vertigo titles. I will pick up a Crow graphic novel from time to time as well. I think City of Heroes is a very cool idea for a mmorpg.
