I found out that you can delete characters, cuz you get a free slot and opening new slots is the only thing that increases your monthly fee. Here are some other questions...
1. Is it possible to share an account with someone who plays in their own house but create a character onto that account. I've read about how people usually set up three or so characters, one as their main and the two others as a 'mule' character for holding items or something like that. In order to mule items do you either hide the item and hope no one finds it when you're logging onto the mule, trust a friend to hold it for ya, or can they be on simultaneously?
2. Is it true that PC FFXI players can play on the same servers as PS2 players?
3. Is there PK in the game yet? Are they putting it in?
4. Do characters have customizable clothing (so everyone doesn't all look the same)?
5. You can mix character jobs in this game, such as Paladin + Ranger, so they use both of the abilities and equipment, right?
6. How big is the FFXI world right now? Could anyone estimate or perhaps give a rough comparison to a real life location? Around how large are individual cities, and how many are there? Are you able to enter building and caves and such? Do you have to load a new map when you enter these places?
7. Is the worldmap itself updated? Do they add new locations and areas with higher level MOBs?
8. Do MOBs react to one another as in Project Entropia? For example: would a larger predatorial MOB hunt on a small MOB and kill/eat them?
9. Is there voice chatting in this game?
10. Are summons treated as spells or do they come in as a controlled / npc fighter like in FFX?
11. What sort of things can you do with chocobos? Is there Racing, or Chocobo Hot and Cold?
12. Are there special events on the servers? Like for holidays 2x exp or gil, or a hunting event of some sort?
13. Are there any other forms of transportation other than chocobos? Can you pilot airships or something like that?
14. Are there special unique items or equipment like in Diablo 2? Or are they all pretty much the same? Can items be upgraded?
15. Are there ingame GMs or Administrators?
16. Do you get to choose your server?
17. Is this too many questions?
Hehe, sorry, I just wanna learn things since I can't seem to find any trial period or anything. ^_^
18. Are there any true role players in this game? Do you see people in the game acting like they're who they are ingame?

Yes, way too many questions dude. I'll answer as best as I can.
1) You have to log separately for each character. The good thing is that you can send up to 8 items to you "mule" characters, and each character can save up to 50 items in a safe and hold 30 items.
2) Yes.
3) No, but there is talk of including it in future patches.
4) No, but your clothing is based on the armour you wear, like other MMO's.
5) You can switch classes as many times as you want. You need to accomplish quests to unlock the elite classes. You can be 2 classes at once, where your subclass max level is equivalent to 1/2 your dominate class. This is unlocked by a quest at 18th level.
6) There are roughly 30 zones (not including cities). Each of the big cities are made up of 3-4 zones, while smaller villages are 1-2 zones. You can enter buildings and caves. And you only need to load a new map for caves.
7) There's only one world map, but dominion changes every 180 game days. You'll have to play to see this.
8) No.
9) No voice chatting.
10) Summoners have to "earn" or buy their summons, like spells. Summoners are an elite class, so they must be unlocked via a quest. Once you "call" your pet, he stays in-game for a certain amount of time or death.
11) Chocobos are a faster form of travelling. You have to accomplish a quest at 15th level to unlock them.
12) So far, there was a Halloween event across all servers in Beta. You had to find candy to give to ghosts, who in turn gave you Halloween items, such as armour and weapons. There hasn't been any special events lately.
13) You can teleport with white mages at level 30, or you can gain access to Airships. I believe you have to reach Rank 4 in your Kingdom to unlock the Airship.
14) There are unique items, but they are very rare. Items cannot be upgraded.
15) Yes.
16) Your server is random. The only way to play on a server with a friend is to have them buy a world pass for that server. Your friend has to be level 10 to purchase a world pass, and it's only good for 72 hours. Good luck on this one.

18) Roleplaying is a very rare event in FFXI. I've only met 1 roleplayer, and people made fun of her.
