Paladins becoming better tanks?

I've been reading some forums at the official WoW site and it seems Paladins may have some more useful skills for tanking after the last big patch/update.  I've taken a break from WoW for over a month but my favorite class to play was my 60 paladin.  And I loved tanking in pug's and with some of my RL friends in small groups.  I'm sure warriors will always be better tanks for raids, but raids are not really my favorite style of gaming.  But I'm hoping pallies become even better tanks after BC.  That would get me more interesting in coming back to WoW after the BC expansion for sure.  Any thoughts about paladins (tankadins) and their effectiveness post BC?

Correct, the new talents allow for very effective paladin tanking with the correct gear.  While said gear is still lacking currently on live, it's something Blizzard is fixing in the expansion.

Wellllll, you do not have to wait and see some of this action when BC goes live...; past 2-4 days in PvP, the Pallys are now the *Best* tank in the game. Seen so many mentions in game from warriors that they are *getting frustrated* of not being able to deliver the DPS as they use too.  The Pally is taking/delivering the pwnage/ownage.

Locks still have the uberness of wiping you clean.

    Hunters are 3rd

i am a fire mage... so I can only write what I hear/see in so many chats & feel :)

Paladins are good tanks, yes. But against many tanks a good geared feral dr00d is still better. Paladins does sick dmg tho, but hunters do better (5k aimed, 3k multi ).

Thanks for the feedback.  Paladin has been my favorite online class for several years now.  Being able to tank and cast spells is an awsome duo for me.  But I think I'll wait until the expansion comes out.  I'll wanting to experience some new 5 man instances and zones to explore.   I have a feeling that lag and server crashes will be the norm for a week or more after BC comes out :).  Maybe waiting a week or so the expansion release won't be such a bad idea.

Class balance doesn't seem to be a factor anymore if I'm reading this right. I always assumed every role is filled the best by one class, and the other classes cannot even come close to that level.

With secure control of agro and the ability to take the damage that follows, Warriors in theory should be the best tanks. But now we have Paladins and Druids in the mix. Paladins, last time I checked, couldn't hold agro and their damage was one of the lowest in the game. Druids could pass Warriors in armor, but they lacked the abilities to be a more effective tank. However, it seems I was wrong to assume this.

Good job, Blizzard. It's easier to balance a game without Warriors, isn't it?

i dont know why warriors are complaining about their damage.

Pre-patch Number 1 DPS on patchwerk was warrior in my guild

Post-patch same warrior came number 3 DPS on patchwerk, beaten only by the 2 warlocks in the raid.

According to lore the paladins were the tanking class for the Alliance. Uther the Lightbringer and Arthas were all paladins. Horde had Grom Helscream he was a warrior... Thrall the Warchief is a shaman. They changed the paladin in beta because a number of the developers who designed the game left. They hired that asshole developer (that played a warrior in EQ) mess the paladin up further and it got worse.

They already have plans to nerf the pallies again... they reduced the damage once on crusader strike and are going to hit the pally with the bat one more time before BC.  Personally, I think they shouldn't - the damage is about where it should be now. If you played a paladin before the patch you rocked until lvl 45 where the damage increase stopped. Imagine if all the toons damage increase stopped at lvl 45... poor pallys. Paladins complained for ages on the forums but were ignored even when they presented data to Blizz detailing the problems.

The only reason paladins have damage now is because the Horde are getting them. I expect to see them buffing the paladins after BC when more of the Horde get to the higher levels. From the blue responses I've seen over the last TWO years regarding paladins... um... all 3 or 4.... they have no great plans for the paladin. They're the red-headed step-child.

I've seen plenty of posts where Horde players boast how they will show Alliance how the paladin is supposed to be used - but they are not getting the old paladin.

I think it's apparent they don't know what class balancing is. They don't need to worry about it because it's a PvE game not a PvP game - according to blue posts on their forums.
