iPod Dilemma

MuraisMurais Member UncommonPosts: 1,118
Ok, so here is the deal. I bought an iPod Mini used for about $60 from a friend about 3 months ago. Aside from a few scratches on the screen, it is perfectly fine, and works great. It stores around 4GB, and I have only filled it it about a quarter of the way. I really love the thing, it fills every music need I ever had.

Now, for X-Mas, I got a nice shiny new iPod Nano. It is 2 GB, and it is pretty damned sharp looking. But, I really do not think I need it.

So the thing is, do I keep the nice shiny new iPod and kick my old one to the curb, or do I return the thing, take some spare cash I have, and buy myself a Wii? I am a bit conflicted because although the old one works well, it is showing its age, and I have had some battery problems with it recently (Although they have been very easily remedied with a little tinkering around).

So which route do I go?

You should be able to make up your mind without posting on a public forum.

Well Mac is infamous for the built-in obsoletion for their Ipod products. If it were any other Mp3 player I'd say return the new one and buy yourself a Wii, but if you really love your Ipod you might want to hold on to the new one, I am about 50% sure your old one will be a paper weight soon.

    Eternally mine,

I asked on a public forum because I was afraid of exactly what keebs said. I don't want to return it, have the old one crap out, and then be stuck completely without an mp3 player.

    Get rid of the nano.

I am without a doubt the clumsiest person I've ever met. Back in high school, I broke so many calculators you wouldn't believe. I've dropped laptops. I've broken television controllers.

However, I'm still using the same second generation color ipod as I've always had.

This past summer, I got a free brand-new ipod nano. Sure, its shiny and sleek and sexy. But it only holds 2 gigs. For someone who uses his ipod like an external harddrive, I could never see myself using an ipod nano. My old ipod works just fine and has for years, and it holds more memory than the nano.

If it wasn't free, I would have sold it back to the store.

As far as paperweights go... that's my nano's job.

Nanos suck.  I got one last year for Christmas, and in two months there were scratches all over it.  Also, for some reason, the battery life got shorter and shorter every charge cycle, until now it only lasts for about an hour and I have to spend forever recharging it.  Ipods in general suck, but Nanos are really crappy.  Sell the Nano and get a Wii.  If and when your Mini gets obsolete, get a Zune Player.

Allright, after a lot of deciding, I think I'm going to sell the Nano, and get myself a Wii. Thanks for posting here and letting me know the scoop. I like to get a little bit of info before I make a decision, and from most accounts, from here and from some personal friends of mine, Nanos suck, so therefore, the Wii is in.

         Thanks all.

iPods in general suck? I'd sure love to hear the reasoning behind that. And don't give me the "they always break," because no one I've ever met has had one break on them.

Yeah, get a Zune. No matter that you have to pay for the music that you put on it. You can't simply drag and drop mp3 files like with the iPod. Not to mention, with Microsoft's track record compared to Apple's, I'm sure you're paying for longevity and quality in both product and support.

I love the Xbox 360... but Microsoft, please stay out of the mp3 player business. The iPod is doing everything right.
