 Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual holiday that marks the traditional birthdate of Jesus of Nazareth. Christmas combines the celebration of Jesus' birth with various other traditions and customs, many of which were influenced by ancient winter festivals such as Yule[1] and Saturnalia. Christmas traditions include the display of Nativity scenes and Christmas trees, the exchange of gifts and cards, and the arrival of Father Christmas (Santa Claus) on Christmas Eve. Popular Christmas themes include the promotion of goodwill, giving, compassion, and quality family time.

    Since the year and date of Christ's birth was not 12-25-0000 I figure this day technically has more to do with Santa than Christ. That being said, my family too celebrates it as the birth of christ, we just don't really make it a part of the "celebration". Christmas is more the celebration of family, peace, and goodwill.

    I hate it when people take offense to "Happy Holidays." There is a large chunk of the population that doesn't celebrate Christmas, and it gets the same point across.

    I got that far. But what I meant was, is this post some sort of protest against the name change from "merry christmas" to "happy holidays" and "holiday tree" and more stuff like that, or do you mean that people are forgetting the real meaning of christmas?

    You are aware that there are other cultures that don't follow our calendar?  I'm sure you are, just asking.



    I bet you're one of those people that are mad about the whole C.E. and B.C.E thing too, aren't you?  I love it each year when I get the predictable notes from the parent's of the kids I teach asking why the school their kid attends isn't using B.C. and A.D.  I just crack up each time.

    IMO it really doesn't matter why anyone celebrates Christmas or any other holiday during this time of year.  The most important aspect is that everyone enjoys this time of year, regardless of the reason.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all and I hope all of you, no matter what you are doing, have a good time!

    christmas, to me, revolves around goodwill, giving presents, getting presents, making kids happy, christmas trees, time with family (therefore A LOT of eggnog) and santa claus.  (notice there was no jesus in there)

    Just because a lot of people celebrate Christmas doesn't mean we should shun those that celebrate other holidays. I was in  DC for a few weeks visiting my sister and not one person said "Merry Christmas" to me. Everyone said Happy Holidays because a large portion of the population is Jewish. It just shows a lack of respect for other people's beliefs.

    Now that I'm back in Arkansas, it's a taboo thing to say Happy Holidays to someone. Quite sad.
