Concerns

I have lots of concerns about this game. I'm looking for links, not opinions or tinfoil hat guesses.

What will be the purpose of endgame pvp? Will we be fighting for something? i.e. land control, or faction stat bonuses, etc.

If there is official info on this, can someone direct me to it?

My next concern is gonna make people go apeshit, but I have to know, so please just be open-minded, I am asking an honest question.

Affiliation with SOE. I know SOEs' current role in Vanguard, but is there anything official stating if POSSIBILY they will or will not sell out to SOE sometime in the future? I only want a yes or no answer with an official link to support your answer.

I think this game will hold my attention for at least 5 years. I'm hoping so anyways. I've tried more games this year than all of my years playing MMOs combined.

I want to pre-order so bad but everytime I think about pre-orders, I think about what happened with DnL. I know Sigil is a reputable company, but I still get wierd feelings.

Hold on, let me get you a link to the site where they officially announce whether or not they will sell out to SOE. Seriously, that request made no sense. Your other question was about PvP, and seeing as how they're testing PvP under the NDA right now, you can give up on trying to find an answer there.

There is a sticky with all the information you're looking for. You want links? Go there http://mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/95513 it is already a maintained sticky!

    Fixed!! image

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Thanks, I hadn't really attempted to create the link because work picked up bigtime and I had to go.

  • Ok, thanks for the sticky, somehow i missed it.

I found official answers to the Sigil/SOE question.

I'm still having a hard time finding one about the pvp question though. There's lots of links to scan through for the answer.

I'm going to keep looking but if anyone can link an answer to the pvp question, it would be awsome.

All I know is the CEO of Sigil games (creators of Vanguard) is a PvP freak.

Seen a video where they said a pvp server will be available at launch but the ruleset will evolve after release.

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Vanguard may not be the mmorpg for you.  There will be PvP servers, but as in EQ2, it is not a focus of the game.  PvP in EQ2 seems pointless to me, and I don't see a point for it in Vanguard yet, unless there is something I don't know.  I will definitely be following the development of the PvP ruleset as it comes along, but at release, I am not expecting it to have much depth.  Vanguard is primarily a PvE mmorpg as far as I can tell.  If you are looking for PvP for a purpose, mmos like Dark Age of Camelot & RF Online were the ones I found best.

SOE is involved.  You, and many others probably can only see this as a negative for Vanguard.  I don't.  Actually, I was very pleased about this.  Maybe Vanguard will start to turn peoples opinion of SOE around, maybe not, but it's your call whether you want to pass on all mmos that SOE is involved in, even when the developer is Sigil games, in this case . . . and even when SOE developers are many and spread across a few different mmos.  Not all devs that were involved in the destruction of SWG are going to get their hands on other mmos, if  that's what you're afraid of.

A problem that I see with Vanguard is that it is both a game for everybody and nobody.

Yes, I can see that, but if you read the FAQ at the official site, you can get the sense that Sigil has a focus and by that I can get an idea of what type of gameplay might be most at home in Vanguard.  Yes, they are making room for a variety of playstyles, PvP being one of them, but it has never been the main focus.

If I was a PvP, with that being my most important feature in a mmorpg, I would look elsewhere for a mmorpg, even though I can do some PvPing in Vanguard.

Vanguard has a lot, which can appeal to many different players, so I know what you mean.  However I think that also opens doors for players to criticize the game alot, too, which is what I see often.

If you take a mmorpg that tries to focus on just a few things and nails them, you'll likely hear less complaints.  Once you branch out to try and grab the attention of many types of gameplay and all sorts of players, they'll be gripes, because you just can find a mmorpg with everything that does it all right.

Since Sigil stated that they would be working on elaborating on their PvP ruleset after launch, then perhaps I was too quick to say that this game isn't for a player who likes PvP primarily, there is certainly plenty of other things in the game to like.
