You do realise that instancing has absolutely NOTHING to do with a monthly fee? Its a more efficient form of programming - Its like saying that a ford fiesta is cheaper than a hummer because the fiesta has a better miles per gallon ratio. 75% of the next gen games coming out from the west are using instancing so youre gonna have to address your phobia of it quickly. You GW haters wind me right up lol

Every one has thier own preferences with regards instancing and real world. There are good and bad points about both options which i won't go into but it is surely which will work better in the context of the game.
Of course if instancing makes it cheaper then that is no bad thing

GW is the only game I've played for months now. The last mmorpg that I tried was EVE and EQII, tried the trials of both and paid for a month of them, but then left. I wish GW had monthly fees though, I love getting little updates here and there, and having central forums hosted by the developer and such... Not sure if all MMORPGs do that though, maybe that is just how NC soft operates.
But yeah, keeping all combat areas instanced prevents server strain and lag issues. It allows games like guildwars to have collision detection too. I still assert that it cost less to run a smooth server that uses instancing than one that allows hundreds of people to be in the same spot doing complex interactions (combat) at the same time. It eliminates a lot of other issues too, related to clientside video performance. Like you said, it is more efficient.
Anyways, the point I was trying to make is that Dungeon Runners takes some elements from Guildwars and WoW... Although the elements it takes from Guildwars are more or less from Diablo II. In fact, Diablo II is probably the game that Dungeon Runners will most closely resemble. All 4 of these games share similiarities. I think the main similiarties we see are:
Instanced gaming structure: Diablo II / Guildwars
Graphics and UI: World of Warcraft
Huge Emphasis on Item Hunting: Most mmorpgs (including WoW/D2), but certainly not GW
Randomly generated dungeons: Diablo II
Hack and slash quick paced combat: Diablo II
I am assuming some things however, I dont think we really know exactly how quick paced the action will be, and I doubt it'll come close to that of Diablo II (which is just insanely quick paced), but probably faster than that of previous MMORPGs. Its also hard to say how big the emphasis on item hunting will be, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I dont expect this game to be the game for me however. In fact, the things I listed above are more or less the aspects of Diablo II, Guildwars, and World of Warcraft that I dont like much. The game could turn out successful however, its hard to say right now. I'm surprised we arent hearing more about it. It is quickly approaching release, and we've heard very little.
Oh dear, yet another abuser of the term Carebear, Immercenary. Nope, I don't like gank-fest MMOs, however I have come to appreciate the beauty of them, the ability to grief retards like you is something to relish; if I can't KoS people like you coz I'm not strong enough, well that's what KSing is all about ^^ If I *am* strong enough to KoS you and you have to call your pals out to fight back, hey I have nothing to prove, I'll log out till you're alone again. Yeppers, Griefing the Griefers, that's what PvP is all about, oh my dear how I love PvP
Oh, and um, I'll betcha ANYTHING that you will be the first one crying for Reform And Rules Change And Class Balance when you lose your toon in Perma-Death PvP, Immaturity (er, I got that wrong... ImmERCENARY lolol). Moron.
Edit: I can't resist. I just got back from the Fury website. At first I thought it might just be your kind o' game there, Immercenary. But, alas, I just read how loot works. You don't get to rob the players you kill. Oh well, I spose Fury is just too CAREBEAR for ya, pal.
Originally posted by edien Doubt anyone is going to come accross this post. But is it just me, or does this game almost exactly copy the WoW engine, from healthbar layout, the quick bar layout, to character screen select, to login menu and even graphics style. It kinda looks like someone took the WoW engine and just changed the models and textures around...
When I first saw this game, I though "Whoah is blizzard releasing another MMO?" until I saw it was done by NCSoft... Is there any particular reason for the similarities i'm noticing? Or am I just tripping?
I disagree that this game imitates WoW. I mean some similarities ssure but all mmo's that are based on fantasy have the same needs as far as skills bar / health bar / user interface bar / etc... so it almost has to imitata WoW to some degree
