Ok I borrowed my mother in laws laptop, needless to say the antivirus hasn't had an update since 2004, it didn't have a firewall, and Windows had never been updated.
I installed a new anti-virus program, updated windows and also installed Adaware SE.
There is some malicious script redirecting my web browser IE7 to another site. Adaware can't detect it and neither can the anti virus. I'm thinking it's buried somewhere in the registry. Can anyone recommend a GOOD free program to scan my registry and root this out? Any other suggestions are welcome.
edit--> Also why is my rank DROPPING, when I log into this site everyday?

You could try Spybot Search & Destroy, which I use outside of my anti-virus and Ad-Aware. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Also, perhaps try starting Windows in safe mode, then running your anti-virus and whatnot.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
good anti virus checker Avast free it has some spyware protection using on-access protection
Run Ad Aware on full system scan. This will get rid of many types of adware that piss you off.
Then run Spybot, this will get rid of all sorts of dataminers, key loggers, etc.
Then run ewido. This is probably the best one, and will find just about anything wrong with your computer.
I would then go into your program files and see if there are any suspicious looking .dll files in there, if there are ones that look like they might belong there.. well, leave them. Most virus's typically are put into the system32 folder, and unless you are really good at spotting them, don't even try looking through there.
Last, but not least, go into your add/remove programs, readjust it for "size" and look toward the bottom, if any programs say something like "easyadz" or something retarded like that, get rid of em. Oh, and also, a lot of virus'/trojans reside in your cookies, so clear private cache on your browser.
If that doesn't get rid of it.. well, I'm out of ideas.
Norton got 7000+ might have been 8000 before my dad immedietely turned off the pc and got me a new harddrive...had to reinstall my PC
Now I look at a very safe site...err...umm you dont want to know that do you
